Baldurs Gate 1 AND 2 😁 I will never forget how many times i've heard - You must gather your party before venturing forth! 😂🖤
"Hug-a-Friend Adventure..." "Clown Hammer..." and "Don't mind my sinus infection.." Splat you were on fire...pure gold.
18:09 That flail reminds me of the Battle of Sudoměř during the Hussite Wars.
The bit just past 25 minutes where the cart casually mulches the wounded guy lying in the mud did a lot to sell the brutal, gore-soaked, indifference to human life.
You expect the brooding dude who turns into a demon to rip someone apart with his glowing claws at some point; you don't expect the hapless target of the escort mission to not even slow down while executing the weak and the broken.
For a pre-alpha, this is pretty good. Much better than other early alphas.
Setting : "Set in the Ottoman empire, a veteran returns after a decade spent as a slave only to find their homeland of Carpathian unrecognisable. Ravaged by a hellish plague and is also dealing with the reign of a king driven mad."
Thanks, really nice to see comments like this!
I laughed out loud and woke up my dog at 'don't mind my sinus infection' lol
If Beast takes place in 1510, then this is no longer the Medieval period, because that ended in 1453 when Constantinople fell. This is early Renaissance. Still, it's refreshing to see Pike & Shoot era.
It's 1593. You're right. It's Renaissance era. But we like to call it the dark ages, to put more emphasis on the atmosphere of the game
Finally pike and shot. Not enough in this era.
Thank you for this information bud, i didnt know about Constantinopla
@@beastvideogame The Dark Ages is yet another name for the Middle Ages, so it can be misleading for some people. Just call it grimdark/gritty/realistic/hardcore. Warhammer Dark Fantasy goes with very similar themes.
@@lothiaskane2614or make your own game and call it that.
"you may not rest here, either find an inn or rest elsewhere" 😄👌
Game looks well started, looks like it could come out great 👍👍!
Black Death with Sean Bean might be the movie referenced at the end. It was well made for a low budget film and well worth a watch if you like the setting.
So good! He has so many good movies that are relatively unknown😊
That was one of our top5 references ❤❤❤
Absolutely, right as he said it I was like "prolly black death". Awesome that I am not the only one with this thought
@@sicotic2897 in our game there is a fictional plague motif in the background, a combination of black death and rabies.
Really appreciated how the environments were so elaborate and not "cut and paste" like a lot of games. I am an American with Hungarian heritage so maybe the aesthetic and background just naturally appeal to me. Looks like a great start and can't wait to see what becomes of this. Developer: Listen to Splat! He knows what makes good games. But I'm sure you know that because you sent him your game :)
That's nice! Pole and Hungarian brothers be
so you are pratically vlad tepeş or dracula and fight against ottomans and impale them. with some supernatural vampire powers too probably
Now this looks dope, those executions! Definitely going into my wishlist.
Thanks! 🙏 👍
I think you know someone from the Carpathian Mountains region of Transylvania. Vlad III. Drăculea known as Count Dracula. It is in Romania.
TBF, Carpathians stretch from southern Poland, through Czehia, Slovakia, hook a bit of Ukraine, Moldavia, ending in Hungary and Romania. So Carpathian, just means "anything we want it to be."
@@lucidnonsense942 heh the game is about journey through the Carpathian mountains, from Maramures / Northern Transylvania Principality to Cracow. We tried to mark out a possible travel route based on old maps ;)
How to turn a game into a amazing laughing comedy xD. Dude i love your video so much.
16:40 Carpathia as in the Carpathian mountains in Romania where Vlad Tepes lived in Wallachia and famously fought the Ottoman empire.
19:18
that horse just trampled a dude
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
Looks promising. Had to check out their Trailer as you mentioned Black Metal sounds in it. Indeed. Батюшка, a polish Black Metal Project, had a song playing during the trailer. Kudos for that.
17:33 "6 bullets on this guy's boy"
The bonking was hilarious. Very nice level art BTW, it really manages to transport you to another time and place.
Thank you! We did our best to faithfully reproduce the atmosphere of those times
For as much as Splat seems well versed in historical weapons, I can't believe he doesn't know that a gun axe is in fact a real weapon from the 1700s.
The combination of weapons and gear leads me to believe that this game is created by a Polish developer.
You're right, we're from Poland
@@beastvideogame cześć bracie. My family came from Krakow. I can always tell polish developer from the look. I'm going to wishlist on steam.
