Personally i always put on the hose before the kilt. Less fabric obstructing my view. Then again i always dress standing up. 👍 Also, i always spin the sporran around so i dont have to close the clasp behind my back ( so it is almost on backwards until it is closed ). Just my little ”routine”. I love your videos.
Has someone from Scotland! That is the right way to get dressed. Start from the bottom and work your way up. This is also helpful for older / larger men has putting on your hose, flashes and shoes with a kilt on first is a bit harder and less comfortable.
USA Kilts I have just been through your video catalog. I too have the same questions as TNbackpacker. I Would like to see those video's, if ever you recorded them. I don't wear my kilt nearly enough, because I do not attend Formal events that often. But would love to be more casual, and wear it more often. lucky I have a 6 yard semi casual wool kilt, so dressing down should be easy.
I was wondering if you can make a video that can show casual formal and semi formal dress for Kilts what are ways gets me is do I have to wear a kilt hose can I wear my brown hiking boots just casually with regular socks
Rocky, you forgot one important point: When putting on your kilt, does the top of the kilt go over your belly button, under your belly button, or line up with your belly button? Newbies need to know... (no, I'm not, you sold me my last kilt).
typical Americans never do it right to dress when wearing a kilt first start with the hose ( socks ) then the flashes then the Ghillie Brouges first tie 1/2 knot then twist 3 times only not 5 or any other amounts after the brouges comes the Kilt then the Sporran then kilt pin only attached to the outer apron then vest and jacket and lastly Sgian Dubh worn in the right hose at the side with only the handle showing I know this because I am scottish and this is my traditional dress
It’s 4 twists and a LOOP around the back, not a 1/2 knot. Also, kilt pin 2 inches over from the fray on right side of the kilt and 4 inches up from the bottom. One other thing, wearing a vest AND a belt is a no-go. One or the other. Jacket & belt, no jacket w/belt, jacket w/ vest, just vest no belt.
did you wear the boxers to keep from showing the world the family goods... come on guys we all know you go commando under a kilt.;; I was shown first the Hose Flashes Shoes, then if you wear a tee or A shirt then the shirt then finally the Kilt no more no less;; due to moisture in the male region is one of the more important reasons I love to wear a kilt, keeps the goods nice and cool and no extra moisture building up and possible jock itch
No no no! How much have you creased the kilt and shirt putting them on first! Socks, flashes, sgian dubh and shoes first! Then shirt and then kilt. Kilt pin on the kilt before you put it on. Then you don't need to be bending over and creasing everything up.
+USA Kilts get each to their own. My problem is I hate ironing, I'm ex military and a bit OCD so I hate leaving the house with any creases! Even though as soon as you get in a car you get creased up lol. Stupid really, I just need to know it was right when I left! Love this videos by the way!
@@lordcarruthers Scottish and Highland infantry units in Canada have strong traditions that were presumably inherited from the Auld Country. Hose on first always. Underwear never! (Exceptions for those engaged in Highland sports, where track shorts are the norm and no sporran is worn.)
@@blacksmith67 Hi. You are perfectly right about these traditions, and Underwear is only worn for certain occasions. My uncle never wore a pair of trousers or underpants in his life. Born in a kilt and died in a kilt.
Having the transcript is a GREAT addition. I wish more UA-cam how-to's would do so.

Good thought, js TNbackpacker! When we do our next video series (probably not for a few months at least), we'll make one for that topic!

Would it be similar if was wearing a great kilt?

How about with a pipers plaid? I've always liked that look.

@@richmcnab8925 you are right. the "proper" way to put on the kilt is the order you said.
I am from Scotland and the hose and shoes definitely go on BEFORE the kilt

Next how to put on trousers?
Though the way I wear my kilt as casual wear will horrify the purists on this channel
Underwear? Absolutely not. :-)
Not taking kilt advice from a yank
Especially not one that wears a belt with a waistcoat!
