Hey, you made it this far! Thank you for watching, make sure to come back & say hi before you leave... its not safe to go alone...
I never knew there was alternative dialogue for low disposition with the brothers & sisters. I have never seen them as anything other than a group of warm, and welcoming killers. It kinda hurts to hear their low disposition lines, considering how many times I've finished this quest line.
It is because you have to try to actively anger them. You can be a low personality Orc and they still like you unless you intentionally provoke them using the disposition wheel.
I wonder if there's anything realistic withing the game that you could do to make them mad
I’ve never seen it either, I wonder if it’s possible to make them mad without attacking them or using the disposition wheel
They’ll have low disposition if you’re caught stealing. I thought half of them instinctively hated me and then their disposition flipped just as I was ordered to purge them.
@@xNealusyes, if you fuck up the Moltierre contract Vincent Valtiere might turn hostile due to disposition drop.
"This sanctuary is cursed by your presence" is probably one of the hardest lines I've ever heard out of this game in my life
The orc's euphoria while describing a little girl's murder comes first for me, but yeah, hers comes a close second.
"you remind me of my homeland. During the blight"
But Gogron gro-Bolmog is a treat. He is so direct, which is quite the flavour compared to the typical Dark Brotherhood assassin. In general they are a colorful bunch.
I wasn't even aware that the dark brotherhood members could actually dislike you, I always found it funny that this group of viscious killers were soke of the sweetest people in the entirety of cyrodil
Me too. Stumbled into it & it blew my mind!
Me too. Stumbled into it & it blew my mind!
Except for that Kajhit, but it was funny how they're some of the sweetest people you can meet in the game despite the fact that if you didn't have the same mother they'd kill you in a heartbeat.
@@babygurleatsshickennuggits4201 I just find it funny that the khajiit hates your guts until the very end when you have to, "clean things up"
@@DeccerGaming That was the absolute best. He calls you the worst names up until that point, then he apologizes and wishes you well. If only he knew what was coming, and if only we knew they were innocent.
It was the younger nephew, Caenlin. Right after finishing the quest he moves in and kicks Gromm out, it's safe to say that Caenlin set up the contract on Baenlin to make it look like an accident so that he would inherit Baenlins' house.
Makes sense.
He might even be an investor in the carpentry company as well. But we'll never know.
The fact that he only appears in-game after Baenlin's death and doesn't seem upset about it supports your theory.
Of course, that could just mean he lived in another province and they didn't have a close relationship.
Not true! Caelin lives in a camp near bruma! Thats why he wanted baelins mansion
That's what gets me about the brotherhood. Sometimes the targets have it coming like Rufio while other contacts are straight up evil. It's all the same to the Night Mother
I kind of had a suspicion that Caenlin was the one that prayed to the Night Mother for Baenlin's demise. He didn't seem too upset about his uncles tragic death. Of course I did killed him as well. Now the that family is no longer in existence.
I've seen so many of your videos, and you always manage to choreograph the fights perfectly. Like the Death Run one, instead of "I stabbed him until he died," you were like, "The heft of his great sword left him unsteady. Sensing this, I lured him up the stairs to the precarious ledge, and when he threw his entire weight into a single overhead strike, I instead stepped aside and totally didn't stab him one more time, it was the weight of his sword that ragdolled him over the edge and it was totally the fall that killed him." And here? You found a ledge, you used a summon to make the fight more mobile, and you again bonked someone over the edge. You make Oblivion's combat seem compelling.
I love how you describe things! It's just as enthralling as this game that was my childhood, and gives a writer like myself inspiration. Thank you!
Thank you very much! I mostly feel pretty inarticulate, so this is a lovely compliment. Hope you keep ✍️
I laughed so hard when I ran into Caenlin the first time. 1-Because his name is almost identical to his uncle. 2-Because of Oblivion's goofy voice acting I thought he sounded a little too nonchalant about the whole thing. That and him unknowingly talking about it to the assassin was too funny. It was so strange/morbid it almost felt like a monty python scene.
This is probably a throwback to Morrowind's Mephala Daedric Quest, where you poison an ex-Morag Tong member.
Wouldn't the medicine quest be closer to that?