@@HeadCannonPrime cześć!
love your stuff Splatizimo
Still lovin the content, regardless of the dry season. I rolled over to twitch the other day (to find out I can't log in any more), and was quite surprised. You don't look as I imagined. Regardless, love the references, all the jokes, all of it. You do a phenomenal (doo doo doodoodoo) job. Keep it up.
"You don't look as I imagined."
ikr?
no horns, no beard, full sized, almost like he was an actual human.
This one seems very interesting. Love dark medieval stuff.
Ha! I really liked the *splort!* when you did run over one of the downed peasants with the wagon. No mercy to be had for that peasant!
7:36 Contrived weaponry? EXCUSE YOU SIR THE GUN AX WAS REAL AND DESERVES RESPECT
Great vid btw.
Looks great for being this early!
Never enough of these kinds of games... although I say that having several collecting dust in my library because I never have time lol.
Hell yeah!
"I dont even know what Carpathia is"
"Did this guy just hit me with a nunchuck?"
Classic 'Murican. Meh. Pumped for the game though, we dont get enough games from that era and the art style is just stunning.
Miss those times too Splatty :(
BTW : Carpathian Mountains are a mountain range in East and Central Europe and its famous for the many folklore tales it has inspired.
When Splat mention the game's trailer contain something like black metal's blastbeat, I immediately open a new tab and look for it. And found that they feature the fxxking Батюшка's song (the true one, Христофор's) ! It's definitely a huge respect point from me, absolutely wishlist item.
FYI for those who dont know but interested in, Batushka(Батюшка) is a polish metal band, they use orthodox as their theme, and their lyrics are actually orthodoxy sermon and something like that, while their music are like those evil sounding black metal with quite a bit of occultist vibe, and hence the contrast between these is the attractive part of this band. This band is so orthodox that they even have their own "schism" : the sole composer/creative force of the band Христофор got fired by other band members who did not even took part in the creative process, and that lead to 2 version of this band; and after some law suit and stuff, Христофор's got judged as no right to name his project as "Batushka" (the original name), thus he just continue with the cyrillic version of the name Батюшка, while "the stolen one" keep on their work with the original title Batushka creating something quite far away from what the band originally was.
Krzysztof Drabikowski BATUSHKA ;)
This looks cool
added to my wishlist on steam.
Thanks!
Interesting!
Thanks for the great videos Splat
Splatt, I’ve always been curious…do you ever come back to these games once you do your review vids, aside from the ones you regularly stream?
The PoV (point of view) of this game is what i've always wanted to see in rpgs - isometric with zoom and rotation - don't know how common it really is since I haven't played a lot of games in like 20 years, but this particular iteration looks nicely intuitive.
You can zoom out, zoom in, rotate and move the gameplay camera. We want to give the players as much freedom as we can. There are also close-ups during moments of action. And a third-person camera during cutscenes. Some cutscenes are realtime and others are pre-rendered in the game engine.
Nice job I say. I envisioned something like this literally over 20 years ago, though you guys have gone a step farther with the close-ups and cut scenes.
I always like the rotation and extreme zoom to ground level where you can see the sky/horizon. I hate when the screenshots and ads show ground level like that but in the actual game it can't be done.
I want to see Splatt do Party Animals lol
The movie you're thinking of is The Black Death.
7:31 Gun axes were an actual thing...
Omg! Its available in early access now on steam, nice! ❤🎉 Is the discount until today only?
Yes, -20% only till Nov 1
Carpathia is in Romania..Transylvania region...home of vampires
im always going to call that a doink hammer from now on 😅
Given the second battle I think this is actually set in medieval Russia, and those first guys were probably Mongols, particularly the Golden Horde which ruled over Russia with an iron fist for quite a long time.
That's a pretty common look for Tartars and Caucasus people, as well as a lot of central Europe at the time. Was also adopted in P-LC to some extent. Honestly, looks like P-LC/Ottoman marches most of all.
Game is set in early modern era 1593.
The first three tutorial missions are set near the Black Sea Coast, North side of the Ottoman Empire. The fourth mission is set in the Carpathian Mountains, specifically in the Maramures region
@Splat is the movie you're thinking about "Season of the Witch"?
Really nice movie
Ohhhh the gunaxe depicted was a real thing in the Ottoman arsenal. you can look it up. They have some at museums here in europe. Problem was, they in realety sucked at both things theyy where intendet to do. Like they became way to heavy and gripcenterd for the use of an battle axe, and because of being used as an axe, the gun often became inacurat. So they barly saw any action and where mere status simbols for the "rich kids" of the time.
