Hi Neubs260 , Datsun heads flow great intake and sh*t exhaust ,needs to be at least 75% of intake flow. I got to 78% and made 777nm rear wheel torque with a E88 head & 2850cc. Exhaust pipe size and length on primary and secondary pipes makes a massive difference to torque
I only changed my secondary pipes down from 2.1/4 to 2 inch and tuned the length. 1/4 mile dropped from 13.9 to 12.9 et
with a lot less exhaust Reversion and more torque

+robwhite240z thanks for your comments! I will make a note to remember if I pull the head off to check and improve flows from the exhaust side of things.
PS . Your 12.9 1/4 mile pass is nothing to be scoffed at, that’s pretty quick!

I like seeing dirty old Datsuns taking on the world. the old L-series engine is a brilliant design
Like a 240Z winning a stage outright at Targa Tasmania and The Green Hornet 240Z

How does one identify one's block? N24 or F54 💁

Normally cast into the block on the LH side of the motor down the bottom about an inch up from where the sump starts.

Did you nitride he bore? Maybe ceramic coating on the piston crown.

I don’t think you can nitride a bore. A entire block would be nitrided in the process which might make it too rigid.
If I have the budget I would definitely ceramic coat the piston crown and skirts as well as the combustion chamber and valves.
