After this episode aired, Biden in an interview declared that if the IDF goes ahead with an assault on Rafah (which seems to have started), the US will stop delivering offensive weapons to Israel (which seems to also have started with the latest delivery of 3500 bombs being halted). Maybe Biden is following through with his line not to be crossed with real actions. Hopefully he does more because he needs to act immediately as civilians are dying by the hour (just saw reports of IDF artillery firing shells into populated areas of Rafah, killing civilians including children, depressingly horrifying).
I also saw an on the street interview at an Israeli protest, with an aunt of one of the Israeli hostages who was demanding that Netanyahu's war cabinet immediately accept the peace deal that Egypt and Qatar have gotten Hamas to agree to. And she's right.

From my small, first and only direct experience with Al Jazeera, they were the only news org on the ground in Belgrade in 2016, when I taught refugees there Survival English. It was super cold, everyone was hungry. That news org at least made us, the volunteers and those we were trying to help, feel visible. Later, yeah, Everyone arrived. The money too. But in the early bitter months, it was only Al Jazeera. And I'd never heard of them before.

Thanks so much for the Gaza updates. Love Ben and love Ali. Thank you, Ali, for pointing out that Oct 7 was not the start of the horror. Glad I'm not the only one who has NO idea wtf Biden is trying to do.
I'd so appreciate it if you help us sort through unending confusion on a few points:
    1) Is there any evidence that Netanyahu (via Trump, the Saudis, and other intermediaries) is behind Hamas funding- going back several years? 2) are we now playing semantic games over the word "invasion" when it comes to Rafah? - sanctioning whatever horrors Israel is unleashing there as long as we don't call it an invasion? As long as we don't use the word "invasion" for Israel's assault on Rafah, Biden and Co. can pretend their red line is still intact 3) Some big report on humanitarian crisis/war crimes etc was supposed to be released today- commissioned by the US. Then we abruptly heard that it's been indefinitely delayed. Why? It seems as though they're hiding something pretty horrific.

I have been pleasantly surprised by Joe's policies and how much he has accomplished. But I don't get Biden's opinion on this. The only thing I can think is that he has always been a firm supporter of the Israeli people and Jews, as well as the Israeli project. I can only imagine that he sees the Israeli people and Netanyahu as he thinks the rest of the world saw the American people and the Trump presidency. Not the same at all. Countries get duped into shitty leaders, it doesn't mean the people are inherently bad. Netanyahu has an 18% approval rate in Israel. There really is a sick anti-Semitic strain that has always plagued Jews. Hamas did a stupid, obscene crime on Oct 7, and because of Israel's bad faith leadership by Netanyahu and others, it makes sense that some Palestinians could be radicalized, when they aren't being given self determination. All these things can be true at once. The bottom line is that America can provide defensive weapons without bombs that will be used on civilians and Biden can separate Israel from Netanyahu. The US has a very tight election coming (Can you see why other countries might write us off, because we have many millions of Trump supporters ready to vote for him) And while Biden will likely win the popular vote, the electoral college gives Republicans an unfair advantage and comes down to just thousands of votes. I fear that Gaza concerns will be very quickly forgotten when we are seeing the Mexican deportation camps being built, and underground railroads for American dissidents to escape to Canada, just like The Handmaid's Tale...

Netanyahu called very strongly for his predecessor, Yitzak Rabin, to be assassinated because Rabin supported a two-state solution. Rabin had been one of the terrorists who originally established Israel, so was hardly a leftist softy. After he WAS assassinated the Israelis voted in Netanyahu. They knew exactly who and what they were getting.

This is the best Crooked Media podcast. PSA's glazing of Biden despite how poorly he is handling this situation, and weird focus on antisemitism, is driving me away from that pod. This one is far more informative and objective.

I had the same reaction, especially on that episode with Miller. Weird focus on alleged antisemitism in campus protests, that ends up parroting the same talking points used by the actual antisemites on the right. It's obscene as it validates rhetoric used by the same politicians that host actual neo-nazis and wouldn't mind mind filling an administration with them. Add to that all the benefit of doubt afforded to Biden as if his hand wringing was effectual in any degree and I'm done. I'm done with ifs and maybes, and give us more time to assess the situation, and Biden's angry this or concerned that. It's a genocide, face it. Face the ugly truth and say it.

    "Justin Trudeau still exists" 🤣
Justin Trudeau failed Canadians almost immediately after getting elected when he reneged on his campaign promise of electoral reform. The nature of Canadas influence in global affairs was steered through a variety of global crises as the result of this failure on Trudeaus part, and probably for the worse. Trudeau represents the type of left-leaning politics that can't achieve substantive change that isn't already mostly inevitable. You put a Trudeau in charge to maintain a status quo, and the status quo from before Trudeau was not in favor of the people of Canada.
The conservative option is even worse, so he's got that going for him, but the lack of electoral reform means that the NDP couldn't win elections, so the Liberals just cemented the ideology of Canada for a decade in favor of corporations while fostering an environment of performative activism.

7:15 "The sad part" ? Still a bias towards the hostages, when every few days as many more Palestinians are killed as there are hostages left. Even Velshi has this racist bias towards the hostages and muted feelings about the suffering of "Arabs".
