I watched Divergent because it was on TV one day
I read the whole entire Divergent series two years ago. I absolutely LOVE it. And I still freaking do. I'm obsessed. A friend recommended this channel and I live your enthusiasm! I can't wait to watch more of your vids.

As far as Tris' reactions to boys and starting a relationship goes, I feel like I can really relate to her. I grew up in Christian home and like most kids my first influence to how relationships work were my parents. Like Tris my parents never really acted like a couple in front of me so when I finally got into relationship it was hard for me to figure out how I was supposed to act. So while to some people it might seem strange that it took so long for Tris and Tobias' relationship to develop, I can completely relate. They both grew up in an environment where displays of affection weren't common, in someways even discouraged.

Ah, God. I read the book in one day and I'm freaking out. I am in love with Tris. I love how she wasn't instantly good at everything but she wasn't a wimp and she managed to prove everyone wrong. I also Four/Tobias but I wish that after he got involved with Tris, he didn't seem so vulnerable. WILL. WILL. WILL. I cried for him and Beatrice's mother. Also, did you mention Uriah? I loved him so much. The ending broke my heart though. She lost both her parents. I can't wait till I buy the second book.

My worst would probably be erudite. I'm smart and I want to be a doctor when I grow up, but if I had to choose a faction I wouldn't want to discover stuff my whole life. Amity I view myself as a nice person so I'd fit there, abnegation I think I'm pretty selfless too like sometimes I'm holding the door open and I don't even realize what I'm doing its just natural. Candor I'm pretty honest most of the time. Dauntless I'm pretty brave like I'd do anything to protect my loved ones. So I dunno where id go
Erudite: Yeah no, I would fail every test they give me
Amity: Definitely not. Too nice for me
Abnegation: No, I'm too selfish
Candor: Maybe, because my friends say I tell the truth too much and that I'm really blunt
Dauntless: Maybe, because I train a lot with my two brothers that are in the Army. I also learned how to shoot and throw knives at a young age. I do a lot of running like cross country and track/field and I actually enjoy fighting and athletic things.
So overall I'd probably choose Dauntless.

I would actually pick Candor, Im very honest, maybe not as much as it is described in the book, because of course i have lied but for the most part I'm very very honest and also i truly hate when people lie to my face, i usually can tell when they're lying.
I watched this video like way over a year ago, and I wasn't even subscribed to you, but because of how crazy you were about the book I went, purchased it, read it, fell in lovvve, then held myself. I was planning to reread Divergent when book 3 comes out, and it did and I did, and now I'm waiting for exams to end so I can enjoy Insurgent and Allegiant, and I'm finally watching this again and commenting and subscribing!!!!! You basically described all the rollercoaster feelings I had when I was reading the book, seriously, even if this is my second time reading it, hands down, book of the year!!
It's pronounced "bee ahh tris" Beatrice. Statistically speaking about 35% percent of people say that name wrong. Sorry my Erudite side keeps kicking in.
Haven't read the book yet but I saw the movie, it was pretty good, it has a more interesting story than Hunger Games and Maze Runner.

Honestly I figured out Four was Tobias and Marcus' son when she first met him because she described him as having dark blue eyes, and literally just a chapter or two before she described Marcus as having the same dark blue eyes so I connected it immediately since she mentioned his son in the beginning so it wasn't a big reveal to me

2 years ago this review made me want to read divergent. so i went on amazon and ordered the book and i read it and absolutely loved it. then i recommended it to my reader friend and she also loved it. now, 2 years later when the movie is due to come out in a few months, all of our group of friends is reading the book and is becoming obsessed with this series so i just wanted to thank you christine for telling me about this book!! (I'm glad I'm one of the original fans unlike people who are just reading it because its going to be a movie. NOT that thats a bad thing people!)

I have got the boxset today I loved the movie back in April I have just got hooked with in the first few chapters. I am now on chapter 5 going to be reading more tomorrow I also got it with kids covers instead of the adult cover. Plus I am looking forward to the insurgent movie next year

My coworker suggested this book to me a couple days ago. I just finished it and am now looking at what other people thought of it.
My opinion:
The story had it's good moments, such as the description about keeping enemies close though the people she loves are dead. However, a lot of it was goofy and repetitive. I enjoy shooting, and to me it seemed funny every time I had to read "clicked a bullet into the chamber," or that one line about "hit him with the heel of the gun."
For a book that's clearly targeted for the young teen female audience, I'm actually amazed at how much death is strewn within this. There were many instances where I felt the thrill of some of the things here since I've experienced some of them, like jumping off buildings and climbing really tall things that weren't meant to be climbed; so that I would give it a plus. The romance was very descriptive, and by descriptive, it was kinda like going to an Internet forum and seeing two people cyber role playing.
This whole idea that society is split into factions by ideology- I think we have a much better chance of making communism work before something like this ever formed. But playing with the idea of "what if" and contemplating what would happen if it were that way, I can see how it would provide for an interesting plot. Truly though, the way it happened seemed way to simplistic. Serums and simulations, I could easily see this similar to a B-Rated Sci fi film.
Overall, this book felt like I was reading a telenovela with the hint of hairy potter-esque rivalry.

