The cutscenes in this game look particularly great, considering the era.
After playing the arcade version from namco museum arcade pac, it's an enhanced version though the arcade lets you take on more bad guys. Genesis had a badass secret agent password system 1:06 more weapons (flamethrower was nice) and cutscenes.
Challenge mode was a great 3 mins in namco arcade. 3:38 snesdrunk goofed. Rolling thunder 3 is 1 player so not more everything. You can shoot diagonally so it's solid. Also, namco arcade is $30 on switch with other games and rolling thunder 1 and 2 arcade and save states.
As a head's up, the Genesis versions might not be available, but the "Namco Museum" on Switch includes the original arcade versions of Rolling Thunder 1 and 2.
I got the Namco museum thing + the new Pacman game bundle mainly for the Pacman game, and then the arcade games were just a bonus, but I didn't really like the Rolling Thunders. But I only played them for like 10 mins. I didn't know how highly regarded they were so I'm gonna try and play them for a good solid chunk of time, learn them properly. The new Pacman thing is so much fun though. It's worth getting that bundle. It's still just Pacman but the presentation is so cool
"Any way you can"
I like the genesis port better than the arcade
*laughs in already having the PS1 Namco Museum games on my android*
I have that on Switch yet had no idea that this game ever had a Mega Drive port
Now you HAVE to do Rolling Thunder 3!
Never understood taking out the 2-player option in RT3. Especially when you can unlock the girl to play as. So it wasn't a memory limitation which would have been the only reasonable reason to cut the option.
RT3 isn't half the game RT2 is, IMO - and not just because its a single player experience. It's almost devoid of the charm RT2 has and the soundtrack is painfully generic in comparison. It's no classic.
It's more or less a way to keep continuity. I've never played 3 so I'd like to see it at least.
Whoo! Love SNES Drunk in the morning.
Richard Willes besides a nice tug at my taffy, snes drunk is the best part of my morning
@@fentanelfloyd8383 😂
Segadrunk lol
The Arcade version of Rolling Thunder 2 is available on Nintendo Switch on the Namco Museum collection!
Would you believe my stepdad actually found this game when I was growing up was one of our favorite games we played together
Namco really knew how to program for the Genesis/MD. This is definitely one of their best! This was the only arcade port of the game that truly mattered. The music and cutscenes were absolutely amazing.
This was the only arcade port of this game, period.
Rolling Thunder came first, then Shinobi. The more you know..
I always felt like this series was a natural progression from Elevator Action.
elevator action 2 was a much better game to be honest....
@@EpicLebaneseNerd There is a Japan only release on the Saturn which is fun to play.
Get the Taito arcade collection 2 for PS2, it's still cheap and easy to find, it has Elevator Action 2 on it along with other classics, the first arcade collection has earlier Taito games along with the original Elevator Action
@@CaptAwesumNo1Zone It's actually been re-released recently on all the current systems, including steam and switch. It's got tons of options to play how you want including rewind and speed settings, as wells as multiple difficulty settings to separately tinker with damage and overall difficulty.
What’s the yellow enemy doing to that statue at 0:52?
David Bradbury Haha! That's a hilarious coincidence, since I think he's just doing his wait animation but it looks very suggestive for sure
Good eye bro! That's funny stuff
I didn't notice that but I did notice the statues. I had to look very close to see that they are wearing bikinis, but still... Sega sure weren't the puritanical zealots that Nintendo was. Let's just put these big breasted statues in bikinis right in the foreground. That'll get the teen's attention.
he is recording one of those hot glue videos
Polishing it?
thanks for giving this series a shout, always one of my faves. something you didn't mention is that RT2 is two-player co-op, while RT3 is not. so its not EVERYTHING i would want from a sequel. makes RT2 the superior game if (like me) you collect cartridgess for the express purpose of couch co-op.
Oh, crap. That's quite a downgrade. I wonder why...
I played this game for the 1st time a few months ago and really impressed by it.
Total length of video: 285 secs.
Total length of "SEGA Drunk": 3.5 secs.
1.23% of the video was spent listening to "SEGA Drunk."
And Epstein didnt kill himself
No word on the game intro cutscene? It looks freaking awesome!
I didn't knew that the arcade game Rolling Thunder had sequels until I played them back in the day. BTW Rolling Thunder 3 was only released in the USA (No European or Japanese release).
Some pople think that the Rolling Thunder games are the inspiration for the Time Crisis games.
If Codename Viper got a SNES sequel it could've beaten the Rolling Thunder games.
This is one of my personal favorite sega genesis games. I remember I first played this game with my cousin when we were kids along with el viento and I loved it. I still play these games today. The soundtrack is phenomenal and the game play is totally awesome. I definitely recommend this game
Was thinking about picking this up but wasn't sure, however your review has made me decide to hunt it down!