Can't say no to this ;) the Gunaxe in reality is just another cool weapon
@@beastvideogame I do not disagree. It was a realy cool weapon. Even if it was almost usless. It had style. And i would rather buy one of these bad boys than a modern day rifle/gun/whatever.
26:32 It's funny how he always describes the sounds of games but doesn't let us hear them.
I appreciate the Mama Boucher reference.
By the way, are you sure he doesn't just have an enlarged medulla oblongata? 🤣
Is that Joe Rogan in the thumbnail
actually, gun axes were a thing. they kind of represent the transition period between swords and guns.
The Gunaxe is not a very practical weapon in reality but we like this kind of fiction that you can shoot and hit with the same thing in the hand ;)
The Coachman had a rifle >.
Looks further along than Pantheon.
Wishlisted
Small correction, gunblades are in ff8 not ff7. Please dont ban me 😊
Carpathia is where Vigo is from...
Woah, dude. Listen. What you do with your Earhole in the privacy of your home is your own business.
.....you know the guy on the wagon has a rifle right?
Igor the Coachman rifle is quite powerful, it's a Blunderbuss
Hmm... The characters were not named after ottomans, they were with Slavic names and they were fighting mongols(speaking of the first fight.), Ottomans did fight mongols, but why the Slavic names...
Dark Medieval as in "very dark palette".
Agre
❤
The guy on the picture looks like joe rogan
Turn-based combat may not resonate with me, but I can still appreciate the devs' efforts to make the mechanic more robust.
🖤
13th Warrior?
Nice movie!
Wait…so if my insanity meter fills up I turn into a crappy 90’s band?
"Everything these days is like a hug a friend adventure about growing corn and bringing a community together" 😂 So well said. And yeah there's a major paucity of dark RPGs aimed at mature adults. We're well and truly in the age of maximum marketability PG13 gaming.
Blame the success of "Bright souls" which influenced the action-RPG genre with its bright colors and cheerful tone, also "Brightest dungeon" for strategy - in AAA even the last Diablo was so damn happy and colorful...
7:28 Axe guns are a real thing, not fantasy.
this guy hating on gun axes, acting as if they where made up most weird ff8 weapons where actually real weapons... there are boarding axes I think that had pistols on the hafts and also swords that had gun chambers at the end of them, the thought being I believe to fire it to make the blade wiggle and tear throw a body better. anyway good job at the more loaded schedule impressive.
Angry Joe Rogan in the thumbnail
Am I the only one seeing Joe Rogan in the thumbnail with a scar on his face 👀
nope first thing i saw was post-apocalypse Joe Rogan
Gun Axe's where a real thing🪓
Joe Rogan?

Pre alpha... so a tech demo
The tech demo is mostly before the prototype phase in the Pre-production stage. It's far behind the vertical slice. Pre-alpha means it's under production. After the vertical slice. Most features are completed, content is still in development.
@@beastvideogame i see, so my understanding of what a tech demo is was off base, see i thought a tech demo was "Here are the mechanics of the game, please disregard unfinished assets" but a tech demo is essentially "Here is a stage that shows the direction we want to go."
Today i learned, Thank you for the information, the game looks promising and i wish only the best!
Not interested playing the Ottomans. Gimme crusaders!
The Ottoman Empire is just the place of the action in the retrospective tutorial missions
imagine woking in this for years and then baldurs gate 3 launches and blows ur game out of the water lol
That would be great, thanks!
this game doesn't seem filled with the politics and ideology of the devs at least.
oh no, I am the first viewer.
Is not more like Polish. Guy look more like Polish ''szlachta'' guy.
Well, he can also be a cossack. But yeah, this game has some Wild Fields vibes also.
Yeah, there are the Polish noblemen in the game.
@@Adler87indeed, we have a Cossacks in game
@@beastvideogame Im hyped looks cool. Kinda like King Arthur. But with more interesting setting. You grab some stuff from Chrystian folklore and or Slavic? And what is origin/nationality of main character?
@@RedMcDevils the main character Anton Sabbados is from Carpathian Ruthenia. But his origin is unknown for now
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combination_weapons
Gun with axe was something more like normal... "Some of the first included the German axe-pistol, made in the central European region of Silesia. This weapon combined a flintlock pistol with a battleaxe" via Wiki
Love to see comments like this!
Ottoman Empire? In Valacchia? In 1500?
