    WOW you need to check out Tom Spellman, Dave Wilson Nursery, he does a whole series on backyard fruit growing.
    I retired, left the orchard to our daughter and son in law, just a few glimpses of your trees, get pruning, get pruning, get pruning. We have 38 acres in peaches, nectarines, and we don't use ladders to pick. Again get pruning.

    I have never seen a mature peach tree like that, festooned with perfect peaches. Most people who put up videos on peaches have a tree which is within its first few years, or still in a bucket as such. The branches on that tree look really healthy and not a blemish on the fruit. Well done, you have mastered that art! Thanks for all the useful factual information, especially the idea of siting the tree. I have two pear trees and every year I explain to my neighbour that the lower one flowers first, but the second is delayed due to its site - but I would never have thought of exploiting that scenario in order to deliberately delay flowering. Excellent idea. I will be growing one peach (espalier - when it arrives) at the back of the greenhouse, but I have 3 supposedly resilient varieties for containers. I doubt I will be planting in the ground at this point - my area isn't ideal, so containers allow me some control. Great video and shows what can be done when you know what you are doing! Thanks, Vox.

    Maybe u still reading messages...i just purchased some peach trees bone is showing some drooping on the end point of the tree and in on shoot as well...watering every two days since they still in pots, the tree need to be transplanted but since is shooting fruits it is not good to do that now, i also put compost on the top of the pot...so what is going on...also noticed that some of the larger fruits have a brown spot on the surface of the fruit.. I really hope you can help. Fertilization is foliar with coffee water, other natural fertilizer such as bone meal, kelp, fish emulsion...once a week.

    Delay flowering time
    Standard spacing 15-20'
    Only produce few years
    More trees=better pollination
    Standard=yellow
    Well Drained! Soil
    Roots = not too deep
    Must have thick mulch!
    Thin out fruit while they're green
    Open branches=less fungus
    Pulling off fresh growth
    Harvesting:
    Look up your variety to know best times/practices
    & for your area ?problems & solutions
    ...
    Keep planting new trees to always have peaches (for when first trees stop producing)

    I wish you and all the other UA-camrs with Peach videos would mention squirrels. not one tutorial does,and my 1-year-old tree had about a dozen peaches on it and I didn't one. a squirrel stole all of them and now I'm trying to figure out how to prevent it next year problem is the lower branches are low enough for the squirrel to jump on then even if I protect the trunk. Don't you have squirrels down in South Jersey up here North they're everywhere

    I just bought my first peach tree. It’s about 2 feet tall. I am going to grow it indoors with a grow light and prune it. I have tall ceilings so I can let it grow a little. I might actually bring it to my friends house when it gets bigger and plant it there. They said they wouldn’t mind having a peach tree, so that’s cool, I can always plant it there and go get my peaches 😊 🍑

    James, you have been a real inspiration for me, I have been studying Jeff Lawtons free info on his website for some years now, Joel Salatin, John Kohler (Growing your greens), Jake Mace, David the Good, and "Plant Abundance" have all helped me on my journey, but some of your recent videos really hit home personally, I have just gotten my first order of wood chips, planted 12 fruit trees and am starting my food forest! Thanks James, keep doing what you do!

      I’m so glad to hear that David. It’s great to be in the same group as the others you named, and it’s even greater that I got to be a part of moving you to action. It’s nice when people watch and enjoy the videos, but my goal is to get people out there and to get them growing. If they watch one of my videos and go out there and start growing, I don’t care if they never watch another one. As long as they keep growing, and not only food 😉
      12 trees is a great start, you will be reaping rewards of your great investment. I’m excited for you my friend

    Excellent advice, here's some more:
    There are no organic peaches, forgeddaboutit!!!!!! I'm in Oklahoma zone 7 and grow Haven and Loring 3 year old grafted trees, all from Starks. I prowl estate sales for banned chemicals and apply them. Put your favorite chair out among your peaches and spend time there every day of growing season. Thin like crazy, no peach should touch another peach. Apply roundup on still mornings to keep weeds away out to dripline. Learn to can and freeze so if they bear alternate years you're ok. Good luck.

    • @jamesprigioni
      @jamesprigioni  7 років тому +3

      +Flaquis yeah that's a good idea. Just don't go crazy planting a lot under a very young tree so there isn't to much competition for water. As long as you have a mulch down you should be fine though. Carrots are good, and we use radishes cause they have the deep two root to loosen up the soil, and when you pick them or they rot, they turn into little work elevators to get deeper into the soil 😂

    • @jamesprigioni
      @jamesprigioni  6 років тому +2

      Yeah I have had that issue in the past, and with leaf curl. But the issues have reduced over the years as my soil has improved and my pruning techniques.
      No I don’t spray anything or do anything unnatural. I don’t even spray them with compost tea.
      But this year I may cover some of the fruit with like women’s stockings to try and keep some bugs from biting through if the pressure is heavy.
      There is an “organic” spray called “surround” it’s clay based you can look into that if you want though 😁

    • @Xainfinen
      @Xainfinen 6 років тому

      Yep, clay spray is very effective, It protect the fruit from bugs and frostbite and It's easier to apply. I can't find any infos on it but I wonder if it can deter rats and bats because they will be my biggest problem in my future tropical food forest.

    Me encanta el contenido de tu canal y los vídeos que haces, solo que entiendo poco inglés. Si pudieras ponerle subtítulos en español sería genial.

    My peach tree is in NY where I live and it’s leaves are still green even though it’s the end of November should I be concerned?

    I planted my peach trees this year; they are about 3-4 ft tall and loaded with peaches. Should I take the peaches off or thin them?

    I purchased a small peach tree from a friend in a pot but it has two main stems growing, should I sacrifice one and cut it in order to give the other full growing capacity or leave it as is? Also should I transfer it over into the ground or could I grow it in a bigger pot? It’s about 4 years old, 2 feet tall.

    I just noticed that the flat of peaches I got from Costco, had seeds that turned to a powder. I split it open and when I touched the seed, it was like green smoke. I tapped it and it reacted like a vaporing smoke like thing. What does that mean? I threw it out. Was that a mistake?

    James, 1st year bare root peach tree ordered from Raintree, having issues with leaves, I think a copper rust, not sure, some leaves are yellowing and dying but many leaves have rust like circles all over them. What do you do to combat this kind of infection? Do you spray your trees with anything other than Kaolin Clay?

      If I'm not mistaken I think I've heard him say he sprays sulfur onto his fruit trees for fungus.

    Great video! Do chill hours need to match exactly with what the area gets? What could be the +/- factor for chill hours? I am getting black tips on my peach tree, what could be an issue? Leaves had red spots and eventually lost all of them. Thanks!

    Hi I like you video on peaches but always wanted to know if you can grow a fuss peach tree from a seed or do you have to buy a tree to grow. Also I'm in Canada and wanted to know if yo get dwarf peach street and the time period it takes to bear fruit. Appreciate a positive response
