Matt, I worked at Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston, SC for 12 years. It's pronounced "oblisk". It is 2 syllables "ah" and "blisk". Hope that helps. By the way, I am a 66 year old recent cancer survivor and in the middle of starting a new business.......woodworking!!! Because of YOU. Thanks so much

It is 3 syllables: ˈä-bə-ˌlisk (hard to see there, but the accent is on the first syllable). Easy enough to find on Merriam-Webster, there's even a "listen" button.

I like this one, So I had a couple of thoughts, First, hinges, use hinges to hold the panels together, set the hinges is such a way that the panels accordion fold, second thought, fasteners something simple like eye hook and latches. To make it easier to set up and take down. Thanks for all your great ideas. You're an inspiration to many of us. Peace

When I first saw the thumbnail I thought WOW nice pyramidal.
What is the pyramid shape? A pyramid is a three dimensional geometric shape (3D shape) made up of flat faces: a base and triangular faces which meet at a point called the apex. Three main features of pyramids are, faces, vertices and edges: Face - a closed, flat surface.
But it's also a pyramidal obelisk.
Just another name for the same thing.
Just a thought enjoying your channels.

@MatthewPeechWoodworking, good morning. This is an awesome garden trellis. I will be making this one, but first, I have to finish the 3 planters 2 benches project. I am very slow and uncommitted... no I have a very busy life (including a lot of family time) so I work in small periods of time, but I enjoy taking my time. For me woodworking used to be "me time", but now is relax time with my wonderful wife as she got hooked on it now..

If you're going to be making a lot of these at one go, I'd suggest using double sided tape and scrap wood to align the three boards to start. That'll help keep things aligned as you work, and make setting them up go more quickly.

  • @skipanardoross6805
    @skipanardoross6805 8 місяців тому

My plan is to build this today. I have built the 3 picket planter and the squirrel picnic table feeder so far. I didn't include any variations...on purpose, anyway lol. I learned something about myself with the two builds. Like a great many others, I don't typically build with detailed plans. So, with the two builds mentioned above, I built by watching the videos and taking fairly detailed notes. The projects turned out pretty close to what they should look like but it was after assembly on the picnic table that I realized I hadn't sanded the saw marks out of the edges. That's not a step I would have forgotten with my own builds and I'm not exactly sure why it happened in this case. It feels pretty foolish to think it was because, "well, it wasn't in the tutorial" but that's what it feels like. I guess this is just a head's up to any other knuckleheads like me out there to keep in mind that basic woodworking steps are still required when building from plans. It's like following a recipe and not removing eggs from the shell; "well, the recipe just said to add two eggs" lol. It's nothing new, really, I could probably do a long video serious based only on my "duh" moments in woodworking.

I know some people build it from these videos. Just wondering which it was. Keep up the great work! Though it could have been the camera angle. I just went back and saw you did the same on the first measurement. And it was about an inch off. So, very well could have been perspective :D

This may have been addressed already but in Matthew's video description he states that the bottom boards are cut at a 40 degree angle. Unless I am doing something completely wrong, I found the best fit angle to be 9 degrees (please don't take this as absolute. Do a test cut to make sure). I don't think I'm totally wrong because it's easy to see the angles shown in the video are much shallower than 40 degrees. Again, though, I may be wrong altogether so you'll want to make sure for yourself but I would recommend not mitering the bottom boards until you get to assembly. If anyone knows better, please let me know. I imagine there's a way to take down my comment.

In all you videos I see a Pneumatic Nail gun. Have you considered a Cordless/Battery nail gun and what brand would you use? 18 gage?

Not trying to be a pretentious grammar nazi, but the emphasis is on the first syllable (AH-be-lisk). That being said, great build! I'm already thinking about how to build a couple of these for our backyard out here in Colorado!

Thank you. I used to refer to the parts by A, B etc in the videos and didn’t say the lengths. I stopped putting the cut list in the description a while ago due to requests to just say it aloud rather than referring to them as the part letter.

Hey Matt… I’m in the process of building this right now and I think maybe there may be a mistake for either the measurements of the support boards or wedge support boards go to which frame boards. I say this because when I got to the assembly part I started with assembling the 2 inch frames and I used the 18 13/16 support board like you said, and that framed up beautifully and then when I started to frame up the 2 1/2 inch frame things were not lining up and I thought maybe I cut some thing at a wrong angle or maybe I sanded my edges on my angle on my frame pieces badly (which come to think of it. I don’t know why the hell I sanded the edges right there that doesn’t make sense lol) or some thing, but I checked everything and everything was correct so what I did was it I cut the 19 13/16 piece down to 18 13/16 thinking that maybe you miss spoke and matched the two wrong and so I tried fitting that up and it still did not fit up correctly so then, since in my mind, the most logical thing would be Firm the longer support board to go with the wider frame. It would make more sense for the support board for the 2 1/2 inch frame to be 1 inch longer than the support board for the 2 inch frame. However, since in this scenario that would not be possible and I had already glued everything up and I had to go to an appointment and then come back so it was already set there was no taking it apart the only option I had was to do 1 inch less and when I did that which made the support board measurement come out to 17 13/16 that did fit up well. However, when I say well, I don’t mean excellent both a 2 inch and a 2 1/2 inch frames when I was lining them up with the end of my square surface were slightly off angle, and I am assuming that this is because of not being matched with the correct length of support board. I hope this is all making sense, and I hope that you can provide me with some clarification. I know it’s been a while since you posted this video so I don’t even know if you’ll see this if anyone knows how to get Matt to see this I’d greatly appreciate it if you could help a girl out.😊 I am just starting to make the fourth frame so I don’t know if they’re all gonna fit together yet or not I am praying that they do because if not, I just wasted a shit ton of time and will have to go buy more materials but I guess in the end I will end up with two of these things rather than just one which that’s fine with me just wasn’t in the plans, but hey, that’s life lol

I think I might be having some of the same problems. My main issue is after putting the brace in at the bottom of the frame the meters at the peak of the frame never quite match nicely with the center slat support. I'm almost done building my second one of these and the same problems have happened both times. I think I'll have to do some testing on the next one.

@@kolestuck5434 ya something is defined not right. Mine did end up coming all together it’s a rectangle instead of a square but honestly you can hardly tell. But ya I think Matt definitely accidentally mis-stated something in the video because things don’t line up. I wish I could afford to purchase the plans I’d be curious to see if they line up with the video

@@timcurtin36ya I cut them at 10 degrees not 40. it doesn’t work out. For the bottom boards I ended up using a measurement of 17 13/16” for the 2 1/2” side and 18 13/16 for the 2” side