The walk cycles in this game crack me up, especially any time you enter a door
The original rolling thunder had those long legs lol
Another great video man great job
This was one of the best Genesis games I owned. Two player, great graphics, great game play, just great all around. I always wondered why I never got part three till I watched a video like this and saw it was only one player for some reason. This was a favorite to play with my friend growing up. Most two player games at the time were beat'm ups. Which I loved but this was something different and fun.
Thanks for another awesome video!! (I hope you now review Rolling Thunder 3!)
This is my new favorite gaming videos find. I will not stop till I watched them all.
Love watching your videos including your old ones(please do Tengai Makyou Zero review it's a good jRPG for the SNES)
This amazing game gets insanely tough if you manage to make it to the second loop. Great review.
First game I ever remembered. That intro music before levels is forever in my memories
I got curious about RT 2 after hearing about it in a SNES Drunk video from last week. Looked it up and this was the top video lol
SEGADRUNK !! Excellent way to start the morning!
I love the Rolling Thunder series!
It is worth playing imo, pretty challenging game with great tunes & a decent storyline. One of my favorite games ever.
Got a lot of good memories of me & my big bro playing it.
Rolling Thunder 1 holds the record for the most colorful evil minions ever. Seriously, their uniforms include no less than 4 bright, high-contrast, clashing colors.
I love the look of RT1 much better.
Going into doors for money or health like that reminds me of Codename: Viper on NES.
Looks fun
Uhhh your name is snes drunk not genesis drunk lol. love the vids man
As a snes collector your videos have helped me pass on games and turn me on to games I never knew about. Keep up the good work. And game on!!!
Great series of games - can't go wrong here.Rolling Thunder 3 next then please! My personal fave.
Those games were great to play I technically only played the arcade and snes versions mega drive looks awesome I gotta try that one great vid 👍
Before I even watch, YES. This game is a masterpiece of the side scrolling shooter genre.
Great Stuff!
Good video! I always enjoyed the Rolling Thunder series. I think that the first one for nes is the closest to my heart though, not because I think it's a better game, but more less for the nostalgic factor for me. I remember I spent hours as a kid going back and forth between Rolling Thunder, Vindicators, and Image Fight. I never could finish any of the 3😂.....especially Vindicators. I mean geez! That game gets really hard in the later levels.
it should be noted for anyone who is interested, while the Genesis version has not seen re-release, the original arcade versions of 1 and 2 are playable on the Namco Museum on switch
That logo is ICONIC
Rolling thunder 2 is lit. Very fun as coop but in terms of single player I like 3 more. The music here is better but 3 always fascinated me. It only came out in North America and it introduced little mechanics that made it slightly more enjoyable to go through. I recommend picking up a copy if u haven’t already.
Loved the idea of using an adlib as password!
One of my favourite mega drive games 👍👍👍👍
Rolling Thunder 2 and Rolling Thunder 3 are amazing on the Genesis. I'd put them both in my top 10 Genesis games along with the Shinobi and Golden Axe series 👍
The original 8-bit NES did a good job porting the arcade to their home console as well.
I loved Rolling Thunder 2 back in the day. Even having once owned an arcade cabinet of RT1, RT2 was the kind of good that's pleasantly unexpected. Between the cinematic look to the catchy dramatic music, it feels like what a Lupin the 3rd videogame adaptation should be. I only wish RT3 was more of the same, but the music lacked the drama its predecessor had, making it feel like an Indiana Jones movie without a John Williams score. No disrespect to whoever did compose RT3, but after RT2 happened, a Rolling Thunder game without Ayako Saso as composer doesn't feel like a Rolling Thunder game.
Awesome! Please do STARFLIGHT for Sega Genesis. It's an amazing game. I'm about 40 hours in and still not bored
Good find, Drunk
Worth noting as well (especially for anyone playing on the switch) that the MD/Genesis port is slightly remixed from the arcade original, with extra stages and new bosses.
That garth brooks joke almost cost you your thumbs up 😆😆😆
the anime cutscenes, the nude statues, the 2 player mode , the nice guns...this game had it all, i think a game called CODENAME VIPER on NES had almost the same vibe....but nothing as cool as this.....there is also the SECRET AGENT game , was that part 3 ? and still, this game gave it's own vibe to elevator action 2 , and that is still one of my fave arcade games.
I loved rolling thunder in the arcade I never knew about this
I always expected dick tracy on genesis to pull of something like this. I like the game but rolling thunder has so much more variety.
Growen up with a Super Nintendo (and still playing with it), i've buyed an Mega Drive two Years ago, this was the first Game i found to buy and i was surprised, how much Fun it is, cause i've never ever heared from it before.
The Password System makes it a fair Deal getting through.
Will be playing TODAY
Looks like something to get after you've had your fill of Sunset Riders
I loved the rolling thunder series when I was a kid, it needs a remake for real🙌🏽💯💯
I got into the Rolling Thunder series several years back and picked up an import copy of this one because I loved it so much. It was a pleasant surprise. It's one of my favorite games on the Genesis. Funny that I've seen it left off of "best of" lists for the system as it's gone under the radar for a lot of people. It's a very good port, but Namco made some significant changes from the arcade, mostly in terms of the level design, and I believe they added stages. I think the changes make the Genesis version better than the arcade version. It's fun, but gets tough while still being fair as it is beatable. It's very good. Namco's games at the time on the system tended to be really good.
the original arcade version is on Namco Museum on the Switch.