In today's Dark Brotherhood Shenigans; Mounted head falls, everyone dies.
Then later conspiracy theories with Glarthir !
randomly got this video recommended, while playing oblivion, and the moment you speak to marie with high dispo her greeting lined up EXACTLY with her in game b/c I just got finished with the black band's quest.
suffice it to say it was super creepy hearing her speak in unison with herself out of nowhere.
Then you haven't met the guards who ask you the same thing with the same voice at the same time. They appear... quite often.
Thanks, Todd.
@@casvandijck9338 that's not the same feeling, but fun fact the khajit you rescue in lake arrius caverns has the same VA as an argonian in the temple of the one
@@Leviathis_Krade ....Well, you're not wrong. Overly precise maybe.
I never knew you could get low dispositon. Hearing my favorite argonian talk to the character like that broke my heart
Right?? It was wild to me too. I thought their whole thing was the juxtaposition of them being remorseless murderers but also being sweet.
@@DarkLOREDash It threw me off completly
ive loved oblivion ever since i was 7, these videos made me start playing it again
😍
Tempted myself its backwards compatable on xbox
I've loved Oblivion and it's one of the games I've spent the most time ever in, more than in Skyrim. But the more I watch these videos, the more I hate the voice actor who dubs all the elves in the game (he voiced Umbacano, the guy in prison, the victim and his nephew in this video and many others). His voice is so affected it's really annoying. It's like as if all the elves in the game had some mental illness. :)
@@dasik84 i feel like the annoyingness of the elves voices really adds to the experience 💀
i found this channel two days ago and im loving every minute of it, you've earned a sub. the way you turn these quests into game movies is awesome.
Oblivion is so rich in storytelling that your video opportunities are almost endless. I'll have to wait patiently and hope you get around to some of my all-time favourite quests/stories
Thank you so much mate! I genuinely love Oblivions tone
I love the Dark Brotherhood questline. Everyone is being rude to my character and I'm just thinking "Oh, don't worry. You're all going to hate the next part"
This is probably speculation, but Baenlin and Caenlin might also be related to Daenlin. Daenlin is the Smith and Weapon merchant in Bravil, at the Archer's Paradox.
Just thought I'd give a little fun fact.
And they're all probably descendents of a guy called Aenlin.
@@RealUlrichLeland who's Aenlin?
@@ytwyvern4240 possible ancestor
@@RealUlrichLeland No its Aaenlin, Aenlin was their mother.
Ive done this quest 23 times, pretty sure it's always his nephew that ordered the hit, i mean he moves in right away. Motive. And had to look like an accident to not arouse suspicion with his family.
One thing is certain, bainlin was a bosmer, so he will be cannibalised at his funeral eating up any evidence of foul play lolol
Love your stuff! Definitely too lazy to start up oblivion again so it’s nice to experience it again through a different medium
Wonder what the heck you did in order to make the Dark Brotherhood members mad at you, generally they're rather welcoming.
Breaking a tenant most likely I'm pretty sure that tanks your disposition as well as getting you kicked out
I know right? I never seen that before.
You could always annoy them with really bad jokes...
Punch and surrender repeatedly or make a drubk spell that reduce your speeccract anf personality
@@antondavidovic3996 I really would like to see what it is the coc is saying when doing the mini game especially the jokes.
How on Earth did you get Antenete Marie to hate you exactly? Every character I bought into the Dark Brotherhood was always loved by her.
So, you can fail the mini game under 30 disposition. Or punch her & yield + rinse repeat. But if their disposition goes below aggression you're in barney
@@DarkLOREDash ah, gotcha. I didn't have the habit of doing that with any of my characters. I assume you found out about extra dialogue people don't usually hear was like "Ooooh, gotta to pounce on that.". It's awesome the amount of work you put in, dig into and look into what others have found.
I don't think so, she tends to run her mouth and is a shit cook, at least according to Vicente Valtieri.
I just can‘t describe how much i love this kind of videos. pls never stop!
Dang lol didn’t know The brotherhood had multiple line of dialogue if they dislike you
Me either? My mind was blown
@@DarkLOREDash Thank you for covering it!
