Yeah, I was expecting more to be honest. I'd only buy a 5090 if it had significant rasta performance over the 4090, it has lower core and boost clocks too...
@@schaffermatthew1 the melting problem wasnt the card it is caused by stuffing a massive card into a case to small and strees bending the cord i bought a angled adapter cord even though my case was large enough just because i didnt like the bend even then on such a heavy cord and have zero issues what so ever
See, if we saw at LEAST 30+/40 FPS (you know, actual playable frame rates) then I would be actually impressed. I’m assuming these tests were done at 4k.. maybe you would get higher raw performance at 1440p or 1080p (which most people stick to), but it’s still not a good look.

Cant even imagine the price of the 5090 in the UK, we get screwed so hard compared to US prices, the 4090 was £2k+ at some retailers for AiBs expecting £2.5k+ for the most premium versions
depends what aib model. the hgiher ones sure..but i remeber on release the 4090 was at £1600 it wasent till after release that prices started to sky rocket.
You're not losing out on much. Most of the games being churned out now are absolute trash so there's no point in upgrading. Most of the game I find worth playing are nearing ten years old now and you don't need a super computer for them to run properly.
I spent a good bit of money on my 4090, no plans to upgrade my gpu until atleast the 60 Series. Although looking forward to the testing/benchmarking, Marcus.
I think skipping at least a generation or two is very reasonable for the vast majority of people. My last GPU was the 3080 - going to get a 5090 this time. Won't be updating again for probably 4 years I guess.
I just did the same thing, but I was on a 4080 and bought a 4090. Very stupid of me I'm aware, but I was able to resell the 4080 at a $100 loss and curiousity got the best of me and now I'm wishing I would've saved that money and just waited to get the 5090.
the dlss is whats giving these cards those numbers ..news flash it will be made avaliable for the 4000 series so these numbers will not hold up against the top teir cards like the 4080 and 4090 save your money your good

I was very pleasantly surprised at the US prices but did not consider the possibility of NVIDIA bumping them up during the paper launch. Very excited to see your benchmarking and reviews. Tentatively hoping to build a 5080 rig in 3-6 months when they hard launch if the price doesn’t pop off

I was pretty disappointed from what was on offer for the 50 series. I was hoping the 5090 would have a sizeable increase in raw raster performance so I can use upscaling and frame generation LESS than what I use with the 4090 and instead, they seem to be leaning even more heavily on the things I would like to use less of. I get that path tracing is extremely demanding so perhaps 3rd party benchmarks may make the 5090 more enticing when they test other games but for now, I'm really not sold. It would take at least 40% better raster for me to even entertain upgrading (I know I don't have to, but it's a hobby I enjoy and I'm lucky enough to afford it) but from what I've seen, that may not happen. You should make a video where you test the 4070 ti super vs the 5070 ti and the 5070 vs the 4070 and so on. Like do a side by side comparison on pure performance with no frame gen

16gb should be the absolute minimum these days for any 50 series cards. 12gb just is not enough for 1440p and 4K users. 12gb might be enough for 1080p users but that is it. Great video Marcus well done.
Exciting times ahead and the pricing insanity seems to at the least be stabilising. It’s still too high but things moving in the right direction it seems
I'm glad they didn't raise prices. People were complaining ahead of time how much Nvidia was going to jack up the prices. Now that didn't they are complaining that the performance gains are from AI tech. I'm going to wait and see how reviews go from trustworthy sources and then make an informed decision as to whether it's time to upgrade or not.