I relate so so so so strongly to Tris.. I never really saw my parents as a couple and I’m always playing that over in my head if a guy/girl likes me.. I’m like okay? But do you REALLY like me? Probably my insecurities like Tris has a lot of. I think she’s probably beautiful but she doesn’t think she is. Because when she was like “I’m not pretty” and Tobias laughed I think that was meant to tell us that she is pretty. ANYWAYS. Shailene is beautiful and makes the perfect Tris.
Is it strange that I'm a guy and Divergent is my all time favourite book? Because when I type in "Divergent Book Review" 99.9% of people reviewing this book are women. No problem with that, just a bit head scratching in my opinion

My copy of the book came with a faction quiz. It has seven questions. I scored two points in Abnegation and Amity and one point in Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite.
:0 My results were inconclusive.
Based on what I believe about war, I'd say Amity is the faction that started out right. Basically, it stands for world peace. Peace and war can't really coincide.
Candor is probably the least peaceful faction. The truth hurts. Sometimes hurt people take out their feelings on other people.
But I'd probably choose Candor. Living without secrecy sounds dangerous, but also inviting and mysterious. No secrets or lies means no worrying--- Tris wouldn't have had to worry about Four or Al. They would have told her straight up how they felt about her. Of course, she would've blabbed about being Divergent (Is that supposed to be capitalized or not?) and gotten herself killed before she met either of them...
I could choose Abnegation, but it would be so hard to adjust to. Am I a transfer or Abnegation-born? I can totally live off chicken for the rest of my life, but I'm not a big fan of peas or bread. Plus, I just talked about myself for the last four paragraphs and a sentence. I could never survive there.
I'd be probably factionless😂 But Amity is a cute faction
I would totally chose dauntless not only am I adrenaline druggie and work best under pressure. I believe in justice over peace, fighting for what's right and protecting/standing up for others if only Eric wasn't one of the leader and the fact that you have to hurt others for no reason.

I feel like I'm the only person who would like to be Candor. There's something refreshing about the fact of never having people lie to you. And there wouldn't be any misunderstandings and you could just say what's on your mind without hurting anyones feelings.
I have to disagree with you.... The quality of the writing in this book is okay, but it goes downhill. I don't think its that memorable and it cannot compete with the hunger games. Just my two cents.

Hunger Games has more emotional depth and looks into the tribulations of a dystopia and of war. This book is fine. Not as psychological as I like, which is was Katniss gave me along with some complex themes and motifs to work with:

So many mispronounced words... oh my GOD! It's like you've never had an intelligent conversation with another intelligent person in your life... actually... maybe you haven't.
Anyway, Beatrice is pronounced "Bee-uh-triss", chasm is pronounced "cazzum", abnegation is pronounced "ab-nuh-gay-shun", and erudite is pronounced "air-ee-uh-dite".
In order to be a commander of Dauntless, you have to have all of the virtues, but I don't think Dauntless have to be smart or selfless or candor, or amity. All that it takes to run at your enemies with guns blazing is bravery... or stupidity... depending how you look at it. That is what Dauntless is.
The one faction that would require all of the virtues is candor. In order to tell the truth, you have to know the truth (erudite), tell the truth even when others would hate you for it (bravery), be truthful about your own significance in relation to others (abnegation), and if everybody would seek truth in all things then there would be no conflict between individuals - only between ideas (amity).
That being said, I would definitely join candor.

At the end of the book in the special edition, there is a test where you can find out which faction you would be in. I tested Divergent because I'm that freaking awesome. But if I had to choose i'd be Amity only because I don't think I'd survive the initiation for Dauntless. My best friend's reading the 1st book now and she tested Erudite.

I'd choose Dauntless, because I'm not selfless, honest, peaceful, nor smart. Id fit in dauntless the best because I'm big on watching out for everyone, and yeah I'd honestly be brave if I needed too and I do love adrenaline rushes
This book was amazing I got catched on since the first chapter, I just couldn't stop reading it, I still remember when I was all night awake reading it and screaming because of all the emitions, I simply loved it.
Did we read different Divergents? In my book when she was on the ferris wheel Four turned the handle to rotate the wheel so she was on the ground...

Oh and during the final test, during the fear landscape, I was so scared for Tris. I forgot that everyone was aware that they were in a simulation. So, when Tris kept doing and saying stuff that pretty much exposed her of being DIvergent - I was literally pausing and yelling at her - every 5 seconds.
i was so mad when they did not put this part in the book. Tris; Peter would throw a party if i stopped breathing. tobias/four i would only come if there was cake. and omg another peeta moment ahh i just realized that
This is exactly how I felt after finishing both books! In fact, I still feel like it and I can't find a better book than this. I can't wait till the third one comes out, I will completely break down in happy tears :)
It was mentioned in the book that even when the Dauntless soldiers were shoot, they won't feel it since they are being controlled. So, even if Tris shot Will in his leg, Will will still go after / chase her. :-)
One of my favorite parts was right after Tris shoots Peter in the arm and Tris is like "Get up Peter" and her brother, Caleb, is like "You want him to walk? Are you INSANE?" and Tris is just like "Did I shoot him in the LEG? No. He walks!"

I took the bonus test at the end of the book and I choose 6/7 Ds. I only chose one C. In my mind I'd probably be originally from Candor and transferred over to Dauntless.
