- WATCH this VLOG series as we head on out to the southern ocean to fish for Southern Rock Lobster here in Tasmania.
Onboard the commercial fishing vessel Chieftain a 17.5m/57ft steel Tasmanian built vessel now 23 years old run by a Cummins NT855.
Thank you everyone for liking and subscribing. We are new to this UA-cam video stuff so its very rough, as you can expect things will get a lot smoother as this series progresses and into the future.
Apologies for Audio quality I am slowly getting use to using the microphones.
NOTE; Here is a current scenario:
If I want to leave the wharf, with current prices
Quota is $34 per kg I need 1500kg at minimum that's $51,000 out of pocket already.
i now need Fuel which is $2.02 per liter i need 1500L = $3000
i am at $54,000 still haven't left
i best get some Bait for the pots $4 per kg i need 1500kg= $6000
food for crew and i $800 -$1000 for up to 2 weeks
now i can leave the wharf, I'm only $61,000 out of pocket.
CRAYFISH PRICE on return of 2 weeks at sea $55 PER KG
$55x1500kg = $82,500 take out my expenses before i left the wharf, I've got $21,500 left Lets not forget I haven't paid insurance, maintenance of vessel, repairs, lost or broken fishing gear, Bank repayments and superannuation.

Nice work. Some good clunkers there. We used to call that pointy little rock on the inside of the nuggets, the Can Opener!
I can see why! Haha I won't lie. That trip to Flinders made me feel like I might have a tighter arse. Haha few close calls
Boat looks very clean as always Lochie must have been busy 😂
@stevenblack3092 that's because he is always cleaning 😉 haha
Welcome back safety comes first 👍
How is lochie? Is the new deck hand to help Lochie?
You need a light source above your pots at night when emptying 😊😊
@ScottGarlick-g8j it seems like that on camera but in person we have plenty of light
Thank you for your great footage and effort it is greately appreciated and enjoyed.
@@thorpedersen1787 thanks heaps for watching.
I'm a lobster, man from Maine and we are happy to get 6 or 8 a pound for lobster but in winter when u can't catch, ,many and u have to have a 40 foot boat to even go far snuff off shore we get like 10 to 12 a pound. But I enjoy watching u guys and would love to go down under and go with u guys for a trip. And love u guys boats as well. And respect u guys as well u have good drive and grind them traps to get what u need for lobster. Keep up the good work guys and be careful and safe out there