@RadeonIsDead Screw your $649 for an 80 class card. Just because EVERY SINGLE ITEM you can buy has inflated 50-100% over the past 5 years doesn't mean a PC component should. PC parts should be immune to inflation because I feel entitled. Nvidia should just give away 5080s for free. Never-mind the millions they spent on engineer salaries, equipment, manufacturing, marketing etc. We shouldn't have to pay more than we did before the inflation because of our entitlement.
I have a 4070 super and its awesome but what I can't understand is why they don't just build an incredible GPU then add the AI stuff on top of that as that would then be the industry lead and the standard, instead what I keep seeing is lower the GPU and just use AI to compensate it up to a sort of standard. Have an amazing GPU that technically doesn't need the AI but add the AI after that to increase its massive potential. Then it'd be worth either saving for or investing into and it would stand the test of time.
They already have great gpus that have corresponding performance to their cost, the problem here is the bump in performance that is not enough to justify the cost and hassle to buy it and change it
So i thought the MFG tech would be something they can more or less force through the NVIDIA app but it seems like the games have to be able to support it individually.
I just want a GPU that can play my games at a minimum of 60fps straight out of the box without having to play around with the settings. It would be alright if my games have DLSS implemented (They don't) then I would love to get an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 but the games I play and mod are old i.e. Elder Scrolls series and Fallout Series. There are several hundreds of other old games found on GOG that I've bought and paid for that I play.
Great video, as always! I'm excited to see the real FPS comparisons. I have a RX 7900 XTX which I got at a great price so I cant see my upgrading yet. But it's definitely going to mean the gap between console and PC will be huge in terms of what it can produce for the next few years. I also have a small form factor case so i'm interested about the smaller sizes.

i'm on the 3080 rn and was hoping to go for the 5080 but im just really underwhelmed right now. there isn't a rush for me to upgrade as 3080 can run all my games, its more the fact I want to play Crimson Desert and GTA 6 with good graphics but that wont launch for a while. We'll see
I have a 3080 Fe so a 5090 Fe is gonna a be q pretty awesome upgrade regardless of the benchmarks right (with obviously the rest of the pc that takes advantage of the new gpu)?
what everybody is forgetting about 12gb vram for the 5070 not being enough, is that it is enough if you don't play the very latest AAA high graphical games on extreme ultra settings in 4k. And the fact that people have different budgets.
I live in the US, and I am incredibly mad about these tariffs. What I hope to do is get a 5070 super on the first day they are available so that I can get a good gpu without having a 60% upcharge. I wish there was more info about when these tariffs are expected to start affecting pricing, but I just hope it takes a few weeks

From the Cyberpunk 2077 bench you did and the beefy hardware upgrades on the 5090 over the 4090, I think they haven't yet worked out everything on the new architecture for gaming vs data centre. The MCM we've seen AMD have issues with. Yes it isn't as bad as AMD's case but I think this is where machine learning AI can shine sending data back to Nvidia for them to work out the kinks and perfect via updates for the Rasta algorithm to show what it should be performing like
The AIB partners prices will be substantially above Nvidias pricing, and, you know the scalpers smell blood in the water. They are gonna be scooping up everything they can and hawking them on EBAY.
Doing a build and probably going to try and get a used 4090. Might spring for the 5080 but I'm not sure yet. Depends how the secondary market for 4090 reacts
I dont think I have watched one of your videos since the 3000 series released during COVID. I found your build guides and honest insight very helpful. 2 GPU generations later and I think I will hold out to see what 6000 series has to offer in terms of value. Either that or I'll move to AMD. I haven’t built a system since 2016 and I’m budgeting a new system currently and have my eyes set on a 5070 but like you said 12GB of VRAM is ridiculous so at a minimum I would need to get a Ti which means spending even more money 😢

I 'm concerned that the 50 series improvements might be mostly about frame generation and ai and not too much about hardware improvements so maybe the could have gotten about the same performance with 40 series if they applied the same stuff to that.

These new GPU's are actually very interesting. I feel like everyone needed this new tech making everyone's lives better. I personally will not be upgrading to an Rtx 5090 as I don't game anymore due to new games being complete garbage and not worth my time or money but if a great game comes out that I end up playing A LOT I will then consider upgrading my GPU but I'd then be looking at a 5080.

There's me looking to get back into pc gaming with a 7800xt or a 4070 super. The 50 series can wait 😅 The dlss comparisons seemed very disingenuous in that presentation. Could still see ghosting on the digital foundry multi gen examples so dont have any real interest in 3 or 4x frame gen. Just seems ludicrous now and the pricing is absurd.
Do you realize that 60 FPS x4 = 240 as advertised.... yet past 60 FPS (done with DLSS) the last x3 FPS is from Multi-Frame-Generation? I get the same thing on the 4090 but at 2x: 60 with DLSS x2 = 120 FPS with 1 Frame-Generation. Then again the 5000 series is not for the 4000 user but the 2000 and 3000 ones ;)
I was going to build a pc with rtx 4070 super which cost 600$ from Pny for 1440gaming . Fortunately i haven't done it yet , and now i can buy rtx 5070 at the same price to play in 4k gaming))
Until you get final product benchmarks, I would likely try and get into a lower-priced RTX 4080 Super. You can expect scalpers and shortages until at least the summer, and the jury is still out on how great these will be in real rigs. I have the 4080 Super, it is a great card and happy with it. It's nice to have latest gen, but what are you actually getting for your money?

