- The O'Neill dynasty (Irish: Ó Néill) are a lineage of Irish Gaelic origin that held prominent positions and titles in Ireland and elsewhere. As kings of Cenél nEógain, they were historically one of the most prominent family of the Northern Uí Néill, along with the O'Donnell dynasty. Some O'Neills state that their ancestors were kings of Ailech during the Early Middle Ages, as descendants of Niall of the Nine Hostages.
Two of their progenitors were High Kings of Ireland: Niall Glúndub (from whom they take their name) and Domnall ua Néill. From 1232 until 1616, the O'Neills were sovereign kings of Tír Eógain, holding territories in the north of Ireland in the province of Ulster, particularly around modern County Tyrone, County Londonderry and County Antrim, in what is now Northern Ireland. After their territory was merged with the Kingdom of Ireland and the land was caught up in the Plantation of Ulster, they were involved in a number of events, such as Tyrone's Rebellion, the Flight of the Earls, the Irish Rebellion of 1641 and the Irish Confederate Wars.
They are literally the Irish royal family
Very true. O'Neil medieval history is amazing.
MCDONAGH IS NUMBER ONE
I'm a Queen in America, descendant of Corrybrough McQueens of Inverness of the McIntosh/Clan Chattan area. Apparently the McQueens were really descendants of a McSweeney family that were a O'Neill branch through Suibhne the Red. If the legends can be believed i can trace the McSweeneys to the O'Neills all the way to Nial of the 9 Hostages and Conn of 100 Battles, even further all the way to Heremom one of the settlers of Ireland and so on forth its absolutely mind blowing!
You are Hebrew if from heremon.he was direct dependant of zarah.twin to pharez.desendant of our saviour.zarah began Troy and rome.then went to iberia.spain.(zaragotha named after him)finally settled in Northern ireland.if u have a red hand on flag.you are not only irish royalty. also from judah.zarahs father.son of jacob.we all know him.

I'm very happy to find your channel. Like many Australians, my family has Irish ancestors. Ive read that much of the Irish historical records were destroyed by fire and therefore genealogies are hard to trace.

The O’Neils are connected to my mums side the McNeilly’s, I’m not sure about my father’s side even though they were both from the North from Derry . My great grandmother was married to a David Moore A lot of my family wouldn’t talk to me about my family ancestry some even went out of their way for me not to find out about my family
That's very odd of them. Still it's amazing and interesting link to have.
@@IrishMedievalHistory let’s just say I have some that share what they have or know and I have some that have and will make out they don’t know anything. I have some that don’t know anything and I have some that wishes I didn’t start my family tree
