The band listened to the shipping forecast while they were touring America because it reminded them of home, and the tour was hell for them; constant fighting and drunkness on the stage. After this tour was when they got the idea of britpop.

i love Damon's tired, humbled look at the very end of the song... Like he's a bit overwhelmed by it all, but in a happy way, that he and the others have created something as beautiful as 'This is a low.' And quite right, too. It's one of the most gorgeous rock songs ever.

just watched their 2009 performance of this song then this video and got really emotional. they look so overwhelmed here like it's just crashing in what's really about to happen. in 2009 damon cries before this song like he can't believe how lucky he is that he gets to come together with them again after 9 years of the band being apart, and he hides his face during graham's solo. it's all so messy and emotional. it's heartbreaking in the best sense to see how much he treasures seeing his friends making beautiful music by his side. also it's so crazy how music makes us feel so skinless in the very same way even though we don't know each other.