So, here's a question about upgrade. I have a 6 Yr old PC, 1660 z390, i5. I'm thinking of getting a better GPU, 3080 but is it more sense to start again? I want lots of vram for AI processing of videos.
I think a lot of people are trivializing how hard it is to Path Trace at 4k. People are complaining about the 27fps without DLSS, forgetting this is with RT Ultra cranked to the max and no upscaling. Then you add upscaling, which EVERYONE is using, because it's basically a requirement, and has been for a long time now, at least with things like RT. Now you're sitting around 60fps, all cranked up to max at 4k. Then you add MFG and Reflex 2. This is where people really split, and get, I think, unreasonably upset, cause everyone else says they should. We need to see how these 2 work together, and what the tolerance threshold is for any artifacting. If the artifacting is tolerable, Reflex basically brute forces responsiveness, which should also extend to AI frames, by monitoring inputs directly and warping the frames to be as up to date as possible, and filling in the blanks as needed. If it can do that with information from the game engine, this can be very good, otherwise you might be better off at 60FPS with everything cranked to the max, or, you know, turn down/off RT and play at max frame rate without RT... Or play 1440p native with RT on? We are still talking about the most powerful GPUs available. That being said, if you're looking in the 70/80 power range, just see what AMD/Intel are offering and buy that, it would hopefully be cheaper for similar performance, but it's not going to outperform a 5080 in just about any benchmark.
I didn’t buy a 4090 to use upscaling I use it to play everything native and maxed setting. I don’t plan on buying a 5090 for fake frames that introduce input lag. That is beneath me

5070 should of defo had 16gb minimum. The 5080 should of had a bit more too imo.

Nvidia performance charts are heavily skewed by frame generation and scaling. Don't make any decisions until real benchmarks arrive.

Agree - 12gb for a 5070 is not good enough. Anytime you play 4k with ray tracing with certain games (Forza Motorsport for example) it requires 16gb.

The 5090 looks good but I just got a 4080 Super prebuild about 5 months ago so I'll wait a year or 2 before upgrading

there isn't a rush for me to upgrade as 3080 can run all my games, its more the fact I want to play Crimson Desert and GTA 6 with good graphics but that wont launch for a while. We'll see

what everybody is forgetting about 12gb vram for the 5070 not being enough, is that it is enough if you don't play the very latest AAA high graphical games on extreme ultra settings in 4k. And the fact that people have different budgets.
I live in the US, and I am incredibly mad about these tariffs. What I hope to do is get a 5070 super on the first day they are available so that I can get a good gpu without having a 60% upcharge. I wish there was more info about when these tariffs are expected to start affecting pricing, but I just hope it takes a few weeks

From the Cyberpunk 2077 bench you did and the beefy hardware upgrades on the 5090 over the 4090, I think they haven't yet worked out everything on the new architecture for gaming vs data centre. The MCM we've seen AMD have issues with. Yes it isn't as bad as AMD's case but I think this is where machine learning AI can shine sending data back to Nvidia for them to work out the kinks and perfect via updates for the Rasta algorithm to show what it should be performing like
The AIB partners prices will be substantially above Nvidias pricing, and, you know the scalpers smell blood in the water. They are gonna be scooping up everything they can and hawking them on EBAY.
Doing a build and probably going to try and get a used 4090. Might spring for the 5080 but I'm not sure yet. Depends how the secondary market for 4090 reacts

The whole double and tripling from 40-50 series is the multi-frame gen the roar performance figures will probably 25-40 percent.
25% performance for a similar price is pretty good. DLSS4 is a nice bonus.
I dont think I have watched one of your videos since the 3000 series released during COVID. I found your build guides and honest insight very helpful. 2 GPU generations later and I think I will hold out to see what 6000 series has to offer in terms of value. Either that or I'll move to AMD. I haven’t built a system since 2016 and I’m budgeting a new system currently and have my eyes set on a 5070 but like you said 12GB of VRAM is ridiculous so at a minimum I would need to get a Ti which means spending even more money 😢

Amazing video and explanation, I’m currently gaming on a 3070 laptop and I’m building my first pc, currently only have the cpu(7800x3d), some fans, msi monitor and a 2tb ssd.
My question is should I purchase a 5080 on launch or should I wait and see if the 4090 goes down in price ?

