(I first saw this in 2008) It still boggles my mind that you can sell shot glasses in places where alcohol references are inappropriate by claiming they're toothpick holders. It's like watching someone successfully sneak into a place using a Groucho Marx disguise.

I think LootCrates were just assembled from the clearance bins at GameStops.
I wouldn't be surprised, honestly, if they buy in bulk from various retailers (i.e. GameStop, Hot Topic, Target), the inventory that just isn't selling. That way, Lootcrate gets the items for dirt cheap, and the brick-and-mortar retailers free up some shelf space. It's just business sense.

Like I got a mug I like to use, a hand towel I use all the time, some of my favorite shirts, a replica of a weapon from my favorite show, some awesome pins, a journal, a wallet, a book for my collection that is based off of Final Fantasy Type 0, and a ton of other shit.

I remember hearing. That Lootbox was purposely putting in better items for first-time users. In an effort to make it seem more valuable to consumers and help make them keep the subscription.

That Borderlands mousemat is from the June 2015 crate, theme was... Cyber, I believe. I was gifted a 3 month subscription for my nineteenth birthday, and that was the first one I ever opened. I am still using that exact mousemat at this very moment.

from my experience, the more specific the crate the better experience youll have. a general lootcrate would have a bunch of shit you dont care about, but with the hello kitty lootcrate i was happy with everything i got

Lootcrate was the best early on before they decided to do a million other crates. I joined right before they branched out too quickly and had cool themes and my favorite crate was Attack on Titanfall (I don't remember exactly what was in it, but I remember it had the first AoT manga volume).

It's weird how we are officially outside the era of constant loot crate ads and even raid shadow legends to an extent, it's mostly mobile RPGs now I think
That and Opera GX for some reason.
I cancelled my loot crate after they started to branch off with different creates. Their basic box was literally just clearance items from gamestop. I have fond memories of being excited each month for my box to arrive but towards the end it was just "let's see what crap I get this time". needless to say, I don't regret my decision.
That pretty much mirrors my sister's experience with them too; once in a while she'd get a decent t-shirt that was actually her size or a figurine one of her sons was into but most of the stuff she got was just leftover convention swag that no one wanted or stuff she passed over at GameStop a dozen times when shopping with her sons.

There used to be an awesome box named BOBOS that did this sort of thing. It was legitimately the best subscription box around imo and the couple times I got it I got truly amazing stuff. It was run by a couple and they would go out to conventions and everything to get specific things you were interested in.
