I was so biased as a Pentaholic. Came to love and enjoy Home Free and Voice Play. Stunning performance and reaction as always. Thank you. Greetings from South Africa
This is my favourite rendition of this song - the singing, harmonies & beatboxing are incomparable. Every time I watch it, I get chills. Thank you for playing it & your insights.
It is SO easy to forget Home Free is acapella. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is incomparable. I love how Home Free keeps a lot of their video environments simple--allows the focus to be on the message and their incredible acapella vocals. Just amazing harmonies❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest
You chanced to pick my favorite Christmas song by HF. Great reaction. You may wish to consider the brand-new release they have done about Mr. Grinch. It's hilarious. Tim is the lead on this song. I wonder why? 🤣🤣🤣
This is my favorite version of this song, and it is a song I've always loved. I enjoyed hearing your breakdown of the arrangement to help me understand why I like it best, although it probably comes down to the fact that it sung by my favorite voices.
As a French kid, this song is just unknown in my book, so this Home Free's version was my first time hearing it. It took me a little time to enjoy it, but i have to say that the Boys make it hard to not really love any of their songs/covers 😍 Thx Sir, perfect reaction as always 👍💖
You need to check out their collabs: Kenny Rogers, "Children Go Where I Send Thee"; Oakridge Boys, "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem"; &, Texas Hill, "Go Tell It on the Mountain". All are absolutely amazing!
I applaud you for attempting to beat box. It takes some courage, for sure. Those sounds doesn´t even sound human, Adam is so talented. Great analysis as always, thanks.
Tim was interviewed by Peter Barber about a year ago. Tim confessed that there are times that he's the one singing the highest notes in the background--especially when Austin is taking the lead.
@@SirHairless Thanks. In your intro you say you've only done 1 other reaction to this song and that it was with Pentatonix so I guess that confuses me. In any case, I'll look for it and watch. Thanks.
Your analysis is always "good filth"! Thanks for this one! We appreciate their talent even more after watching your videos. Not sure how many Christmas videos you can do this season, but I am dying to hear your analysis of Geoff Castellucci's "Carol of the Bells"! I've seen soooo many reaction videos, but NO ONE breaks it down like you do! So with great anticipation, I will keep checking youtube every day just in case you decide to react to it! 😉
It's remarkable how different this gorgeous song sounds with each arrangement and each combination of timbres. I'm very familiar with the Pentatonix and Voctave versions, but somehow I missed this one, until just now. Three very different takes, and I wouldn't even try to choose a favorite! I think I'll be rotating them for the next couple of weeks, as my calming "last song of the night" before I sleep. Thank you, Sir, for including that short clip! (With every band I have a "favorite" member; with Home Free, Rob's my man.)
If you want a non produced version of HF, try “Go rest high on that mountain”, try the Country Rebel church sessions. It sounds more like the real sounds of a church choir. No faked story line video. They are fantastic
Mark Lowery, who wrote this, stated that he finally couldn't think of anything more to ask😅 David Phelps has a version of this from his O Holy Night A Holiday Celebration concert that is beautifully done
Loved your reaction as always. Home Free’s rendition of Mary Did You Know is my favorite…the rhythms and harmonies are so interesting and beautiful. I also love Voctave’s version of this song. It’s stunning in a whole different way.
Would love to see you react to the guys newest release. "Your A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Also "Let Me Come Home" written by their newest member, Adam Bastien.
This is such an amazing and beautiful arrangement! I love the breakdown parts. They have released a few Christmas videos recently. I hope you react to a couple of them before Christmas. One is an original by Bastien. Tim, with Bastien’s permission who asked Home Free they would want to record it, to change some of the lyrics to appeal to a wider audience, and Bastien totally agreed. It’s called “Let Me Come Home For Christmas”. It’s a beautiful song.
I had not known this song before I heard this version. I had to ask a friend if this is what it usually sounded like. She was adamant that it was not. I love the harmonies and the deep boom in the background. I think it's Adam Rupp, but there are differing opinions on that. I'm surprised there isn't a live fan video because they do this in their Christmas shows. I've seen it live twice and it is just as amazing, although without so many layers, of course. Happy holidays!
I love Home Free's version, but my favorite ( HF comes in 2nd) is with Mark Lowery who, along with Buddy Greene, wrote this song. Mark is accompanied by David Phelps and Guy Penrod. Beautiful!
I think this version is the best version I’ve heard. I would never think beatboxing in this song would work but Adam is remarkable. Loved Chance’s bass and then Tim leading with Austin and Rob backing him up is stellar. Just love the arrangement. As always love your breakdown of the song. Home Free has released a new Christmas album and there are some new original songs in it. Let Me Come Home written by Adam Bastien and Greatest Gifts of All written by Tim are wonderful. They just released You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch that Tim sings….so much fun! Have a Happy Christmas SH!!!
