This is a very attractive UP fef class model, I personally like the version of the fef with the "greyhound" style paint scheme & I hope to purchase one of these locomotives later on in the future, excellent product review- Tom.
The smoke doesn't look too bad when when it is running. Nice chuffing look. You could always turn off the smoke when coming to a stop. Beautiful locomotive. Congratulations.
Very nice Derek, now I see what those up passenger cars where for! You got the steambug now, look out lol! My little guy loves steam, he really liked this fef! Take care!
@@DGModelworks sure kept him entertained so I could eat my dinner and watch too! That's an impressive engine you got, looks great on the layout. Have a great day!
@@DGModelworks thank you for the sub. Videos are coming. I am getting supplies to do scenery. I'm new at this and you guys help with your videos thank you for sharing your work
Looks really nice pulling those UP cars. Also read the directions on turning off the smoke function. There may be a switch on the bottom the loco. I was told you can burn out the smoke device if not shut down correctly. FYI. Beautiful new device !!!!!!!
Very nice looking engine. Cool features. In the video it did look like the rear markers were on, may need to turn out the lights to see them. It seems like the there is a tube missing for the horn, you can see the extra smoke, it’s just not going where it should. Nicely done though, Congrats on your new steam.
If I get one of these, I would like to know the CVs to the whistle to change it to the one you have, as it resembles the sound of the 844 the most to me.
Does anybody know how prototypically accurate the pre-2013 (W/ Mars Light) #844 model is? Specifically the marker lights on the tender. I currently own the Athearn version and I'm thinking about picking up one of these but I'd rather not if it's less accurate.
Nice looking unit looks great pulling the UP passenger fleet. If you don't mind me asking what radius curves are by your diesel house? Im planning a layout as I have converted from N scale. Thanks!
Thats a 30" radius curve. My smallest on my layout is 24". If you are planning on running passenger cars like these, Go as big as you can. They barely make it around 24" and it's only because I have really good trackwork. Good luck on your new layout.
i have 2 BLI steam locomotives... i have a NYC j1e Hudson from back in the day and a paragon3 UP 4-6-6-4 challenger... under the cab there should be a switch to turn on and off the smoke unit also there a function for it. also there a CV to adjust the how much the smoke unit puts out. after about 3 minutes of running i found it made the room really smokey so i just choose to keep the smoke unit off on my Challenger. BLI kills it on there locomotives i have a total of 6 BLI locomotives 2 steam, rest are there diesels.
Just got #831 refurbished directly from BLI today and I am really impressed with it. My whistle does steam when toggling #1. Thanks for sharing.
That engine is awesome! Worth every penny!
There was a lot of smoke coming out of those stacks!
The perfect excursion train for the layout!
I agree! 100%

Need the big boy too lol. Great locomotive
Yes I do! LOL
Oh no your going to the dark side... awesome steam engine..thanks for sharing and keep up the great work..Lance
I'm liking the dark side! :)
This "HO" Scale does NOT have the BIG GAP between the ENGINE & and TENDER, which many of the "O" Scale models do. 👍🏼
Nice. Glad you got one.
For HO it looks Real Nice!! You should a lot of fun with it. Bob
Nice looking steamer Deryk, thanks for showing it run the layout and details on it ...
Thanks Ron!
That's a very nice model. And such an iconic prototype too. I'm not even from USA yet UP844 is very well known. Congrats on the purchase.
Thank you very much! Indeed it is!
That’s one awesome model Deryk, and then you showed it with the UP excursion coaches. Fantastic.
Many thanks! I am building my excursion fleet.

Great overview, and good call for your first steam!
Thanks my friend! I'm hooked now :)

Thank you Ian! I like that your son liked it too! I got the bug for sure, LOL

One good looking locomotive!
I think so too!

Right on brother!
I like the steamer. Looks awesome. Thanks for sharing.. David @low country railroad

Thanks! Yes there is a switch, I will most likely turn it off because I don't plan on running with smoke that often.
Awesome.
Nice looking unit. Super bad encounter with BLI and will never go back . Maybe just my bad luck. Hope you have a better time with them
Sorry to hear that. I hope so too

Found out they don't light on this model. That was the room lighting making it look that way.
What a beautiful steam locomotive DG! Are you going to have building kits for this locomotive to resupply on Coal and Water? Cheers Brian
I doubt it. It will just used for excursions only.
Nice! Hope your experience is better than mine with BLI sound issues....
I hope so too!
Nice. Not a fan of the smoke either. Great looking steamy!

Also with bli locos, some have different whistles depending on how you press the button or how many times you press it.
Thanks for the info!
As someone lucky enough to have seen the real 844 three or four times over the last ten years, welcome to the euphoria.
What a beautiful model! Can that giant get around an 18 inch curve?
I have not even tried to do an 18" curve with this.
great loco👍

🌑 Welcome to the dark side.
Some Mega-Steam smoke fluid will make that stack blast at speed.
Thanks! got a new bottle sitting here right now. :)

The back lights do not light up. I bought UP 843 last week.

Yep...the switch is there. I will most likely turn it off because I don't plan on running smoke that often.
Rear markers arent functional, this was a bit of a letdown since the challenger and big boy had it.
I learned that after watching your video. what a bummer
smoke is wesson oil equivalent turn it off. never will get it off your tracks.
I'm not a big fan of the smoke anyways. I won't be using it much, if at all.
