    The Spherical Wavetable Navigator (SWN) is a six-channel synthesizer that makes it easy to create slowly morphing drones, polyphonic melodies, evolving sequences, and rich textures.
    The SWN features six wavetable oscillators with independent pitch, level, and waveform controls. Six LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) can be used as modulation sources and/or envelopes, making it easy to add dynamic motion to your patch. Each channel is a full voice and can be played using the top row of buttons, the internal LFOs, or note-change detection on the 1V/oct jacks. The SWN ships with 12 three-dimensional (spherical) wavetables and an easy interface that allows you to record and edit custom wavetables from live audio. Open-source software for Mac, Windows, and Linux called SphereEdit can be freely downloaded and allows you to use your computer to create, edit, and convert .wav files into Spherical wavetables to transfer into the SWN with an audio cable.

    Such a great machine, I love that you also get 6 ‘free’ lfos for modulating other synths or itself . It’s very undervalued on reverb/eBay imho but who am I to complain when I managed to buy one for nearly half rrp. There is a fair bit of learning to get it down but it’s worth the effort.

    While this module can do a lot (wavetable, lfo, quantizer, envelope). After taking it for a test run I felt that it did a lot of things pretty well but not one particular feature stood out for me, I was pretty relieved that I didn't have to commit to buying/keeping it. Recently I got the ensemble oscillator.... and well me old chappie...that's something that is next level.

    Next firmware update is supposed to add longer gate detection with in CV/GATE mode so you can define length of envelopes by gate length and essentially make all 6 oscillators playable polyphonically with different note lengths.

    • @edgarm6017
      @edgarm6017 3 роки тому +2

      It is, it just takes practice sometimes. I cane across a modular system in a trade, and i mostly learned by Doing. When watching videos, it’s easy to get discouraged with the amount of vocabulary/connections being used, but modular can be for everyone!

    • @zaneaustin22
      @zaneaustin22 3 роки тому +2

      Dude it’s pretty easy, I was actually turned off from modular for years (I have little synthesizer experience still) but I decided to take the plunge and the fact that every patch is different and that you mostly experiment when patching it becomes a natural flow. Just randomly trying things and then remembering things you’ve done in the past and seen online to put in your tool box

    • @zaneaustin22
      @zaneaustin22 3 роки тому +1

      Edgar M.P. True, honestly the only barrier really is the technical language, whenever I explain stuff about modular to my friends I always say the word along with a normal synonym in parentheses, like sound generator vs oscillator

    • @jjrusy7438
      @jjrusy7438 3 роки тому

      @@zaneaustin22 Bless you all for being encouraging and helpful. Don't assume it's the language tho. I'm an EE from the control electronics world so the concepts are all familiar. then add in that i'm a synth nerd so i even understand the context. i got rid of my first synth, a used vintage arp odyssey, because i got sick of patching it, and it only had sliders and switches. since then i only have purchased synths that can store patches, or ROMplers, which are just preset libraries. The greatest thing to me since sliced bread, is affordable digital control of analog, so i can finally save analog patches, not just digital. i'm also freaked out at something intricately wired with actual wires that is a HUGE mess to clean up or make a major sound design change. to me, modules like the deepmind12d, microfreak or dreadbox typhon(my next synth), are where it is at. everything i have is controllable from a master keyboard and patch changes are quick. Plus after i spend an hour tweaking a patch to perfection, i want to save my work. I love the sound of like the moog system55 but seeing one is almost a panic attack when i ponder actually patching it. So i really dont believe i have the correct mindset for modular, but the lights are the best in all of synth world and i watch modular videos for the knowledge...and the lights haha.
      ps. the part i really like about modular is the ad-lib sound creation as the rig is tweaked in a live performance. this is like my performance mode using my soundset. scary but exciting and no one knows what is coming next. example: ambient audio painting of an alien rainstorm done live, 1 take 1 track...i hope i dont choke heh ua-cam.com/video/RD8aSIW-cdQ/v-deo.html

I've playing with the idea of getting one (or the 8hp beehive, though this will limit other areas) and this size will allow me to fit my dream stuff in my case. I tried the new feature of recording one waveform at the time, but I didn't understand how many I had already recorded (you can browser via colour but it doesn't really clearly show that you have X recording slots left). Have you tried that yet?
    PS: since you are asking for workflows: Mine are very different. On the one hand I like to use it as you did, just by selfpatching and running it through a Moonphase stereo filter, and letting it createt its own LFO-VCA rhythm, OR I have it STUFFED with cables coming from my Hermod and I try to record actual melodies that are longer than 6 steps into the Hermod with 6 voices.