You made me appreciate a song I didn’t like before. Thank you. If you want to hear a live version of HF. Try “Go rest high on that mountain”. Be sure to listen to the Church Sessions version, it was sung in a church with nice acoustics as I understand. Much better than the video.
Oh my, S.H., that was funny 😅.. Your reaction to Adam doing the "Jew's" or Jaw Harp sound.. 😂. I could listen to you react to music all day! I've learned quite a bit from you this past year, so Thank you for doing this!
I love their version of this. I'm not sure what it is about their arrangements (in general), but I ususally prefer theirs to most of the others, though I can appreciate other arrangements, too. They are only not my preferred version of the song. I hope it's not the only Home Free Christmas song you'll be reacting/analysing this season. Their last two releases (You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch and Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town) are fun and hilarious (Santa Claus is quite silly) and I love what they made of those two songs. Thanks for the reaction and analysis. I enjoyed it, as always.
This is my favorite rendition of this song!!! Thank you for reacting to it. Always enjoy your input and analysis. ❣ When they reach the crescendo it really tugs at my emotions emphasizing the authority of the birth of CHRIST CHILD (JESUS) and the significance and purpose of this birth. One wonders at the time of the birth through JESUS upbringing how Mary the mother felt, even though she was told by the angel of the signficance it would still be difficult to comprehend. Home Free tells the wonderment of it all very well with their interpretation of the song. 💟
Great to see you reacting to this one - there are so many lovely versions of this song. The first time I heard it was actually from Straight No Chaser, and from the Hound and the Fox, who have a beautiful piano-backed version. Also fascinating to see that old clip - there are various bits of old (pre-Sing-Off) Home Free around, and it's interesting to see how they've grown. (There's even a couple of songs with Adam Bastien from back in the day.)
This is very nearly my favorite Home Free song. At the least it sits in 2nd place. And that’s because I feel I can sing it the best of all the HF tunes I could attempt. I am just realizing that is due to Tim’s low parts being in a very comfortable place for my voice. I can also take his high lines, and the bass drop on “I am.” (Which I believe goes down to an E1.) But I am not able to cover Austin’s parts; they’re out of my range. Still, with the season in full swing, I find it fitting to keep this song at the ready for all Christmas hours to come. 🌌🌟🌌
I appreciate your reactions. I love Christmas songs especially ones that are about the savior Jesus. Home Free is so talented. Please do a reaction to David Phelps, "Mary did you know." He is one of the best vocalist out there. Thank you and God bless you!
This is just simply-Beautifully done 💕❄️‼️ Sir H, their latest is funny--But, TIM Is Amazing. “YOU’RE A MEAN ONE MR. GRINCH”. (It is the Perfect TIM SONG🙃). I have two Christmas songs that I don't think anybody will ask for. These are the two most favorite Christmas songs I have in my playlist. The first is by Greg Lake from Emerson Lake and Palmer call I Believe In Father Christmas. The second is by Jethro Tull and it just called The Christmas Song
I do love this song. Home free really does have a style that they have honed over the years. Speaking of the hairless gang, My grandson looks so much like you it's a little uncanny. He has alopecia universalis so you have better eyebrows. 😉
If you’re interested in the absolute best a cappella covers of this song, Peter Hollens’ solo cover will blow your mind. My favorite duet cover of “Mary, did you know” is by Tomi P featuring Casper Fox.
@@smallmoments957If you enter the Peter Hollens rabbit hole, please listen to his solo cover of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” Tomi P is an extreme bass singer with a 6+ octave range (which is on full display in his cover of “Hellfire.”) Geoff Castellucci just released the best cover of “Carol of the Bells” - simply a masterpiece. As much of a Home Free fan I am, my favorite version of this song is by the acapella group Voctave, featuring Mark Lowry, the writer of this song. It is otherworldly and Mark's passion & accentuation of the words emphasizes the meaning behind his song. A must view.
@@venetta-sh7su Thanks but I did see it when it came out. Forgot that I had seen it. My comment is generally meant for all readers of comments anyway.
Agreed. As much as enjoy HF and enjoyed their version of this song, Mark Lowery with Octave is my favorite a capella version. (I'll have to search for Lowery's original version.) There is just something about the passion and emotion of Lowery's singing that makes it top tier. HF did add some of that emotion, but it seems to be lacking in PTX's version (IMO).
Absolutely NOBODY sings this beautiful song as well as the writer Mark Lowry! Buddy Greene wrote the music. Mark puts the feelings and emotions into the song…..he feels the song, he doesn’t just sing it.

I really liked this version of a very beautiful song. I loved the deepness of Tim's voice and I think it brought such a different feeling to the overall song/performance. It was great. A couple of things I didn't care for as much were, as you mentioned, some of the sounds the beatboxer was making. Maybe they are in the beat boxer's book of sounds to make but I didn't like them in this performance at all. The other thing.. and maybe it's just his voice/style I don't know but I thought Austin sounded a bit nasal and I didn't care much for that. Overall, this was a very nice (but not my favorite) rendition of "Mary Did You Know?"
