I personally have do me this to sofa that have been over 50yrs old and had them looking almost new .. regards to the comments about the finish , this is exactly how the finish should appear as antique leather generally reveals base colour over its lifetime giving it a unique character/patina ..

    After reading all the comments I Googled vintage Chesterfield chairs. Though the color is not my "cup of tea" it's right on the money. The color is oxblood, not red. I can picture the chair in a library with a fireplace, silver tray with crystal decanters & glasses. Just like the old black & white movies. 🎥🎞📽. Beautiful job.

    • @221b-Maker-Street
      @221b-Maker-Street 7 місяців тому

      To some extent I agree, although a _genuine_ Oxblood Chesterfield doesn't have such heavy-handed slathering of faux black patina.
      The colour shift should be *subtle,* not spraying black stripes on a red chair - more a deeper shade of Oxblood, emphasising the deep button work and mimicking the organic gradual build up of patina over decades from the naturally-occurring oils in our skin. The thing about quality antique furniture is that it never _tries too hard_ - like a stylish person, it's just effortlessly elegant. My (possibly unpopular!) opinion is that faux patina laid on with a trowel just reeks of cheap tackiness.

    Why is everyone complaining about the restoration the restored it to how that model of chair originally looks. Its only after years of wear that it turns that shade of red, they didn't do it in their own idea or a redecoration but exactly how the chair originally looked aka a restoration.

  • @chinadollsyndrome

    To everybody mad about the result: The black pigment looks overwhelming, but it will fade to show more of the red over time and last longer. You get a gorgeous goldilocks period in the middle instead of it being straight downhill. Think of it like cutting your hair slightly shorter than you actually want it so that you can wait longer before getting it cut again.

    That is literally how a Chesterfield chair SHOULD look, if you buy one brand new it's gonna have that real dark color and very sparse red (or whichever color you get) undertone. The person who had it before had worn away all of the darker color to it's red base, regardless of people complaining and saying "it looked better before" yall need to understand that they are craftsmen doing their job EXACTLY the way that they should.
    You want a bright red ass chair, then go to literally any furniture store in the world and you'll find one there, but don't tell a master craftsman that they did their job wrong.

    This is exactly how a leather Chesterfield should look when new. The red colour you see before is the worn patina that accumulates as a result of years and years of use.

    • @y.s2470

      What I don’t get about this is how could the black have worn down so evenly all over the chair?Wouldn’t the sides and back still have some of the original colouring? At the beginning the chair had an even red colour all over, which makes me doubt it was worn down from black to red.

    • @grimplays1825
      @grimplays1825 3 роки тому

      @@y.s2470 The back does have some darker coloring if you pay a little closer attention when they apply the tear filler you can kinda tell. It probably is evenly covered in patina cause of the conditions of the house or where ever it was stored. Kinda like an old car in a barn the whole paint job can lighten or darken depending on lighting conditions, moisture, and dust. So that's probably why it's so even.

    Everyone down here freaking out about the color does realize that they’re only doing what the customer requested, right? If they wanted an antique two tone finish on their chair, the company is going to do that. Because it’s not your chair, it’s not the company’s chair, it’s the customer’s. You’re not required to like the same colors and same design tastes that another person has. Y’all need to chill out.

      Because it’s what the client wanted, and that’s the most common colour for a Chesterfield - they’re all over the internet that way.

    Gorgeous! I just bought 3 seater Chesterfield in this color. I hope it looks this nice when it arrives.

    Since it was solid red when it was brought in it was not an original Chesterfield chair but the Chesterfield style.

    First glance, hideous. Upon watching the end several more times, I'm falling in love more and more with the finished product. With a bit of wear, it will drip pure class. Great work gents.

    Cant wrap my head around about how many people in the Comments dont understand what restoring means, commenting on how they liked it before the black was added but thats what the chair looked like before it was worn out

    the black was suitable but only for the buttons. the cherry red chair with darkened buttons, i loved that.the lines just destroyed the chair and it was worse than before cleaning

    It's true that the red colour was looking awesome, but even the finished one was a kind of antique looking brown leather chair.

    In the description, they wrote that this is a chesterfield leather armchair. The color is supposed to be like that,

    Dang, it looks so unfinished. I thought they were going to do another coat and blend it a bit, but i guess extremely dark "shadows" are okay?

    Excellent job on the cleaning, conditioning and repairing. Tradition or not, the black is not attractive. Sometimes it's best to update/modernize antiques. The red chair was dreamy..

    what y’all don’t realize is that it was restored to look exactly how it did before, they did an amazing job.

    Why did it have to lose the Red, Bring the design forward . I watched to see a Red chair restored not retired.

    I was expecting the same chair when he was almost finished.. but than he sprayed that black paint and the chair became ugly. Loved the red chair way better.

    I’m not going to sound like a broken record here, you’re a professional and the black gave the chair character👌🏽

    They do a good job at the furniture clinic and I did an interesting training course with them . Furniture, like the chesterfield would be a waste if there were scrapped and not restored.
