This is a totally awesome video Mary. I will be using your tips in preparation to harvest an owl I found today (car kill). Want to be sure to use what he left behind for me. Good Medicine from Wind River
So you don’t remove any flesh from the wing bone, just let it dry? Ive had them get stinky this way so usually remove the bigger wing muscles and then fold the skin and feathers back over the bone before pinning and drying.
I realize that - At the time I did not have a way to video myself doing it! I need a videographer or some better kind of set-up for that :/ But I did describe exactly where to detach the wing.
Hi! I talk about where to store it for preservation in the video. sure, it could be outside- as long as protected from the elements and from other animals that could potentially disturb it.
Thank you for this beautiful video and for sharing this sacred process. Do you cover the entire wing in borax while in the box? Or just the fleshy parts?
I have a small question. What if in the process of salt drying the wings the cardboard absorbes the moisture and it creates mold. I don't have access to borax here where i live so i salt dried few wings, and after months of waiting i opened the box and and i see mold on the wings. It is dry and in shape but there is mold thanks to the cardboard. I just wanted to ask from a person who propably knows more than me. Is it possible to save the wings or do i need to accept my inevitable destiny and trow them away in the nature to decompose naturally? I apreciate any help i can get!
It depends how deep the mold went into the wing. You could definitely try to clean it very well with a strong essential oil cleaning solution. Im sorry that happened… Its always important to make sure it stays very DRY
This was such an informative and helpful video! I love working with bird spirits as part of my spiritual path too! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this sacred ceremonial process
💛
It was and is my joy. Love you Pyasa Ma!

I have never what you suggest and they have come out just fine. The only bird I have had challenges with has been a turkey vulture- (with smell)
The most important part, you didn't video how you cut the wing away from the body.

where do you dry it? Can it be dried outside in the summer in a hot dry climate?

there is no need to cover the entire wing- just the fleshy parts and where there is bone (because there would be flesh attached to the bone)
