Great video. Fish knowledge is important, individual fish behavior should be a consideration when scaping. Ideally, the perfect scape should consider the species requirements and incorporate their needs in the scape design from the beginning.
Oh oh! I did my degree about this! Schooling is directional, Fish will align with each other, follow/copy each other as a cohesive group. A shoal is just a group of fish, they have proximity but their swim patterns are still individual/random. Rummy noses school, guppies shoal
When you find one who is honest provides information without being pushy who is happy to work in customer service they aren’t far from Legends these guys n gals.
Ohhh is this a collab of Matt and MD!? Gotta say it's kinda awesome learning about kinds of fish. And at the same time MD and Matt is promoting the fish shop. Very well done!
Very well put together. Matt’s cool and works well with you. It’s very nice that he takes time out of his day to assist, educate and of course subtly advertise
I absolutely love Matt!! This is my favorite fish store in the whole wide world and I haven’t even been there. Such a great collaboration thank you so much for bringing us!!❤️
MD, will you do a full tour of that fish store? It looks insane, the variety 😲 also, think you should do a South American cichlids tank, geos, severum, blue acaras etc..
I enjoyed this so much MD 👍❤️ How awesome it would be to have a fish store with someone who can share so much knowledge!! An expert for sure!! Thank you Matt and Maidenhead!! Awesome!! It's always exciting to get to go to the shop with you. Having Matt take us around was wonderful ❤️ oh those dwarf little Nanochromis(I don't know how to spell it, but the ones that caught your eye!! They were stunners and you could see the little females bright breeding dress 😍) Beautifully filmed, wonderful video, and very educational!! Bravo guys!! One of my favorite top 10 beginner fish videos !! Thank you so much for sharing!! I hope you and everybody has a very blessed day!!🙏👍🌿🐟🌿💚
I love how your focus wanders even more than your camera's focus does. It's adorable. Someone needs to put you in the meme with you walking down the street with the girl, labeled as the lemon tetra, then, distracted and looking back at the other girl labeled the nanochomises. We all do that at fish stores. I even do it online sometimes and end up ordering more than I intended. But at stores, it can get crazy, especially on Black Friday when fish can be 50% off! I walk in intending to get a couple of clown loaches and glofish tetras, then how about one or two of these and those, and leave with half the store!
I am surprised too especially cuz he once said he doesn't sIeep much (often). Usually for muscles to grow you need constantly 7 or 8 hours of sleep (daily). He said he sleeps like 5 hours per day :D
This was a great video! I wish I lived in the UK - your shops there seem so nice! So many fish to choose from it's overwhelming. I'm just researching now while my new tank cycles. I've never done real plants or had fish for like 15 years so I'm excited! Def doing easy friendly beginner fish lol
'temperate fish tank' would be a great video, plants that do well in the same environment etc etc, especially during the cost of living crisis with the no heater. great video always!
Love this collaboration! Would love to see MD scape a tank in the shop and then Matt to choose the stock to go in! Pretty sure MD fans who are local to the store would go to see it... I know I would!
I am watching this video after viewing more recent ones. That was when Matt looked British before becoming more Scottish. You both at that time already made excellent videos!!
Absolutely awesome video. These conversations and tours are really exciting to see and (for those of us still in lock down) let us live vicariously through your fish store trips :)
in my country we still have pandemic conditions. Mask and 6 foot distance. That's fine with me. Making light of our situation has perilous consequences as seen now in at least two countries I can think of.
MD you are soooo lucky to have aquarium stores like this where you live. Where I live we have bugger all - tiny stores with small selections for stock, hardly any scaping materials. I think the biggest store I've been in is 1/4 the size of this store. So jealous!!
Greetings from Taunton, Massachusetts! Spring is in the air and my corys have been spawning for the 1st time since I got them, nearly a year ago. The 1st batch got eaten but I emptied the tank after the 2nd batch so hopefully I'll have some adorable Venezuelan corys soon! Love your videos, such an inspiration💚
I love Dennison barbs! (red line torpedo barbs) I have a small group in my Rio that ive had since January and they have been one of my favourite fish I've ever kept. They grow fast, mine were about 4-6cm when I got them at the start of February and they are about 8-10cm now. They are critically endangered in the wild due to collection for aquariums so make sure you're getting tank bred ones. (Most are tank bred now anyway) Also make sure you have a tight fitting lid because they will jump out if they get spooked and can be quite skittish at times like during water changes & when the light it first turned on. So I'd say it's probably best to avoid sharp hardscape in their tank. But overall they are pretty easy to care for and I know you will love them if you get them. :)
If I ever make it to UK, Maidenhead Aquatics is definitely on my bucket list to visit!! So many beautiful fish species there! Thank you MD for showing this to us. Matt has a great personality too! Hope his business keeps thriving!!
Black phantom tetras are one of my favorite fish. I particularly live the variety in coloration. Some can be much more black, while others can be much more red and anywhere in between. As such, they also shoal well with red phantom tetras which look almost as stunning as serpae tetras, but are a lot less nippy (and sadly much harder to find in the US.) The only problem with black phantoms is that they can be hard to find consistently here in the US. So, you'll get some and later want more to maintain or increase your shoal, then have trouble finding any, especially in a pandemic!
A good beginner tank is a 110-125L tank with 6 Corydoras, 6 Platys and 8 Lemon/Cardinal/Rummynose Tetras and a Bristlenose Pleco. Gives you 4 types of fish and activity on all levels.
Kept all 5 of them, all are amazing fish 😂 Watching your videos make me want to get back to the hobby again once I settled down somewhere 😭 Have white clouds before, their fry looks stunning with blue sparking eyes, if you have lots of plants you'll have a few survive ✔️

Watched it twice, straight away... beginning to sound a bit Brit, I'm here so much.... Anyway! Great collaboration! Yes yes, more more! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 One question..... I've scaped my first tank! Why do I want to redo it already? I was slightly rushed to get plants in... didn't have quite enough hardscape, and my trimming skills are bad... cut off my highlight plant accidently. My flow is a bit strong, and the back bit that's raised up for plants is settling. Looks ok, plants doing awesome, water parameters near perfect, but.... shrug....*I* know it could be better. Very well explained. Thank you.
Really good to know. Been looking for small schooling fish but thought that I wanted was shoaling fish.

Time for them to team up really :)

I think this is the 5th or 6th time seeing Matt in MD's vlogs and yet only our first seeing his face! Nice to see the UK returning to normal.
I've begun to love everything you throw at us, but this was a nice and educational and fun change of direction. Thanks for sharing with us.
I love when you visit with Matt. He is awesome and the two of you have great chemistry.

Blue acaras are my favorite.
Can we have a weekly Matt section? Please? :)
Md you really need a cherry barb tank... the red color contrasts so beautifully with real plants
Very easy fish to keep aswell and very hardy
I enjoyed this so much MD 👍❤️ How awesome it would be to have a fish store with someone who can share so much knowledge!! An expert for sure!! Thank you Matt and Maidenhead!! Awesome!!