Oblivion would make a great theatre play, all you need is 4 actors at most.
I was just saying how annoying the elves voice actor is. :D
If you don't drop the stuffed head does the black horse courier have a different issue I wonder? 🤔
Ok I can't help but get a "I am immortal, about to decrease my age, don't want anybody asking questions, so I fake my death" story here. It is just far to much of a coincidence that a nephew would have the exact same taste in fashion and desire to sit in the exact same chair! THE NEPHEW IS THE UNCLE!!!!
I feel bad for Gromm to be honest. He seemed to really care for Baenlin
Me too. The voice actor did a really good job
My favourite way to deal with this quest and most dark brotherhood quests is with illusion.
I combine invisibility with frenzy and do both spells simultaneously.
This makes it too easy to kill without repercussions.
Gotta say it was quite jarring to hear the negative disposition dialogue from the members, as I've only heard the eerie, overly friendly and welcoming cult like dialogue. I've read in the comments you have to intentionally upset them, which I never even thought to try, but Im glad they added different dialogue.
Yes, I just stumbled into it & was confounded
@@DarkLOREDash It was a super cool detail and I'm glad you went through all the members, showing the cool little details most of us missed during our many playthroughs.
I was waiting for this one! Because at first whenever I loosened the fastenings Gromm would immediately come running up the stairs & around the entire house several times! I had to stay stuck in the crawl space for ages before he would calm down. I couldn’t even sneak back past him back to the basement because he would always sense me! Yet when he was facing Baenlin’s dead body he wouldn’t sense me vaulting over the landing behind him & picking the lock of the front door lol
This has got to be best way to go through quests. Narrating like this, exploring each option and method, I absolutely love it
Caenlin is a very obvious suspect, but I think that carpenter guy is suspicious too. He certainly stands to gain from this death looking like an accident. Suddenly, all of the people of Bruma are scared of the integrity of their homes and will come begging him to work on their roofs or foundations or what have you. It sounds like they didn't care before and the chapel was the only thing in the town he ever worked on. Now business is booming.
EDIT: By the way, I find it hilarious that he's a carpenter and was supposedly contracted to work on the chapel's roof, which is stone.
That also sounds plausible, maybe Caenlin was at the very least an accessory
@@Ixmore Yes, it's also very likely they were working together
I only met Caenlin once, we didn’t really talk. We didn’t get along and the house was once again empty.. I returned a few times to see if anyone else would show up. But it stayed empty.
ahhhh yes do the whole dark brotherhood quest line, love it!
Definitely, brother 💀
Your videos, as I am anxiously waiting for the next mystery/reveal to appear on your channel, remind me my teen years. Well, internet was slow back then and so on but as I was an avid Tolkien fan, all kind of additional information was welcome. I still remember, I was about 17 and got J.E.A Tyler's "The Tolkien' companion" for christmas. Geesh, i was overwhelmed. After finishing the christmas dinner I withdrew into my reading corner, opened the book and was lost for the world for next 12 or so hours.
Thank's and keep them videos coming.
I love how you show the responses with both dispositions
I actually found the Black Horse Courier article when rummaging through the Black Horse Courier offices before even joining the Dark Brotherhood 😂
i didnt know you could piss off the DB members enough to change their tone toward you lmao, thats wild. 15 years of oblivion and i still learn new stuff all the time
Right? It's funny, their disposition has to be under 30. BUT characters like Gogron have aggression at 40. If you drop an oblivion chars disposition under their aggression, they attack. So I needed console commands of setav aggression to under 30 so he didn't try chop me everytime I talked to him 🤣
it hurts me every time I hear the low-disposition dialogue. Despite being psycho murderers, they're really sweet when they like you.
... wait there's a cellar??? How the hell have i never realized that, I've played this quest at least a dozen times (and usually failed the bonus cause walking through the front door like an idiot)
Sorry but that's low key amazing 😆
@@DarkLOREDash Honestly, when i was a kid, I had no idea how to be stealthy at all, and would usually just abuse the invisibility enchantment glitch for the dark brotherhood stuff, especially that one with going back up ot the starting cell x-x
lol
Thank you for making this a full-series!
