OMG... We used to dress-up & go to Marshall Fields (not Macys) to look at the window displays & have something to eat in the Walnut room. As soon as we stopped this tradition, the Market came Downtown. I've never been & this is the 2nd vlog I've seen from the Market. A German girl visited the Consulate & German activities like the Kindly Market. It looks so much fun. 2022 will probably be their best year. So many people will be out & about. Me included...

I worked in Chicago for 35 years and LOVED walking over there every winter....All of my Christmas ornaments are from there...
We were there three weeks ago and it was absolutely packed stall to stall with people. It's really great.
Cambria is a great chain! The Philadelphia one is located near the theater district if you over visit!

Happy Holidays! Glad to see you all made it to a Christmas market. I flew to Chicago for the opening weekend of the market and the line to get in wrapped around the block.
This was a fun video to watch. We were stationed in Heidelberg Germany and Christmas was a real pleasant time of year. Love the Bavarian towns and at Christmas it was even more beautiful. We still have some of our ornaments, 3 steins, huge nutcracker bar stools and many other things we bought while there for 3 years. Would love to see a Christkindl market again. But I do think I’d love to see Leavenworth Washington. The town looks very Bavarian and beautiful.

I use to live by Chicago and loved Chriskringle village. It was always just SUPER cold and hard to enjoy for long periods. I live in Philly now and we have a German Christmas market as well that I just love. You guys should check it out one year!
Merry Christmas to you both. When you showed the almonds being roasted (gebrannte Mandeln) I wanted to jump into the video. I actually remembered the wonderful aroma that comes from the roasted almonds, Gluehwein, and Raclette. In Switzerland they put half of a raclette in front of the fire place and slather the melting deliciousness onto plates of potatoes and prosciutto. Although it made me homesick, thank you so much for taking us along on another wonderful adventure.

Another really good christkindlmarkt to visit during the holidays is the one in Carmel Indiana. So many food options there as well! I've heard it was rated best christkindlmarkt in the states.

I've been to that market as I live an hour North of Chicago...Wisconsinite here and all German ancestry.. (It's so popular they expanded to two other downtown/suburb locations and one in my neighboring Wisconsin starting in 2019 but this location is th3 original.) The vendors are all actually from different parts/cities/regions of Germany and they travel a month or so in advance from Germany to Chicago to set up their stalls and over their goods, whether all sorts of food items, steins, ornaments, gifts, crafts, etc. People go crazy collecting the Gulhwein mug each each. I have mine from 2014. Then you walk from the Daley Plaza where the market is held and walk to Millennium Park to wait in line to ice skate right under the "Bean" or "Cloud Gate." And another super tradition that people also went nuts for these collectable glasses at a restaurant called "The Walnut Room" which is at Macy's or what used to be the old Marshall Fields with the gorgeous old 1920-1930 stained glass mosaic ceilings. Every year "The Walnut Room" restaurant, which was founded in 1905, and for almost 25+ years they have a super tall tree that is two store levels high and is decorated differently each year with different themes, many times done by famous designers like Martha Stewart or Vera Wang, etc. The pot pie is the house speciality but they have other very expensive yummy dishes like steak and salmon and what not to eat along with delicious desserts from chocolatey confections to creme brulee. It always crowded...no reservations so get there early to be seated by the tree. Lines can be up to 2-3 hours for those uninitiated.
