The summary of Scott’s opinion on Mario kart super circuit: Well yes it’s original but actually no Well yes it’s fun but actually no Well yes it’s innovative but actually no
This comment hits too close to home. I absolutely love this game, even if it was a little clunky and aged poorly The tracks were fun, and the AI was super difficult, especially in 150cc. I do sadly agree with some UA-camrs who don't like this game, or criticise the controls or sound, but I feel proud knowing that this was what got me into the Mario Universe.
@@reversalmushroom I am pretty sure they wanted a Super Mario Kart like game again, and the GBA was just perfect for such an opportunity. But yeah, Super Circuit is just not really worth it unless you really have an itch for old Mario Kart to scratch.
This is seriously my favourite channel on UA-cam right now. Every video this man makes is always of high quality. Funny, charismatic and talented, Scott has it all. I'm so glad I found this channel back in 2017, been a fan since.
I also lost a great GBA game at my cousins' house, but they didn't steal it. My sister decided it would be cool if she traded my copy of Super Mario World on GameBoy Advance for the remake of Super Mario Bros. 2. Despite what Dunkey may say, that game is NOT as fun as Super Mario World.
To be fair to the single-cart multiplayer, any payload (and I mean ANY) pushed to a GBA through a link cable (even a Gamecube link cable) has to fit into the GBA's RAM. It's honestly impressive that much content fits into 256kb.

This was my childhood Mario Kart as well. I don't really play it much today because I've found it impossible to get back into the controls after years of playing with the modern drifting style, but I still love it. Like Scott said, the music really is quite good, and I think that's partly because it's just kind of a different style in general from most modern Mario Karts. I think the course themes are also more creative than a lot of modern ones. Cheese Land and Ribbon Road are two standouts in my mind [maybe that's why they got nice new coats of paint in MK8?]. My absolute favorite track in the game has to be Sunset Wilds, though; the backdrop looks like a painting that is constantly changing. That is my number one most wanted track in a future Mario Kart.
This game was one of the many of my childhood, I remember being so bad at the game, but I loved it anyway. My favorite track was always Cheese land, but just like you Scott, I lost it somewhere

Mario Kart Super Circuit was really impressive it was so much fun and played pretty well once you got used to it. It was definitely the Mario Kart of my childhood as well. A lot of the tracks are super fun too.
Back when Super Circuit came out I loved it! GBA was my first console I bought on launch as a young kid and remember getting Mario Kart: Super Circuit when it came out with some cash I had also saved up. I grew up playing a mashup of both the Super Nintendo and the N64 so I liked that the handheld version was a nod to the SNES in a lot of ways. It feels like the Mario Kart of the series you "had to be there" to enjoy much like the SNES Mario Kart. Is Mario Kart SNES the best Mario Kart? No but it's the one I remember playing with my dad when I was little. He would make sure the enemies got out of my way to help me win. Games in this era being so young were also before a time when you really were worried about graphics, content etc. Like a handheld that had good graphics and good gameplay? A Mario Kart I could play at my gramma's house, in the car or away from the tv? (I didn't even CARE about the light issue until way later). I wasn't jaded by gameplay, graphics and all of that stuff that seem to really overshadow some aspects of gaming until after this 'generation' of gaming so it holds a soft spot in my heart that people who are younger will have with a console much newer than the GBA.
@@howedaddy6122 memorial day? what? I, uh, don't know what that is, so surely not the whole world celebrates it. I got school tomorrow, that's for sure.
Not sure how one can think Super Circuit didn't bring much to the table. It did a number of important things for the series as a whole. It was the first to add additional tracks. Now a staple of the series. That extra content was a godsend back in the days of no DLC and was always appreciated. It was also the first to add a free race mode so you could just run tracks the way you felt like against the AI. It also greatly improved the AI as well. The CPU was now capable of using the entire item set and didn't rubber band anywhere near as much as the previous games. All these improvements would be moved to new titles in one form or another.
I love Mario Kart Super Circuit, honestly. Whenever I'm stuck between 2 pipes, I pull out my Game Boy Advance, and play this game for the rest of my life.
Slightly older gamer here. I grew up on Super Mario Kart. I thought Mario Kart 64 was fine, but I kind of lamented that we'd never have one like the original again. Then this game came out. I loved it so much. I played everything. Then, after playing everything, I found out that THE ORIGINAL SUPER MARIO KART WAS UNLOCKABLE! It blew my mind, and is one of the best surprises I have ever gotten in a video game.
Fucking Vita man. Such lovely hardware, beautiful console overall, just died by shit support and never got the love it deserved. Shit still breaks my heart to this day.
PSP was really great, especially how it was so skillfully hacked by a lot of people and utilized in so many ways. But I personally found PS Vita just overall to be better. Only step downs for me are terrible support by Sony and a not-so-great video game library.
In my early 20s I worked for a local retro video game shop and when we had slow days and nothing to stock we were encouraged to play the games in the store so we knew more about what we were selling. I realized we had a lot of copies of this game and decided to try it out. I played through every course and cup in one slow shift and never picked it up again or sold a copy. It was fun for a couple of hours but after that I was just ready to play the upgraded versions.

