Very useful video. I have a 2002 9-3 B205e sitting here with a suspected blown head - I changed the turbo hoping that was the issue but alas no. Sounds healthy and only 80k miles on it - no symptoms aside from coolant in the exhaust. Hopefully the head / block isn't cracked. Sadly last year our B230FK Volvo 940 suffered a cracked head and I had to source another head from a breaker's yard in Sweden. Hardly ideal as I'm in Ireland..! I don't think I'd be able to get the head off by myself as you did - well done! Look forward to part 2.
Good video. Can I also apply this job to my 06 9-5? Just found out I have a blown gasket, I think I brought it like like but with my love for the car and lack of mechanic knowledge I couldn't tell but now that I know, I would like to try to fix it myself. I'll rather do it myself then pay another 1-3k tryna get it fixed.
If you have the 2.3 then the process should be pretty much the same. I'm actually pulling the engine out because I found some more issues that need to be addressed and will be easier to fix with the engine on a stand.
No idea what model year it is but they had a known problem with to hard bolt in early 2000 where if you replaced the headbolts with the new version they sealedup gain (typical sign is the "Loose" bolts)
Man this does not look like fun. I messed up drilling out the manifold studs on my cylinder head so im probably either going to have to find someone that can weld them up and redrill them in the car or replace the head
Yeah, it's not a fun job. I should start part 2 of this job next week. Had to wait on parts. It'll probably be easier for you to get a replacement head. I never recommend drilling out manifold studs. If you do, keep the manifold mounted and use the hole as a guide. I prefer welding a nut to broken studs.
Appreciate u my Saab 9-5 04 been having hella problems

Wait till you see what's in store for part 2. Huge curve ball incoming. Things will escalate at a rapid rate 😂.
