    hahahaha mate that is an awesome setup! well done. I am setting up my own crossfit gym at home and been making plyo boxes, wall balls etc to keep costs down. amazing how much money you can save just by doing it yourself and there is so much inspiration on places like UA-cam (present video a prime example) that you can really do pretty much everything on the cheap but still have a good setup.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  7 років тому +3

      Thanks, mate! Doing it yourself is a great way to go -- and I've found that the finished results end up better. (I checked out some of your videos, too. Great stuff on your channel! Cool camera work.)

    This is just what I was looking for. Wanted to make something like this in the woods in my backyard since I currently live at my parents... I'm an Exercise Physiology student, and am told all the time how great weight training is, but we never discuss how great body weight workouts are. I believe it is what we are born to do, and if we excel in that then we can excel at everything. I only do body weight exercises and only eat a plant based diet, and people are surprised by that. I look and feel great doing this, and it is great seeing someone else who is too!

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  7 років тому

      There really are no limits when you turn to just your body (as opposed to weights) for exercise. I like your story! Keep doin' it

    Awesome room you have there. I just started out with climbing and i also think my dad would never give me a room for building stuff like this. But i love the idea of the selfmade hangboard out of normal climbing grips. It is compact and not too difficult for a beginner. I think i will build me one of these and put it right over my door. And then i only need some different grips for changing them. Thanks for that video man

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  7 років тому +3

      @semjonborzutzki9907 7 років тому +1

      Yeah the great thing is that you can adapt it to your skilllevel and then you have more options in your skillrange than on a normal hangboard. So thanks alot for that idea

    I with some other guys built something like this back in the 70's in a normal sized barn that was part of my ranch, those things you bought to grab hold of for your hands we made those out of oak, I told everyone how to build and we built as no one really knew but me, I put a 500Ibs squat rack in as we never really worked our legs real hard, you do have a really nice set up there and we used the same type of equipment you have except we had the height of a barn to climb to and would have races straight up. I do wish i still had the ranch but life happens, now I mainly climb trees with ropes but I have a very messed up back from a few bad car accidents, on disability, my back feels better some times from the climbs I do but I have to be far more careful. I do love your stuff.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  6 років тому

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  6 років тому +1

      I've been thinking a lot about how to make my bus/RV into a cool workout space, and I know adding a pull-up bar to the outside will work. I'm also thinking about some climbing holds on the outside of the vehicle ... but we'll see. Take it easy!

    • @NomadicGearhead
      @NomadicGearhead 6 років тому

      Man I would be really interested in all of that. A bus with it's solid frame could have a REALLY cool climbing wall on it, my spit-and-toilet-paper antique RV... naw. I have been thinking about doing a video about how I work out on the road though, there are so many great free places to work out -- many trails with fitness stations built in, rocks can be great to jump on and off of (if you're agile enough for that), staircases obviously are great exercise, body weight fitness, etc. I'm not fitness expert but I do like to stay active, especially when I have to drive a lot in one day.

      Oak dowels are very strong, and when short are never going to break. So I'd go with what fits in your hand. For me, that's about 1.5" diameter

    Thanks for sharing your workout space, definitely makes me think of some plans for climbing in the garage. I'm kicking myself for not taking even a basic shop class in high school, recommend any tools to start a basic climbing wall?

      It's amazing how much you can do with very little know-how -- you can do it! As for tools, even a simple hand saw and a drill can get you a long way. I built many things (when I first started out) with just a saw and a drill, propping everything up on an old cooler. You can do it!

    Your pulling strength seems to be outstanding and yet no significant amount of muscle to show for it. Why is it so? BTW, I am jealous of your home gym. Great work.
