I wish someone would have hit the Million Dollar Hit it Here sign in the years before instead of the Free Flights in this one. Oh well. Still amazing he ended the show by hitting it.
It's a damn shame David wright couldn't stay healthy. He was a hell of a player but just couldn't shake the injury bug. Ryan Howard was such a stud also and the shift really was something he could never beat and really failed to live up to his potential. He has a house down in Florida where I used to live before I moved up north a few years back and idk if he still has it but it's right on the water as you're going towards Clearwater in belleair and it's worth like 23 million and that was like before the huge surge in house prices has a lazy river flowing through it
What were the odds to hit that sign? That dude was magical and his homers were often majestic. Still the only player to ever hit the wall at Ashburn alley at CBP.
Cabrera still with the Marlins, back when he could hit, and would improve the next 6 years culminating in a Triple Crown. Now he's just trying to hang on.
Sadly, after this derby, in the second half of the 2006 season, Wright just lost his swing, and many blamed this derby performance as messing with his swing. This derby reminds me of the 2008 homerun derby, in how Josh Hamilton put on a show (like Wright did here in 2006), yet still lost the derby in the finals.
I think they changed the rules in the Derby each year since 2000. They did Head to Head a few years, then hitters had 10 outs in the final round instead of 5. They alternated after 5 outs for the finals for just one Derby i think. Now this one the totals carry over from the 1st round. How many more times would they change something........
first Round Miguel Tejada three home run ten out Lance Berkman three home run ten out Miguel Cabrera nine home run ten out Troy Glaus one home run ten out David Wright sixteen home run ten out Jermaine Dye seven home run ten out David Ortiz ten home run ten out Ryan Howard eight home run ten out second Round David Wright two home run Total eighteen home run David Ortiz three home run Total thirteen home run Miguel Cabrera six home run Total fifteen home run Ryan Howard ten home run Total eighteen home run Final Round David Wright v.s Ryan Howard David Wright four home run ten out Ryan Howard five home run five out
And it hit the sign on the last winning homerun. Epic finish...

As a Phillies fan I LOVE RYAN HOWARD.

I live right by it now!
Crazy how young David Wright was. Talking about how he's 23.

MLB needs to return to 10 pitch format. It builds alot more suspense and is much more viewer-friendly.
there was something special brewing on that Phillies team, which led to the 2008 Series
i’m here in 2021 trying to look back on the old David Wright days.
This event took place on my 21st birthday in 2006!
I was there night night. I remember how thin Cabrera was

I swear it sounds like Gary Thorne doing the stadium PA for the derby

I wish all these were edited just like this one, skipping all the talking and extra stuff, getting right down to the hitting!
david wright is the star of this derby