I wasn't jaded by gameplay, graphics and all of that stuff that seem to really overshadow some aspects of gaming until after this 'generation' of gaming so it holds a soft spot in my heart that people who are younger will have with a console much newer than the GBA.
One of the many great things about your videos is how you kindly bleep out the ef words and other swears. Love it.
Me: Time to study at the last minute!
Scott: I'm about to end this man's whole career.
But tomorrow is memorial day 🤔
@@howedaddy6122 memorial day? what? I, uh, don't know what that is, so surely not the whole world celebrates it. I got school tomorrow, that's for sure.
Same. Gotta finish a final project and scott dropping videos like he wants to end me lol
I wish dislikes actually worked.
@@howedaddy6122 it might not be America but you must have jinxed it because school was cancelled for me today.
The letter to customer support is my favorite part of the video.
"Oh hey, Bionicle."
*MY MAN* _high five_
I really played a lot of this game on the toilet back in the days. Afterwards I washed my hands singing ‘happy birthday’.
5:20 “COINS ARE BACK BITCHES!”
I’m dead! 😂
“#13 Trending on Gaming” Scott deserves better , he needs more acknoledgment!!
I love Mario Kart Super Circuit, honestly. Whenever I'm stuck between 2 pipes, I pull out my Game Boy Advance, and play this game for the rest of my life.
Nice Lonely Goomba reference.
Christopher Moon ah yes another bad comment by you.
@@TheMarioManiac Ah yes, another repetitive reply from you.
@@TheMarioManiac wat
Christopher Moon “repetitive” try again 😂👌
I love this game, excellent music and the graphics perfectly grab what’s quitessential to the MK experience.

Yoshi: Yoshi!
His neck: Oh, please end my life
Seriously
Whyyyyyyy
You should do a video on the conundrum that is the Playstation Vita
The most underrated console ever in my opinion. It was completely screwed over by Sony. (THOSE MEMORYCARDS AAAAAARGH)
5:20 this cured my depression
In my early 20s I worked for a local retro video game shop and when we had slow days and nothing to stock we were encouraged to play the games in the store so we knew more about what we were selling. I realized we had a lot of copies of this game and decided to try it out. I played through every course and cup in one slow shift and never picked it up again or sold a copy. It was fun for a couple of hours but after that I was just ready to play the upgraded versions.
All the new memes in this episode!!

4:49 Oh yes it did introduce some new things! Retro Tracks, a ranking system and weather effects among others! HAH! How 'bout that, Scott?
I like how he said "Mario Kart for the Virtual Boy was in progress" and just took Super Circuit gameplay and made it red