I remember this game called rolling bird, a tribute to rolling thunder, but the enemy respawn rate was pretty fast.
Rolling Thunder series is criminally underrated
This has GOT to be related to Code Name: Viper on NES. This looks awesome. Like a 2 player version of CN:Viper.
Great game and the arcade one is good fun too.
Nice, Snesdrunk did it i can't believe it
Segadrunk, it finally happened, i feel like just going outside and running down the street shouting out SNESDRUNK does SEGADRUNK
I own this game and i like playing with the female, i like how shes killing the bad guys with high heels on
Rolling Thunder series is fantastic definitely due for a new game!
fyi, you said "men bade" instead of "been made" 4:02 youre awesome as usual though, and it fits the drunk part ;)
I played this and beat this game it took me a few days it was hard but super fun sadly snes fans missed out on this gem!!
3:12 Openning Title
One of the Genesis' best titles imo, definitely worth playing today!
The rest of my day just got greater.
The arcade music is even better overall.
Those passwords make really great song titles
heck yeah!! it's one of my favorite SEGA games, part 2 in particular because of it's cheesy opening stage setting and overall atmosphere thanks to it being one of the earlier titles.. part 3 has more "metallic" and futuristic feel to it, so it seems to have less varying stages, so I always preferred the second one :DD
Looks like a cross between Shinobi and Sunset Riders. Sweet
I still have it
I had no idea there was a Rolling Thunder 3 on any platform.
3:03 sounds like something from Splatterhouse 2.
Yes it's worth playing. i was just playing it again a few weeks ago.
This game is awesome.
Cannot go wrong with some Rolling Thunder.
My favorite game 🎮
Who is Will?, why would you fire at him?. First day off in a week. This video was a good start. Thanks Drunk
Morning coffee with the drunk one
This game reminds me of shadow dancer. Shadow dancer is one of those rare ports that's better on the Genesis than in the arcade.
Chelnov, Eswat and Thunderforce III come to mind as more that were better than their arcade versions. There are probably quite a few more.
@@Fattydeposit ninja spirit is another one imo.
The PC Engine / TG-16 port? That's interesting. Great game but I don't know the OG or the home port enough to know this..
@@Fattydeposit Yes, I'm talking about the TG16 port. I played through it a couple months back. At first I tried to play through the arcade version but it is ridiculously hard (and I got the 2all on Last Resort this week). The graphics on the the TG16 are almost as good as the arcade and the enemy placement is superior.
Reminds me of Code Name Viper for the NES. Or was it SNES, I can't remember.
Great game for the Sega Genesis.
Okay... Best password system since Indiana Jones on SNES and the NES Mega Man, in my humble opinion.
Music is pretty good
There has to be a name for this genre, right? I'm talking specifically about the Rolling Thunders, Shinobis, E-swats, Codename Viper, Thunder Fox, etc. Like, it was a whole style separate from Castlevania, Mega Man, or Contra. "Shinunder"? "Rollinobi"?
Elevatorthundernobi-vania
Have you covered *Elevator Action Returns* on this channel? These games seem very similar to each other.
am i the only one who thinks its basically Shinobi 1 with guns and a ton of doors?
Similar but not the same.
Shinobi is a much tighter game with zero fat, bosses, screen clearing bombs and obviously its own aesthetic. Not to mention Shinobi clearly took from the OG Rolling Thunder...but yeah, they're similar.. though I think the Elevator Action and Rolling Thunder series make more interesting points of comparison.
SunSoft has proven that it's easy to screw up an arcade port, so it's nice to see something like this. I will say, the way their legs move makes me think of when you put your first two fingers down and make them "walk", but really overall this looks pretty cool. That death animation is a nice touch, and it just looks like a good example of an arcade game that was made to be fun instead of just to eat quarters.
Lei~la! Got me on my knees!
Quite the cunning linguist around 0:50
Never got into this series but I did like Codename Viper on the NES which is pretty much a clone of Rolling Thunder
Is this game a little slower than the first one or am I misremembering the 'insert coin' screen from the arcade at the roller rink? The first game kicked my butt on arcade and NES, but I still loved it
Awesome game and series that no one seems to mention for some reason. Just more typical Gen library overlooking. 2 gets insane hard towards the very end of the game though, almost to a fault. But other than that it's a good one. 3 is also great and overall a successful sequel but I prefer the sound efx in 2.
This games are great
The gameplay reminds me of shinobi but with agents and guns instead of ninjas.
How did you like the new Best of the Worst?
Anyone else getting X-Men animated series theme song vibes from the last song in the video?
SNEEEEEEEEES DRUNK
ITS ALWAYS SNEEEEEEEEES DRUNK YOU DUMBASS
This game must have inspired Daytona somehow!
