About 35 years ago they used to make/market 10 AWG for 9s cooper speaker cable. It is about ¾” in diameter. I have been using them for that long and love their sound. Miscellaneous items include a small format PC (Core i5, 8GB of RAM & a 256GB internal storage. I also have a remote controlled line level switcher so I can run all my source components through the Lokius.

Showing my age, but Jack Benny introduced me to Flight of the Bumble Bee. Playing Zepplin albums for a guest, I put Wagner (The Fkying Dutchman) between albums and he liked it as it fit in. ELO did In The Hall of the Mountain King.

    Great stuff, Ed.
Of course, Electric Light Orchestra closed their 3rd album, On the Third Day, with an abbreviated "In the Hall of the Mountain King."
Duran Duran performed their take on "Danse Macabre" at a Halloween show in Las Vegas a couple of years ago, which is now available as a studio album.
And, one of my favorite albums of all time is Isao Tomita's electronic version of Holst's "The Planets". It's a system torture test (in a good way).
Just a few things off the top of my head.
    Cheers!

It was Holst, The Planets that got me into classical after being a teenager in the SF Bay Area during the early 80s with Exodus, Metallica, and others. Here are 3 other classical pieces I enjoy: 1) Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95 “Aus Der Neuen Welt”, first movement, Adagio 2) Ottorino Respighi: La boutique fantasque - Tarantella 3) Ottorino Respighi - Feste Romana: Circenses.

Same for me. Holst was the gateway. I actually traveled to Spillville Iowa where Dvořák wrote some of the 9th and got sit at the church organ he used as he composed. I am a fan of Dvořák. My favorite 9th is Fritz Reiner and the CSO from 1957. tidal.com/browse/album/34116405?u Let me know what you think. I like your other recommendations as well. thanks so much for viewing and sharing your story.

Battle Of The Atlantic Suite by Dave Roylance And Bob Galvin is a good one. Was lucky enough to perform (I was a kid in a children's choir in the 80s) Carl Orff's 'O Fortuna' under the direction of James Levine at Ravinia. Not bad for someone with a tin ear! For rock trivia, the piece (not the Ravinia performance) was also sampled heavily by KMFDM on the Naive album - but had to be changed due to unauthorized rights. Great selection, and really like this kind of video - absolutely in the hope to have someone who dismisses classical to actually listen and maybe find out they really like it.

Great suggestion. I love Ravinia. We used to go often before the kids came. It is a long trek from the western burbs. Haven't been in awhile. I am looking at the schedule for this season as I type this. Maybe I will find something interesting, Thanks again my friend.

Ennio Morricone, Henryk Gorecki... Yup! Thanks Ed, several I'm not familiar with, so your recommendations are genuinely welcome. May I suggest Wendy Carlos's composition "Theme From a Clockwork Orange" - one of the most threatening pieces of music I've heard!

@@OldGuyHifiOur 14’x18’ den is our home theater and main music listening room. It’s a 5.1.4 system and Maestro is a great example of Atmos done right. I can close my eyes and feel I was in that church surrounded by music. Gives me goosebumps every time I watch/hear it, particularly that 1:27:55 scene.

Thank you for this! I've had so many "discussions" with metal fans about this very subject. A lot of us are very open-minded people, but we can be a bit blinkered when it comes to our musical taste. I was the same when I was younger, strictly metal.🤘
Metallica were the band who opened my mind to several other genres, including classical. When I heard their version of Diamond Head's Am I Evil, I recognised the intro as Mars, Bringer of War. Later, when I read that Cliff Burton's intro to Damage, Inc. on Master Of Puppets was influenced by Bach's Come, Sweet Death, that was it, I was sold.
A few more pieces that I'd like to bring to your attention, if I may...
A sludge metal band called Toadliquor released a crushingly heavy version of Also Sprach Zarathustra on a compilation called The Hortator's Lament in the early 2000s.
Van Halen's Eruption, particularly the section that showcases Eddie's two-handed tapping technique, has strains of Bach's Toccata and Fugue.
A musician from New York called The Great Kat, a classically trained violinist, and graduate of the Juillard Institute, uses the techniques she learned on the violin to play the guitar. Her album Beethoven On Speed features her version of Flight of the Bumblebee. It's well worth a listen, if only for her version of Beethoven's Fifth, retitled Beethoven Mosh.

Edit: I didn't much care for this 'Berliner' version of Griegs Peer Gynt. Ze Zjermans, zhey play it too schnell and made a mess of the acceleration. Try the 2015 Metropolitan Philharmonic version, it stays together. Opinions, opinions: when they hurt put some lidocain salve on ithem.
