"Atragon" is canon to the G films because of Manda. "Destroy All Monsters" pretty much encapsulated a bunch of movies that previously weren't. This scene implies that Manda appeared and attacked at some point before the events of DAM.
In "King Kong Escapes", the giant serpent was not intended to be Manda. If you look close, his horns and feelers have been removed and his color is much lighter. Toho never intended to use Manda again after Atragon, but, since he was laying around, redressed him and threw him in as yet another prehistoric menace for the Kong movie. Anybody else slightly bothered by the fact that they established Titanosaurus was a peaceful species, and that this specific Titanosaurus was very friendly and would rather avoid confrontation, and when they destroyed the mind control device Titanosaurus stopped fighting, and seemed more confused than anything else, yet Godzilla who was "a hero" in this time period still blasted it over and over with his atomic breath, possibly killing it
Titanosaurus was the ultimate achievement of the mad doctor. With Titanosaurus, he had perfected the mind control. With the other monsters, he could merely point them in a direction. That line about "unleashing them" was meant to imply that he had controlled them enough to enrage them and point them towards Japan, explaining why they all seemed to have such a localized grudge. It actually explained a lot, rather than destroyed the continuity. And showed why the series needed a showrunner that actually gave a damn about what he put in the script, not just "monster bad, city crumble".
I believe there are several different cuts of the movie in circulation. There's the original Japanese theatrical version, a Toho-commissioned English-language dub released on VHS in the UK, "The Terror of Godzilla" US version which is actually just a heavily censored version of the Toho UK dub, and finally a network television cut which is identical to the international cut save for the censored nudity. Most badass Showa Godzilla entrance no competition.
16:34 man, thats the FUNNIEST bit in almost all kaiju movies. That punch is just so good.
If mafune had control of king ghidorah, rodan, and manda, then does that mean he worked with the other aliens throughout the series? Then he lost control of them when the heros used machine or find the control spots to break from him and aliens controls?
Nah, Katsura's actually just talking about assorted monsters that did bad stuff.
One of my favorite Godzilla movies!,I love your reviews!
That fire was originally supposedly unintentional. So yes def. props to the stuntmen.
aw man my fav honestly this and the first mechaG were my favs of that era glad to see your still doing G reviews man Good shit!
“I don’t blame him. If people in a Godzilla movie don’t believe in monsters, I’d be pissed too.” LOL
Love your reviews. More Godzilla please (regardless of what Twitter says!
His roar sounds like an elephant
Titanosaurs is not only uniqe but also kinda cute for a giant sea dino
See you for next year! Look forward to your next review!
Anybody else slightly bothered by the fact that they established Titanosaurus was a peaceful species, and that this specific Titanosaurus was very friendly and would rather avoid confrontation, and when they destroyed the mind control device Titanosaurus stopped fighting, and seemed more confused than anything else, yet Godzilla who was "a hero" in this time period still blasted it over and over with his atomic breath, possibly killing it
12:40 godzilla say get out of my city bitch
@12:34 - So badass they remade this scene properly in King of the Monsters
I Wish king Ceasar would help godzilla fight titanosaurus and mechagodzilla
Titanosaurus was the ultimate achievement of the mad doctor. With Titanosaurus, he had perfected the mind control. With the other monsters, he could merely point them in a direction. That line about "unleashing them" was meant to imply that he had controlled them enough to enrage them and point them towards Japan, explaining why they all seemed to have such a localized grudge.
It actually explained a lot, rather than destroyed the continuity. And showed why the series needed a showrunner that actually gave a damn about what he put in the script, not just "monster bad, city crumble".
"Don't worry we will this is the only movie he's been in" OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that ain't a diss that's a fact! OH!!!!!!!!!
Titanosaurus sounds like an elephant going through the garbage disposal
One of my favorite showa movies, and I liked Titanosaurus’s roar
I'm pretty sure that the 10 minute long intro is only in the English version of the movie.
Also the DVD I own of this, even in the Japanese version, they cut out the nudity.
My friend owns an uncut Japanese blu-ray.
The nudity is in the Japanese version. It's always been in the Japanese version.
Venomous Lizard, I don't even remember that intro
I owned this movie on VHS and I don’t remember that intro
3:38. Titanosaurus sounds more like a drowning baby elephant.
nah, titanosaurus sounds like he just lost his precious power ring
12:57
(Titanosaurus jumps back into the ocean)
Brandon: wait that’s it COME BACK HERE YOU #####
Me: aww man (throws popcorn bucket on floor) I wanted to see a dinosaur fight another dinosaur
You mean dino against dino
Great review, Brandon :)
18:25 my reaction to Anime Trilogy
Would like to see Brandon review the Anime Trilogy. Cue Brandon being shocked at Noodle Ghidorah.
Katsura shooting herself: My reaction to the anime trilogy.
Alright, another Godzilla review! Helps make the end of this crappy year suck a lot less. Thanks, man. Good review, as always. Too bad there never was a third Mechagodzilla Showa film, with a 4 way fight between Godzilla and King Caesar vs Mechagodzilla and Titanosaurus. Damn that would've been great!
one of my favorites out of the showa series too. :)
I am SO happy I recorded the version without the 10 min opening scene.
I think it would be a cool Fan-edit/Fan-dub project to attempt to edit GvsMG and ToMG into one 90 minute movie combining the best of the monster fights with a human plot that makes some kind of sense.
Dr Mafumi is played by my favorite GODZILLA actor Akihito Hirata Dr Serizawa himself. He was going to be in GODZILLA 85 but he died of lung cancer before he could.
3:31 he's a fan favorite because of Monster Island Buddies's impression
Aliens : * wants to destroy Tokyo *
USA: dont do our job for us dammit!!
