Man, was wondering why I was always coming off second best with my speed flips at kick off - turns out I just wasn’t holding the joystick back the entire time. HUGE difference with such a simple step I was missing, appreciate it x
I’ve been practicing the speed flip for months now, no joke, and 1 minute after watching this I’m doing it almost every time. Not holding the stick directly opposite and dragging, instead holding it off center towards your flips direction made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Every video I watched multiple times wasted so much of my time and with this little 8 minute video, I got it down my FIRST TRY, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. Thank you so much Spook ❤️This should be the only speed flip tutorial on YT imo.
KEYBOARD USERS: Drive forward press left or right to angle yourself before trying the flip. The angle you start the flip is crucial because keyboard has more restricted movement than joystick. My air roll is bound to "Q" Get the angle then hold W,Q,A at the same time to start your flip then press s to cancel and hold shift to recover before touching back down. you press WQ and A because its the only way to keep your flip tight and prevents a wide flip. Unfortunately keyboard doesn't have the 360 degree motion so your initial flip will often be wider and less precise than on controller but i still win kickoffs with it all the time.
You can actually keep the flip tight by inputting a diagonal forward flip, and sliding your finger down from W onto S while you hold whichever side direction. You can land more efficiently if your universal air roll and powerslide are bound to the same key(mine is shift) by holding it, which gives that extra bit of rotation, and then the drift to land clean. *My inputs to speed flip left: jump -> W+A+jump(flip) -> S+A(cancel and hold left)+Shift(extra air roll to keep rotation tight and powerslide for smooth landing)* It's really consistent once you get the timings down, but make sure you hold all inputs in the last step till your car is fully on the ground or it *will* spin out.
I learned this crazy helpful speed flip tip for keyboard users. it will seriously change your entire game and blew my mind when I learned it. First, just start out by plugging in a controller. Second, use a controller. It's a pretty simple tip but it genuinely makes a huge difference
I just spent 2 hrs straight teaching myself how to do it with your help. TY. Pro tip : keep eyes on butt end of car while your doing, helps line up your boost. Also, instead of doing directional air roll, if you have free air roll and powerslide on same button, it helps when you "miss" to keep your direction going even if car is not facing the right direction. I described what seems to be the same thing you are describing in my comment a few minutes ago, I just elaborated for the people who may find it helpful.. is it the same thing you are talking about?
It is much easier. Only problem is you want you’re non directional air roll to be one of those bumpers to free you in the air. If not then you’re stuck airrolling only one direction. Now on to practice 😜
Love you vids. it actually teaches me different things like how i learnt to do a half flip from you in a day! I also became diamond 1 from siver 3 in a week thanks to you. you are the best!
I personally just hold air roll diag flip, cancel the just push up on the joy stick, holding air roll the whole way through the speed flip, saves having to worry about putting the sticks in the corners
My problem is it feels like there aren't any good kbm tutorials, so I just hold air roll and forward, flip and then instantly hold back to try and cancel
i can do it, but not consistently. U do a diagonal flip, cancel right away, and hold reverse + turn right a little bit and sometimes air roll a little bit. Its really hard to do consistently on kbm unfortunately cuz it requires so many button presses for 2 fingers.
A more consistent way to do the diagonal flip is hold directional air roll while holding straight up on the analog stick, and then double tap jump as fast as you can.. as soon as you double tap jump, hold down on the analog stick until your wheels are on the ground… If anyone needs help with this, I don’t mind showing you in discord.. Smile today, and love others!
Every step of this is important or you will have inconsistency… until you perfect this process, you should hold down power slide when you are landing. This is to ensure that you keep your momentum, and continue in the direction you intended to go. This can be done at any skill level. Don’t limit yourselves because someone says you should focus on the basics when you are at your current rank. I was called a smurf because I could speed flip when I was a silver.. It was within the first week I started playing the game (April 2020) Don’t be a smurf, but play like one, and you’ll keep improving.
There are also many uses for this mechanic (holding air roll right/left while hitting your double jump) … it’s either certainly rarely spoken about, but I’m thinking it’s because there’s a small percentage of people that know it exists. Consistent speed flips, consistently flicks in any direction, air dribbles, pre-flips, you name it .. this can be applied
Turns out I've been speed flipping this entire time without realising. The only thing I've been doing differently is cancelling down to the right but I've got consistent at it from over a year of doing it without thinking about it
Great question, you should boost through your speed flip right until when you land in front of the ball, by then you should be going supersonic so you can let go of boost and save ~4 on diagonal kickoffs, around ~12 on the slightly off center spawns, and ~24 on the straight up spawns
The rolling motion at the end to finish it off is in combination with non direction air rol , so instead of tapping the left or right airroll at the end you do that for the same thing. So it's not fluff, its just the same as that tap at the end but with non directional air roll. It was in App jacks tutorial which is a pretty good source I'd say. The benefit is that you'll drift automatically after so the landing is a little bit more forgiving.
