assalamualaikum:- peace on you (something like we are on peace mate no fights or wars)
Wa rahma allah :-and God's marcy (no needto repeat "on u" again that would be too long)
Wa barakatuh :- (and his blessings)
In total it means the peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings (something like ur telling him that u guys are on peace and at the same time praying for the one almighty to bless the otherones)

it's true that in Arabic we don't have vowels but we do have symbols that we write over or under the consonant. the thing is you can only find such writing in children's books and Quran. as adults we don't really need or use them because we have already memorized how to pronounce the words but I can imagine the struggle for someone who just started learning the language...

I'm 13 months into learning Arabic. I've got 1 successful trip to Egypt under my belt, and I was blown away by how nice everyone there was, especially when I was able to speak (limited) Arabic with them. They really appreciated the effort and were shocked that I could speak it. Most people were so confused as to why I'd learn it if it wasn't for work and I wasn't married to an Egyptian.
I think your point about learning Arabic, learning about their culture, and realizing that a lot of what we believe to be true about the Arab world (as westerners) if often times wrong. I felt a HUGE shift in my world view when I visited Egypt. Now I am eager to get back to the Middle East.
As a bonus, I've made a friend near where I live who is from Jordan. I'm able to visit him where he works and practice my Arabic with him. Yes, we technically speak different dialects, but they are close enough we can get through conversations pretty well!

كعربي أنصح بتعلم العربية الفصحى، أفضل من تعلم أي لهجة أخرى. فبها تستطيع التحدث مع كل متحدثي اللغة العربية وسيفهمونك، أما اللهجات فقد لا تفهم في بعض المناطق. كذلك معظم المادة المكتوبة تكون مكتوبة باللغة الفصحى فتعلم الفصحى يفتح أمامك مجال أوسع بكثير من اللهجات العامية.
as an Arab I recommend that you learn the Fos-ha Arabic (classic arabic), because if you learn it you can speak to every Arabic speaker. also most of written content is in Arabic Fos-ha
almost no one writes using other dialects.
another issue is that if you learn a dialect a lot of Arabs might not understand it.
so I highly recommend learn Alfos-ha

If not Al-Fus-ha Arabic, then the Egyptian dialect is your best chance with communicating with Arabs from various regions. When dubbing foreign movies, Egyptian Arabic is always used if Al-Fus-ha is not. And as a result from people consuming it, they more or less would definitely understand Egyptian Arabic, over, say, Yemeni or Moroccan Arabic.

Fellow Brian here. I have been learning Chinese for the last year, and you're absolutely right: learning the language, about the culture, and the history of China is an incredible journey. Sometimes, I think I'm spending more time studying history than I'm actually studying the language. Definitely my favourite part of this journey has been being able to talk with countless people around the world. Learning people's stories, and their views. It truly is incredible. It will be years before I'm fluent in Chinese (if I ever get there), but it's absolutely worth it.

      发音方面,建议你从汉语拼音字母表的发音开始学习,和中国小学生上学时的入门难度一个级别。
      别先急着掌握汉字的辨认和记忆,你掌握三千以上常用汉字就已经足够日常沟通用了,所以可以迟些把它们当重点,先掌握好拼音系统,从未成年人的带有注音的书籍阅读开始锻炼自己口语能力你。
      祝你学习愉快!顺利!

I don't speak Arabic, but I'm near native fluent in Mandarin. Learning to read Chinese has been one of the best things I've ever done. I read Chinese books and realize that it's virtually impossible to translate much of the universal concepts from Chinese to English. The spoken language as Mandarin and written is Chinese. Chinese has hundreds of dialogues. The simplicity of Chinese grammar also creates challenges, simply because it's so simple. Fluency in spoken Mandarin does not mean you can fluently read novels and books. The spoken and written languages are very different. Thanks for your insights and suggestions. We also have a lot of misunderstandings about Chinese culture.

@ماركو YT there are accents in the English language, you should learn the American or the British accent since they’re the easiest ones, the other accents, like the English Jamaican accent for example, have words from the Jamaican language in it so it’s going to be confusing to learn and people might not understand you even if they speak English themselves.
Yeah, you can learn by watching. I heard Netflix has an option where you can turn on the subtitles for two languages at the same time so that will probably help. You can even listen to podcasts to help with the pronunciation and spelling.

    اللغة العربية بها التشكيل
وهو مهم جدا لفهم النطق الصحيح و المؤدي للمعني المراد من الكلمة و الذي يعطي الإعراب النحوي الصحيح وأيضا الصرف 😊
كل هذا يساعدك علي النطق الصحيح دون اللجوء لحفظ كل كلمة
    مثال:
    ذَهَبْ = gold
ذَهَبَ = went (the past of go)

By the way, if you learn Chinese, you also learn 30% of Japanese, because the Chinese characters in Japanese (kanji) are the character from Chinese, and a lot of them share the same meaning, but the pronunciation is different. Anyway, you'll see.
