Art is absolutely a draw for me. I won't have any interest in buying a game with art I don't like (I may still play it, but it's not getting added to my collection), but I'll also not keep a pretty game that ends up being a bad/not fun game. Essentially I'm a theme first gamer because I need the theme to help me learn the rules, and art absolutely helps with that. Lost Ruins of Arnak was the very first board game I bought when I decided to start my own collection and it remains one of my favorite games. Every aspect of it is incredibly thematic, shockingly beautiful and I absolutely love seeing it set up on the table.
There is a game coming out this year called Video Game Champion (the game is currently out in Brazil). In the game you are trying to become the best video gamer in your neighborhood, and there are tons of cards which represent the video games, all drawn to look like a Super Nintendo box cover. It’s absolutely fantastic!
I lost respect for Jakub after the tracing controversy. The illustrations in Scythe were traced collages and the concept was ripped from Dust Tactics. People have found lots of examples i.imgur.com/uCgNtjL.jpg I also didn´t like the way Jamey dealt with the issue basically saying he investigated the issue and there was nothing there which clearly isn´t the case.
Wonderful video, wonderful picks! I was waiting for Jamey’s #1, hoping/expecting it to be Andrew Bosley, who is without any doubt my top board game artist. I’m so happy with the art book I have from Everdell and some art prints I have. Other than everything Andrew does, I love the classic Beth Sobel art, the immersive Ryan Laukat art, and the whimsical art from Elise Plessis, who illustrated the Oniverse series (Onirim and co). Oh and so many more, but I gotta stop somewhere. 😄
Art is essential for me to enjoy a board game. I’m incredibly visual and tactile in my desire my board gaming experience. Andrew Bosley, Vincent Dutrait, Kwanchai Moria, Beth Sobel, and The Mico are all artists that appeal to me. Merchants of the Dark Road is another by Andrew Bosley that I really love. Another game that I love the art on is Solar 175 which has a blade runner feel. Anyway, thank you for sharing and discussing this fun topic.

I love the art in Scythe, Meadow, Arkham Horror and lots of the Magic the Gathering art (I have books on the MTG art).

Andrew Bosley. Just love his work wherever I see it. Arnak is a great choice. Scythe. The Mico's stuff with Garphill.
Manny Trembley is an artist that can make a game LOOK fun even when I have no idea how it’s played.
I agree with you on the Everdell. So lovely and brings that warm feeling to the table you get when watching anthropomorphic animals in animation.
For me: 1. Jackub Rozalski (Scythe) 2. Ian O’Toole (Lisboa). Andrew Bosley (Everdell) 4. Beth Sobel (Viticulture) 5. Xavier Collete (Obscurio)

I know Ryan Luakat isn´t the best artist in terms of craft but his art is always amazing and makes me want to play his games.
Mysterium Park and Floriferous both have great art! And love Manny Tremblay's work
