I I’m a local born in this area and grew up and lived right next to the New Galloway Station and living in the old conductors house in Kirkcudbrightshire I’ve been to many of the iconic places on this route it’s a beautiful place to visit glad you enjoyed it!

Western Lines of Scotland is a lovely route - from Carlisle to Stranraer and Port Road.
The GWR 56xx has working draincocks, don't use them right and you blow the cylinder heads!!

@@SamsTrains That's how hot my room's been, but as I'm in the desert I only have to deal with around ten percent humidity. I can't imagine being from a wet place with that kind of heat.

Lovely - and well driven! The Port Line was important in the pre-Grouping and LMS eras, with a sleeper express from London, and many freight trains, as well as the small, stopping trains like the one you drove. The line features in literature - it saw part of the main action in John Buchan's 'Thirty-Nine Steps', and Freeman Will Crofts' 'Sir John Magill's Last Journey'. In Dorothy L Sayers' 'Five Red Herrings', though the main train in the plot keeps 'Well up to time', Lord Peter Wimsey observes that the local trains are always late because the crew get out at every station to discuss the station-master's prize marrow - I note that you nobly refrained from joining in this traditional sport...

The East Somerset Railway route on UKTS is pretty good. It hasn't got any proper scenarios apart from one free roam and requires some dlc from steam and freeware from UKTS. A document is included containing all of the required dlc/freeware packs. Apart from that it's a good route (although it's only 2.5 miles long)!

Sam, Stranraer pronounced Stran rar is the port on the Irish sea for Vehicle ferries to go from Scotland to Belfast. I have been across on the very big Stenna Line Ferries to Belfast.
Stranraer is South West of Glasgow
Ah the virtual railway, because there is only so much one can do with their model set.
i approve of visiting strange faraway lands like Scotland.

I Live in Scotland there’s so much breathtaking views on the train you should tryout the west highland line on ts which comes with high spec class 37/4 in BR large logo livery :)

You should try the NYC Hudson, N&W 611, or the PRR E6. Don't worry though, they're free to get for train Sim.
Hi sam another great video mate I have a model of stranraer harbour on my layout set in the 1980s with class27/37/47/40 locomotive a and intercity boat day/sleeper trains to and from London euston in (00) I also been on the stranraer to AYR line a lot I the past i live the GSW LINE it is a great live today to with class156 DMUS running services today from stranraer to Glasgow central
One of my favourite route attention to detail is brilliant and has the best Carlisle station in train sim you should have gotten it when on sale would love to see more train sim from you Sam and a recommended route even thought it will take a bit of work is the CKPR (cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway) loved the vid dude

I was swearing at the screen a few times. Concentration is a prerequisite for short passenger journeys especially with steam locos.
The van on the end was probably intended for luggage and therefore was considered part of the passenger service and not an additional cargo van outright.

Off to Scotland,we go
12:00 I don't think any of the locomotives I have (all but one set are British; the final set being the Southern Pacific Articulated Consolidations) have any need for the drain cocks, but there is a Colorado and Southern locomotive for sale that simulates cylinder damage, as well as boiler stress.
Yeah... I've never noticed any difference using them in-game... maybe it's just a touch of realism you can pretend to use if desired? I hear some locos have them functioning too, though never come across one!

Hey … im maybe wanting to begin my own model railway but idk how … could anyone help ?
You can figure out the purpose of some buildings by checking the name of the siding on the map.
In most locos, the blower only does anything when the throttle is closed, cylinder cocks are only cosmetic in this model, but they work properly in the Bossman Games version of 5MT and all the other Staniers they made.
You can cycle through wagons in passenger view by using shift or control (not sure now, I do this by reflex and forgot) and left or right arrow, if the current wagon only has a head-out view, there's a chance another will have a proper interior.
The 5MT's on this route all have a cab light in form of a lantern placed behind on the tender. You have to press control or shift plus L, if I remember well.
You can only move the turntable when you're on the track leading to it.
I've played the hell out of this route since the day I got it a couple of years ago. All routes from KrossRails are amazing, but this is my fav because of steam era.
About time to run some locos into and through a bucket of cold water ? Hope you don't overheat Sam !

These hornby models made me speachless when I looked at there rrp yet have a very low quality. I remembered the latest hornby railroad black 5 had a rrp of 112 dollars which is 70 pounds has a much better quality but it has a lower rrp but an example of a high rrp model is the hornby James and Edward both are 152$ which is 92pounds but the hornby Edward has been massively been discounted to an rrp of 42.99pounds

Dunragit is normally pronounced as spelt Dun-rag-it, only if trying to say it in Scottish Gaelic would you say Dùn Reicheit. As someone else said Stranraer is Stran-rar. That was both a loch and the coast, Loch Ryan which is a sea loch. The harbour railway station does go out on a pier like that, now just called Stranraer railway station. Sadly the town station was closed in 1966 to passengers, and formally closed around 2009 (was used for freight I believe). My mum was born in New Luce which is just a stones throw from dunragit, so I know the area pretty well although I live just outside Glasgow lol. Hope not too much of a ramble, and you found it interesting. Just recently found and started watching your vids, not got a model railway or that. I did when I was a kid and well you never know one day lol, never say never.
GWR to St Ives, Cornwall, beautiful route, love to see this on train sim.

You coupled up a bit like I use to with my old Triang set :P. I think that van on the back may have been a break van, or at least meant to be.

Need to watch your water levels - you were down to 12% in the boiler. And the lack of pressure/problems reducing brake pressure at the end could be due to low fire.

Great video Sam. i love train sim and it's nice to see you drive. not to say anything bad but maybe keep a closer look to the water and the fire just as a tip. idk how the setting are with you but at the end it seemed very low both. Still tho was very nice to see :)

Man this route is old now but still holds up very well please try the steam sounds supreme sound packs and eps as it vastly improves it also maybe try the bossman games black 5 and rebuilt merchant navy if you want a challenge I still need to get this route and probably will on the next sale also you forgot to put water in and stock rhe fire box with coal which is why I use auto fireman

Hey Sam, i have a question about my model steam engine stopping on points. When I have it going at a higher speed it only jerks a little bit but when I try and get it to a crawl it just stops dead in its tracks right there on the points, do you know why that might be?
P.S. the train in question is a tank engine in case you’re wondering.
Yeah it's fairly common - if they're insulated points, you'll have a small electrical dead zone there. There are a few ways around it - you can use stay-alive on DCC, or try adding more pickups to the loco!

@Luke Harrison oh okay, thank you, I just don’t understand how it couldn’t be getting enough electricity because I’ve already cleaned the track and there aren’t any gaps in the track that could be effecting the electricity.

@@explodingbomb4853 try cleaning the pickups then if the track and wheels are clean but it is still intermittent then the pickups could be the source of the problem.

Not here to bash on train simulator well no that's a lie I'm here to bash on train simulator
If you're looking for a good train simulator to try I recommend the immersive railroading mod for Minecraft yeah it's Minecraft so it's all blocks and stuff but it is a very cool mod with so much to do not to mention it's resource packs which add in a whole lot more rolling stock engines etc worth a look and for a game composed entirely of blocks the models and the mod look a hell of a lot better than in train simulator
