"These Students Are Ignorant!" Around 300 People Arrested During Police Crackdowns At US University

- About 300 people have been arrested during police crackdowns on protests at US universities.
In the early hours of Wednesday, police were called into Columbia University in New York, and also broke up protests at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as demos over the Israel-Hamas war reached boiling point.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said about 300 people were arrested at Columbia and nearby City College.
Columbia's Hamilton Hall was occupied by protesters and Mayor Adams said this particular group was "led by individuals who were not affiliated with the university".
Talk's Kevin O'Sullivan is joined by US political commentator Laurie Laird to discuss.

You do have the right to occupy private property
Do you have the right to vandalize public buildings? Do you have the right to intimidate students and block them from attending classes? No, you don't have those rights. Neither do the people who are protesting. They have the right to express their opinions and to petition the government. Trashing universities is not a right covered by the 1st amendment.
At least we're allowed to protest and critique our government unlike China or other Muslim nations where you have no say or rights too. Lol

This is the internet, we can see all sides of media reports and we can come to our own conclusions. Everything you have said here about those students is not true, simply listen to the students themselves and watch the actual raw protest footage, not the framing of CNN... hahaha please, don't insult our intelligence.

Looks like around 30 universities' encampments were taken down in the past couple of days. The vandalism and trash look bad. Also, things like blocking passages and such look bad. Polarization like you see in politics, and talking past instead of to and working out the problems.

There always seems to be an abundance of supplies for protesting, doesn't there? When I was a freshman in college, my food budget was $35 per week (10 for $1 ramen was a thing back then). So where do these college students, who want everyone else to pay off their student debt, get all the new canopies and tents? And spray paint to trash campus buildings? And plywood to create a wall around their "encampment?" (Ironic how the same people who claim walls are racist or xenophobic have no problem putting one up when it suits their purposes.)
