At 5:11 she starts to explain how she figures out the size (width) for the spine. Amanda, thanks for adding this video to this playlist.

Thank you so much for sharing this Amanda. I have just tried to make a journal cover this size to no avail. Now I know how to do it properly, so, hopefully, my next attempt will be better. You are a treasure! 😊 Can't thank you enough. ❤😘

Thank you for this tutorial. It is the second time I am using this method and it is definitely the best way to make a cover.

Oh, my heart broke when you started punching the holes & I was hoping you'd realize the problem sooner. Those things happen to us all. Right now, I'm working on an album & had put the paper I wanted on the front & back, two different ones, with the prettier one on the front 7 a more sedate one on the back. I sewed in my signatures & put them in upside down so now my front is the back & back is the front. fortunately, I hadn't started decorating them & there wasn't a top & bottom. It will work fine, just not what I wanted. Thank you for this video. It was a very good review for me & I learned a few things too. Will have to see how you attach the signatures with the eyelets. I've never tried that. By the way, your laugh makes me smile.

My process is similar but your way is better! And I sure did pause the video when you got out the mitre tool. Lol I have it in my Amazon shopping cart now. That will be so handy for making better corners so thank you for that.

Best informative video I have seen for making these types of journal covers and I have watched a lot of videos. Thanks for sharing how you make these types of covers. I have added to my create list for when I finish up my Halloween and Christmas cards!
PS I know this sounds weird but I am glad you made the mistake. It shows it is easy for everyone to make mistakes regardless of experience. Also, helps to remind us to take a break, step back, and reassess what we have done so far before proceeding. Something else that is important in regards to mistakes is it encourages us to be creative to fix them. For the extra hole on this one I would simply add a nice dangle or add a ribbon for a book mark. The recipient would think it was made that way and not a mistake at all!

Thank you Morgain and yes I always show my mistakes as to me its merely an opportunity to show you what not to do ha haha and that its not the end of the world most things can be fixed xx

I noticed that your bone folder leaves marks on the black cardstock. I haven't used black for a while because of the marks and I'm too cheap to spend $20 on a Teflon bone folder!!! I, too, can't talk and work at the same time. Cover directions were spot on except for that blasted extra hole!! Hope your vacay was fun and relaxing.

    • @Scrimpingmommy

Doesnt bother me as you cant really see it once decorated. I have seen top creators using teflon and it still leaves marks.. not a big deal x

A great tutorial, so sad about mistake with holes. I’ve made journal covers very similarly but picked up very useful tips like using black 12” X 12” card stock, the way you glue and your beautiful corners. It certainly made a lovely base.

Hi Amanda! I started one of these covers from chipboard but my spine cracked (boo hoo). I’ll be covering it with fabric to disguise. But I was bummed to see that it cracked, as I’d used a poster board (not cardstock) to use to wrap the outside cover. That worked perfectly, by cutting the edges as you’d demonstrated. Oh well. I appreciate you showing how to make these from scratch. Gilly