Thanks, SpookLuke I learned to speed flip because of you I have a replay of it and u helped me even tho u use a controller and I use a computer i copied your movements and it helped a lot i am subbed👍👍👍👍
I discovered trick to make the speed flips even faster. Right before flipping or pressing jump the 2nd time, flick the joystick downwards then immediately back to diagonal up. This will ever so slightly put your car in the air in which u will speed up much faster when u flip. Just wanted to share :)
Two (major) mistakes in the video: 1. You can (and should) do a diagonal flip as close to front (rather than 30% as you said). So more like 10%. The reason you're getting sparks is that you cancel too slow + the next mistake. 2. You can only cancel the front part of the flip. You can't cancel the roll part of the flip. ( Watch ua-cam.com/video/pX950bhGhJE/v-deo.html ) Additionally, cancelling is not affected by sensitivity. All of this means that if you try to cancel on anything but pure down cancel, you're not cancelling hard/fast enough (which explains the 30% thing with the sparks). On some controllers this might work, but on others it wont, as you're not getting 100% down input. The proper way to cancel is just pure 100% down, whether its a front/side or diagonal dodge.
I found it easiest to practice these when I turned unlimited boost off. This is because you know how much boost you are using so it is more like a kick off in a real game
If you're doubting you're doing it correctly, do one of the workshop maps with shots you can only make by speeflipping. 90% of people will find they still can't do it perfectly lol

Turns out I've been speed flipping this entire time without realising. The only thing I've been doing differently is cancelling down to the right but I've got consistent at it from over a year of doing it without thinking about it
haha lol it straight up takes days and ima silver
@@nigga_kt9 Yeah, its actually quite a simple mechanic that naturally you will just start to do when you start reaching higher ranks
BRO THANK YOU I FINALLY TOUCHED THE BALL IN MUSTY TRAINING PACK
Thank you this was really helpful! Now my journey to champ continues!!!
Cool video, but you forgot an element, boost. What to do with boost?
Great question, you should boost through your speed flip right until when you land in front of the ball, by then you should be going supersonic so you can let go of boost and save ~4 on diagonal kickoffs, around ~12 on the slightly off center spawns, and ~24 on the straight up spawns
Thx bro, I actually kind of can speed flip now
I LOVE Y I JUST LEARNED SPPED FLIP FROM YOU ALL THE OTHERS WERENT HELPING ME WITH THEIR VIDEOS
This video is surprisingly very professional, great job!
Good content. I’m old. But my kid got me into this game.
I’m a Gold in 1v1. Trying to improve mechanics in general.
You explain things amazingly I haven’t gotten it yet but after watching your video a couple of times I think I’ll get it soon!
I’ve watched this a hundred times 😂. Almost got it. At the end I’m turning
Thanks, SpookLuke I learned to speed flip because of you I have a replay of it and u helped me even tho u use a controller and I use a computer i copied your movements and it helped a lot
i am subbed👍👍👍👍
??????????????????????????????????????????? what are you saying
I learned speed flip just before you posted this but this still helped for kickoffs thanks
Thanks a lot this has helped me a tone.keep up the great work
I need to learn how to speed flip right, now I know how thank you
I discovered trick to make the speed flips even faster. Right before flipping or pressing jump the 2nd time, flick the joystick downwards then immediately back to diagonal up. This will ever so slightly put your car in the air in which u will speed up much faster when u flip. Just wanted to share :)
Like all the pros do?
Nice vid bro keep it up👍🏻
Two (major) mistakes in the video:
1. You can (and should) do a diagonal flip as close to front (rather than 30% as you said). So more like 10%. The reason you're getting sparks is that you cancel too slow + the next mistake.
2. You can only cancel the front part of the flip. You can't cancel the roll part of the flip. ( Watch ua-cam.com/video/pX950bhGhJE/v-deo.html )
Additionally, cancelling is not affected by sensitivity.
Will the sparks slow the speed flip ?
Also, if the stick is moved down/down right/down left, the perfect cancel is exact upward/front ?
ty for specifying true north, I was using fool's north
I found it easiest to practice these when I turned unlimited boost off. This is because you know how much boost you are using so it is more like a kick off in a real game
Sad that KBM players are left out.. but I tired to take whatever I could.
Check my comment
I've been practicing speed flips for like 4 months amd I'm still learning how to get them down