It may sound bizarre, but it seems to me like a family curse of Daedric origins: Wealth at a cost, to be replaced by an identical nephew, generation after generation.
My bet is on Clavicus Vile.
Baenlin sure is a looker, isn't he?
Oh behave
One of the things I really like about Oblivion is that every town has it's own architecture, influenced by the people and surrounding provinces. Wish Skyrim had a bit more of that. At least more than just a dank quarter in Windhelm for the Dunmer. The elves are there for nearly two centuries, clearly they would have more impact. And if not inside the city, at least a village there or in the Rift full of dunmer.
man you are teaching me more things in a game that I love
His body when he fell was in the position and looked like he was saying "OOOOHHHH noooooooo!!! My cake's burning!!!!!"
Honestly my favorite mission in oblivion is the house party of death one just so fun to do
that quest is probably fan top 1 ES quest of all times
Oblivion quests for me are the best In elder scrolls. Not related to the dark brotherhood but the hackdirt quest was really cool too.
The opening of this video was exactly what it needed to be.
How did you piss off the whole Sanctuary?? It's so funny to see them angry instead of the usual overly sweet responses 🤣
So "Frodo" Caenlin the Nephew of "Bilbo" Baenlin couldnt wait to get Bagginnsend so a small Accident happened?! And Gromm is Sam i guess...
I can only wonder how you can possibly have low disposition with the DB guild members... feel like you’d have to steal/prank them/beat them up in order for them to hate you that much lol
I'm wondering. If you kill him and grom with weapons would the Minotaur head still be hanging? Could you just kill caelin with it?
Sheeet that's a great thought
"sometimes I think Lachance will let anyone into this sanctuary" LMAO
The man was desperate😔😔
This video was absolutely a banger
Much appreciated!
19:12 I see we got a peak behind the curtain here! I see you looking for the right paper then going back to the entrance to set the scene! Haha love the cinematography, keep it up!!
I didnt even know that they could have low disposition responses! I thought they were always nice.
This was worth it just to hear the low disposition dialogue, never have before
Watching your KOTOR series now. I’m really enjoying my time
Great in depth video!
I have a bad memory for names so i rarely put the mutterings of the locals together with all the events involved with all the quest lines.
I'm wondering what happens if you drop the head on Baenlin before you join the Dark Brotherhood?
I'll do experiments on my next play through.
I think both Baenlin and Gromm are marked as essential until you get the quest to kill them.
@@iranianali Seems likely.
I'll give you my results when i try it. Should be a little bit later today. After lunch. ;) 😏
@@iranianali So, the results are (Finally) in!
I snuck in Baenlins' house and with chameleon 95% i shot them (with bow) right in front of Grom. Grom didn't so much as bat an eye. Later when i got the quest to assassinate them for the guild the quest just updated as complete a few moments after being assigned to it, No reward of course.
I later snuck back in to assassinate Caenlin.
Only winged then and they put up a good fight before going down without calling for guards. Oh and before the quest i couldn't open the passage. After the quest i found the Minotaur head to now be securely fastened with new ropes. 😆
No wonder something felt fucky when I did the quest and talked to the nephew, years ago.
Skyrim repeated this kind of kill at that wedding but in that game it does not make sense. No seriously it doesn't. In that game's context it's to draw the attention of the emperor so he would come to Skyrim. So why make it look like an accident? The bonus there should have been to find the hidden bow there and kill the woman from that vantage point unseen. Skyrim's dark brotherhood copies a lot a lot a lot of elements from Oblivion's dark brotherhood only worse.
There is a bow that you can get
@@lifeofdwight3968 I mentioned that.
The Emperor was supposed to be being lured to Skyrim from Cyradil. If his Niece was murdered he would be on high alert, but if hes only going to the funeral of his Nieces accidental death he wouldnt have as much reason to have his guard any higher than an Emperor typically does. It makes perfect sense to make the murder look accidental
@@GaMeRfReAkLIVE I forgot to mention the other oddity, why kill her in the first place? The emperor was coming to Skyrim regardless. It's also weird how the wedding and the emperor's arrival never happens if you don't do the quest line or if you kill Astrid in that shack. You would think both would happen in the civil war. The best parts of said war isn't even apart of that quest line. Like the oddly placed temporary truce in the main quest if you didn't complete the civil war.
