This is going to dramatically increase the amount of money that the Trucking companies will charge to haul freight. There is no logical way that a battery powered Truck fleet will even be plausible. The routes, weather, weight, and a ton of electricity will be required to power these. Then you have to worry about the charging hubs that don’t and won’t exist for quite some time. There is no logically fiscal way to make this happen in the next 50 years. With a borderline default status hitting our economy.

    • @geomodelrailroader
      @geomodelrailroader 7 місяців тому

it is but CEPA is targeting the older models anything made before 2010 needs to be taken off the road those trucks are causing pollution and the exhaust is not filtered and all come with the Cummins engines and burn #2 diesel. #2 diesel is dirty and is toxic the newer stuff is watered down with DEF and the newer trucks have the CAT, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack, and Scanda inside them and the Cummins ISX engines are being phased out. Now California and the EPA have made them illegal you can not have Cummins engines in your truck, you can not have a truck that is a Pre 2010 model, and you can not idol in the port thats whey they are taking trucks off the road.

California does not have the grid to support this at all whatsoever, if you take a look at the eyesore that is the high speed rail there is no grid for it and the train is like almost 20 years overdue. The range of these electric trucks is only 150 miles which does not include the extra battery to go longer which a battery of that size can weigh up to almost 8,00lbs. After factoring that in that’s more weight on the roads so they will have to change weight guidelines not to mention these trucks run close to half a million dollars a piece in all Californians can expect more prices to rise on everything.

Big rig drivers average about 100,000 miles per year. Well maintained semi trucks can easily last 800,000, even 1 million miles. Doing the math, all new trucks sold in 2009, the last year of "dirty" trucks by CARB's definition, should be off the road, replaced or the owners retired from the biz, by 2019 - four years ago. No need for cash for clunkers; the clunkers are, by and large, long gone. So the argument that the trucking industry needs more time to comply, is BS. What they want, as said in the video, is more government support. Corporate welfare. Believing in capitalism necessarily means believing in investment; sow now to reap leate. But they don't want to invest. They want taxpayer funding. They want soft socialism.

Cal won't let you keep older trucks. So even a new truck in 2024 will only be good to 800k mile. Withe freight rates we are getting now we can not afford a new $300k most truck can not pay $4000. If you do pay it off you will have to get a new one because of the mileage. Battery packs on a Tesla car are only good to about a 100000 miles. How long will a truck battery last. Because a lot of Tesla's are only good to about 100k miles at $15k to $20 for a battery every year then. Then you have charging time every day on a truck that work a full12 to 14 hour day. So less work time per day on a truck that costs more.

Some cities across the British Isles and Schengen Area have low emission zones into which noncompliant vehicles are either banned or taxed. Whether banning diesel buses, and HGVs from California roads. If the engines within such vehicles were manufactured no earlier than the 2009 model year, is controversial, but no less of a concern is how other jurisdictions across the US, including territories, plan to govern the transition of buses and HGVs from those that run at least somewhat on diesel or petrol to those that run on electricity, biofuels, or just plain old hydrogen.

The emergence of electric big rigs has sparked a debate about the potential impact on owner operators and the overall market structure.
While electric vehicles offer numerous environmental benefits, there are concerns that this transition may negatively affect owner operators. Many of these individuals, who own and operate their trucks independently, fear that the high cost of electric big rigs could put them at a significant disadvantage. Affording these expensive vehicles could be challenging, potentially leading to fewer opportunities for owner operators.
Furthermore, there is a worry that larger companies with greater financial resources will be the ones capable of making the switch to electric big rigs. This could result in a consolidation of power, leading to a monopolistic scenario where only a few companies dominate the trucking industry. Such a situation might limit competition and potentially hinder smaller players from thriving in the market.
It’s important to consider the potential ramifications of this shift to electric big rigs and ensure that there are measures in place to support owner operators and promote a fair and competitive market. What are your thoughts on this topic? Let’s engage in a constructive discussion.

And personal solar is getting small and inexpensive. My new 100w panels are 1/4 the size of my old panels. And 1/8th the cost. A 1kwH solar "generator" is $499 now. That's enough for $220 worth of gasoline in mileage on an ev per year. So a 3-4 year payoff.
And you don't pay social security and income taxes on money you save. So the payoff is actually under 3 years.

Television hosts not quite understanding how quickly things change is truly astounding. Battery tech has improved leaps and bounds in the last few years alone. By 2036 the environment for these vehicles will be entirely different. This is like watching that clip where they couldn't comprehend what the internet was in the 90s. Either feed them better lines or have hosts who understand the bare minimum about the topic.

You think you had a choice in buying fossil fuel vehicles? The incredibly wealthy and politically connected global petroleum industry has made sure the world revolves around them with lobbying, campaign donations and outright owning politicians in their pockets (like Greg Abbott).
Second only to mother nature, the most powerful force on Earth is the global petroleum industry. Governments have gone and still are going to war _on behalf_ of the petroleum industries.

@@willmont8258 No, it is well known that cost per mile for EV's is substantially less than gas. That's a huge reason benefit of why people buy EVs in the first place.
You also have less maintenance with EVs since it has fractions of the parts count of a complicated gasoline car: engine block, pistons, valves, heavy transmission, cooling, liquids, belts, valves, etc. The drivetrain of an EV has basically a *single* moving part: the motor rotor!
Moreover, gas engines have an incredibly low efficiency of some 20% where 80% of its energy is lost as pure heat!

@@ja8570 Not true, because if that were true, people would have gone with electric cars and they would be cheaper, but they are not. They are more expensive and can't go as far, and take a lot longer to fuel/recharge. They also require rear earth minerals for the batteries, and the charge doesn't last if not used. Gas is good even if not used right away.
