I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. Who says it's too cold to fish? I went out today and it was 41 degrees, cloudy, and 20+ mph winds. I was the only one out there. I caught a 5 pounder.
I wish we had 41 degrees here....it was in the 20's today
@@MattStefanFishing You're welcome to come down here any time! When it hits freezing here, they literally close all the schools and businesses. You'd laugh. I thought it was funny, too, when I first moved down here. When I was growing up, we had only one snow day that I can remember. And that was because it snowed so much the power lines to the school snapped under the weight. I spent many below-zero mornings at the bus stop waiting for the bus to go to school.

Had a great day with the stunna several weeks ago. got my first double, and caught my pb trout with it! perch color! Multi species catcher for sure! Casts like a rocket! 🚀👍

I like using a medium light spinning rod jerkbait fishing. Seems to cast further and the lighter rod keeps me from overworking the lure on retrieves. Not to mention it makes for some seriously fun fishing when you're bringing one in.

Have you tried the IXI shad from megabass? It's an awesome little jerkbait, shorter faster body than V110's & dives around 12' & silent. I've been doing pretty good with those guys. I never hear anyone talking about them & most online stores don't carry them for some reason? It's something different than V110+1's I'm looking forward using them this winter. It's just now getting chilly at night down here in southern SC low 40's at night mid 60's during day. I'm from Cincinnati OH so my second winter down here. I don't miss the cold & love that I can kayak fishing 12 months out of the year!

i use the 30 size reel
I have always been terrible on setting hooks. But with fusion19 I don't have to have a good hook set, just lean into it av the fish and it sets just fine.

Man nice end to the season. May I ask what rod blank you're using, 1 or 2 power? Those are 1/2 oz lures but it looked like it works beautifully with the light line. All the best.
i use several blanks for the jerkbaits. SJ812, SJ813 and a st croix 6'6" premier spinning rod blank

That was epic! I've never had a day like that. That medium light rod really did well with that jerkbait. If you don't mind me asking, what MHX rod model is that? I'd like to have a rod like that and try fishing jerkbaits. Thanks for putting these videos out for us.
that was a st croix blank that i built. its a discontinued model unfortunatly. My other go to is the MHX Sj813 for jerkbaits

Well I just played the video again and it worked fine. Technology. Nice day with the jerkbait. I've fished jerkbaits for years but something has always been unsettling for me and that is I'm never satisfied to know when I have the bait at it's maximum depth.

How many time do you real it before you start jerking or do you jerk as soon as hits the water ?
i reel it a few handle cranks to dive the jerkbait deeper
The water was still 56 where I fished today In Massachusetts . It actually made the bite worse . 47 ideal for fall fishing cause it assure the lake has turned over completely .Today was 56 and the water was really mixed still . Stable weather is the key to fall and winter fishing and they bite better on cloudy windy days .

How many jerkbaits do you loose to toothy critters when running 6-8# fluoro? I’ve caught some nice pike on a cutter 90
I caught about 10 pike on this day and lost one jerkbait.
how far should a typical cast with a jerkbait go? i was throwing one on thin braid and an 8 foot rod and was getting no distance...put it down after a few casts.
Im casting 100 ft or more with my setup
8 lb. Mono- spinning. 10lb. Mono baitcasting...all u need...great casting distance...Sufix Elite, great jerkbait line

@@MattStefanFishing Thanks. I'm visiting my son at university in central Kansas and conditions right now are nearly identical to what you described. I'm here for two more weeks and don't know if the lakes we fish freeze over but am hoping to get some more fishing in before I go back to CA.
What # test would you recommend?

Why don’t they make a bluegill pattern? Berkeley lost the pond and small lakes market. A major corporation fail.