I 'm concerned that the 50 series improvements might be mostly about frame generation and ai and not too much about hardware improvements so maybe the could have gotten about the same performance with 40 series if they applied the same stuff to that.
50 series has gddr7 , pcie5, displayport2.1 , etc there’s plenty of hardware improvements lol.
Anyone on a 40 series card does not need to upgrade, don't fall for it, 30 series sure but not 40 series.
I had a 3070 Ti FE and currently have a 4070 Ti and would have loved to have a FE version, now no 5070 Ti FE makes you wonder why.

5090 for 2k$. It depends on how much you can get a 4090 for. I think most people would be perfectly happy with a 4090.

These new GPU's are actually very interesting. I feel like everyone needed this new tech making everyone's lives better. I personally will not be upgrading to an Rtx 5090 as I don't game anymore due to new games being complete garbage and not worth my time or money but if a great game comes out that I end up playing A LOT I will then consider upgrading my GPU but I'd then be looking at a 5080.
The clip at 0:15 seconds shows a 5090. The left clip is one without dls and the right with dls 4 on. This is the how much it relies on AI.
and have you looked at a 4090 without dlss, it also gets less than 20fps

The dlss comparisons seemed very disingenuous in that presentation. Could still see ghosting on the digital foundry multi gen examples so dont have any real interest in 3 or 4x frame gen. Just seems ludicrous now and the pricing is absurd.

Do you realize that 60 FPS x4 = 240 as advertised.... yet past 60 FPS (done with DLSS) the last x3 FPS is from Multi-Frame-Generation? I get the same thing on the 4090 but at 2x: 60 with DLSS x2 = 120 FPS with 1 Frame-Generation. Then again the 5000 series is not for the 4000 user but the 2000 and 3000 ones ;)
I was going to build a pc with rtx 4070 super which cost 600$ from Pny for 1440gaming . Fortunately i haven't done it yet , and now i can buy rtx 5070 at the same price to play in 4k gaming))
Until you get final product benchmarks, I would likely try and get into a lower-priced RTX 4080 Super. You can expect scalpers and shortages until at least the summer, and the jury is still out on how great these will be in real rigs. I have the 4080 Super, it is a great card and happy with it. It's nice to have latest gen, but what are you actually getting for your money?

You can purchase one now for $2,000, or choose to save $166 per month for a year or $83 per month over two years. However, by the time you've saved up, the GTX 6000 might already be on the market!
So, here's a question about upgrade. I have a 6 Yr old PC, 1660 z390, i5. I'm thinking of getting a better GPU, 3080 but is it more sense to start again? I want lots of vram for AI processing of videos.
I think a lot of people are trivializing how hard it is to Path Trace at 4k. People are complaining about the 27fps without DLSS, forgetting this is with RT Ultra cranked to the max and no upscaling. Then you add upscaling, which EVERYONE is using, because it's basically a requirement, and has been for a long time now, at least with things like RT. Now you're sitting around 60fps, all cranked up to max at 4k. Then you add MFG and Reflex 2. This is where people really split, and get, I think, unreasonably upset, cause everyone else says they should. We need to see how these 2 work together, and what the tolerance threshold is for any artifacting. If the artifacting is tolerable, Reflex basically brute forces responsiveness, which should also extend to AI frames, by monitoring inputs directly and warping the frames to be as up to date as possible, and filling in the blanks as needed. If it can do that with information from the game engine, this can be very good, otherwise you might be better off at 60FPS with everything cranked to the max, or, you know, turn down/off RT and play at max frame rate without RT... Or play 1440p native with RT on? We are still talking about the most powerful GPUs available. That being said, if you're looking in the 70/80 power range, just see what AMD/Intel are offering and buy that, it would hopefully be cheaper for similar performance, but it's not going to outperform a 5080 in just about any benchmark.
I didn’t buy a 4090 to use upscaling I use it to play everything native and maxed setting. I don’t plan on buying a 5090 for fake frames that introduce input lag. That is beneath me