There are so many dark brotherhood quests that I would want to know who performed the ritual. Like the simpleton at the village near the steps of the mountain in Skyrim.
I made my house look like I could do the Black Sacrement for that elvish piece of shit in the cell on the other side. Last thing I said to him before leaving the cell (in the tutorial that is) "this one will spend gold for your bled-out corpse".
"Unfortunately" someone got ahead of this one. Very fortunately, this made this one a good bit richer...
@@casvandijck9338 you mean in oblivion? wasnt that dark elf important for something? i forget.

I’ve never played so hopefully that isn’t a to difficult question.

Heya! Disposition is how npc feel about you. 100 = love 0 = hate. You can change disposition in the speech mini game, attack them (then yield) or other ways. Npcs have aggression too. 100 = hate 0 = will never attack. If you drop disposition below their aggression they will attack on sight. Hope that helps

Whenever I replay this quest or see it or talk about it, I remember my first playthrough. I managed to kill Baenlin with the falling head, but on my way out Grom detected me. He followed me, weapon drawn, out of the house. But for some reason the game hadn't detected my forceful intrusion, so to the guards it looked like Grom wanted to kill me for no reason. So the town guard attacked him, saving me. And stealing my bonus.

Mornin'! Nice day for fishing ain't it? Hu-hah
I love fishing! That shit's dingo!
Ok, here's my whole headcannon on the situation, and would like to hear your guys and anyone who sees this, thoughts on this.
Caenlin was most likely the one who ordered the hit on Baenlin, but why is the question. Well, we know Caenlin was his Nephew, so Baenlin has a Brother. Who is the brother? Daenlin, the owner and Smith of The Archers Paradox in Bravil.
Caenlin hated living in Bravil, cause it was so run down, meanwhile his Uncle was living a wealthy and cozy life in Bruma.
Finally having enough, he contacts the Dark Brotherhood to have them kill his Uncle so that he can inherit Baenlins Wealth and House.
Honestly, I know the nephew arranging for the assassination is likely the case, but I can't help but wonder if the guy from that carpentry business that was interviewed by the Black Horse Courier was also in on the assassination. Just seems like he stands to benefit if a guy dies due to issues with the wall/fastenings and he gets to use it as a chance to promote his business and take advantage of people's fears that their house could fall on them next
Awesome 😂, and happy new year 🎉
Found this on recommended. Nice.
"naturally, we accept"
But we can clearly see your natural response was no, because it has the grayed out option for when you click it lmao. Not a big deal at all just thought that was really funny
Bro what did you DO to get those low disposition lines lmao
I didn’t even know they were in the game.
Literally had to click character, open console modisposition 0000014 - x amount. Eg cheat cus their aggression is so high. The Orc literally has higher aggression than you can drop it to get the convo so I had to mod his aggression manually 💀
Is it true what they’re saying? Is Baenlin really dead?
The question is, if you murder baenlin outright, can you drop the Minotaur head on Caenlin afterwards?
I never knew it was even possible to make most members of the Brotherhood dislike you. That was interesting.
Wow, I’ve never heard such negative interactions from the Dark Brotherhood before. I always work early and often on my Speechcraft skills when I play in Oblivion.
this mission used to scare me when i was kid, not sure why
It was a little for me but that’s only because I didn’t use much stealth before the Dark Botherhood (started the Thieves Guild later into the game) so this mission being one that needs complete stealth to get the bonus was a bit of an adjustment. I actually had to reload my save since when I snuck upstairs Grom somehow saw me. Second attempt I went unseen though
I never knew there was a caller entrance…
What did you do to get that negative disposition at the sanctuary? Veto Lucien Lucien Lachance's nomination as sexiest man of Cyrodill?
I used moddisposition in the console... right after saying Lachance is a schoolboy bitch
Damn they really don’t hold back when you have low disposition 😭
How was your disposition so low with EVERYONE?! Like the kajihit I get but everyone else?!
You can do it via speech wheel bit I use the console command moddisposition
Is it true what they’re saying? Is old Baenlin really dead?
