Hey man, very good tutorial! thank you very much for this, I have a couple of suggestions, your rocket boost doest not help visually to see the precise moment when you are boosting (3:00), it's too transparent. Also when you show side to side the wrong and bad kick off, It would be better if they play one first and then another, instead of showing them at the same tame. aye. this video is so misleading with exacts and blanket statements about right or wrong. His method may be fast, but its not controlled. It leaves no space or time to gauge the enemys kickoff and direct the ball to your back left or back right teammate. Its entirely a speed based kickoff with no control. as a c2/c3 I entirely contest this comments he makes in this video.
True, same i thought. In the most cases it´s better to hit the ball secondary. Also there are much more easier and safer ways to play and win kickoffs. If I watch all those videos on youtube about RL I ask myself why I ain´t doing videos....
I delay my kick offs to but if hes getting to the ball and I clearly see him fully controlling how he flips into it a second time, wouldnt he just hit it past you regardless.... he also mentions boost management so if you do lose a kick off you can get to it for defense
@@Tidusjames He literally said about 5 times during the video that there are other methods to kick offs that he would cover in another video, and that these tips were solely based on if you want to WIN the kickoff and get to the ball first. Listen before commenting!
I always use to start slow on purpose, then tap boost while driving without flips, and hit the ball a split second later in order to get that 2nd touch right after the opponent hits it, so it will bounce off me towards their goal. A solid 7/10 I would say.
Im plat and i know the speedflip. So its always so fun to just absolutely demolish my opponents. But then again there are the times where i fuck up the flip and miss completely
Oof, that jump kickoff whilst continuously boosting really grinds my gears. You lose so much control over the ball, it's so mind boggling how many player actively use it. I still see it happening when I am playing with my c2 mates. Very helpful tips for beginners and just solid fundamentals. Good job portraying it Wayton !
Your technique for the back centre kickoffs in 1s is best countered by boosting straight at the ball and front flipping before hitting it so that you hit it completely vertical. Your opponent gets the first touch but you will block his shot with a slight delay that most often results in the ball going over them. The ball will be in their half and they will have to cover a lot of ground to recover, giving you plenty of time to get boost and consider your options.
I've had quite a bit of success losing kickoffs on purpose but exposing the top of my car at the angle id like the ball to go. They hit it first but the ball goes where I'd like
if you make a part 2 you should show what kickoffs you should use to get the ball where you want like push it left or back right or stop it for a cheat really good vid btw
I doubt you haven't learned this by now, but just in case (and so others may have an answer attached to your comment), i use the fast flip like he explains, then jump, turn and impact the ball with the side of my car, trying to be just high enough that it doesn't leave the ground even if the opponent is low on the ball. This allows a larger range of your opponent's hit angle while still driving the ball to the side you want, since you have a wider hitbox. It's also somewhat convenient because you'll usually land facing the side, ready to collect side or corner boost depending on how the kickoff went/other players' positioning. Almost no matter what your opponent does, he's just driving the ball into your car that is now a wedge toward the wall/corner where your teammate is picking up corner boost. I'd recommend turning away from where you want the ball to go, so when you go to get side or corner boost, your teammate isn't wondering whether or not you're following the ball. That will cut down on double commits to the 2nd touch and get rotation started in the right direction.
That’s a risky strategy but sometimes it works. I only use that if I know my opponent is way better than me at kickoffs because that is a more inconsistent way of winning kickoffs. If I know I’m already going to get beat doing a normal kickoff, I might try something else like that.
@@WaytonPilkin Good to know, I've been slowly improving at mechanics and strategy, but I still always wait for the enemy to kick the ball into me. It always works for me, as I'm only at the top of gold, but I gotta learn to do the right one.
There's a Rock-paper-scissors to everything. In this case, a delayed contact works if you can position yourself so that the ball is sent into you (2nd touch) which is then deflected off to a desirable side. Your opponent can counter this by powering through your position so that the ball deflecting off your car gets deflected off theirs (3rd touch), which then sends the ball to your half of the court. Basically, they countered your countermeasure. This is the beauty of kickoffs that naysayers don't understand. A lot happens in that one moment of contact.
Same for the straight forward and landing into the ball mid flight... I’ve been using that forever now and it works out perfectly fine when you turn your car a little to the center, jump lower to do an air roll and right before you hit the ball, use some boost and do an air roll towards the ball. I feel like that’s stabilising the car quite a bit and I land perfect with momentum towards the middle boost at the other side of the field after almost every hit...
And then you have the "bad kickoff players" that actually win the kickoff situation 99% of the time BECAUSE they are slower and get the reflection. The flips are also super easy to read, since you can see the opponent's nametag twirling around.
It can work against you if your opponent know how to make the perfect reflection, if your car is 10% faster to the ball it will reflect towards your field and that is good when you have a team. It’s all about strategy, how fast you get to the ball is not important. The controle of the car and reading the other players car are keys to reading the game.
This is one of the reasons I don’t believe in ‘good’ kick-offs; if I know someone will get there before me, I just wait that half a second then win the kick-off. They’re so obsessed with hitting it first, they’re not even considering how going slower could be an advantage. Also, winning the kick-off isn’t that important, anyway. It doesn’t have much of an impact on the game. Being able to defend quick shots on goal from kick-off would make more sense to practice. Last man back has the bigger part to play imo
Front flip kickoff OP. I learned from leth that you can have a great front flip kickoff if you hit the ball correctly. I always do these when my speedflips aren't working out
I've also recently started side flipping into the ball instead of front flipping and oh boy, I'm never going back. Try side flipping into the ball, it's op (if you're coming in from left, flip left, if coming from right, flip right. Your car acts like a funnel for the ball)
Your videos deserve you a lot more subscribers than you have so far! They’re incredibly easy to understand and well structured, it makes million subscriber channels that make tip videos look bad. Subscribed for sure, and I hope a lot more do as well.
As someone in diamond who speed flips almost perfectly, LEARN IT NOW. Kickoffs are the only thing guaranteed to happen in rl, so when I play a game against someone with slow kickoffs, I can hit the ball around them and get around 3 kickoff goals on an average match against someone who cant kickoff
i have some pretty good ones . . . - turtle kick off ( roof on ground ) - Beyblade backflip kick off ( spin sideways till near ball and front/backflip depending on situation ) - Goalie kick off ( All go in goal and try to defend ) I pretty much do all these whenever i want to, it's pretty fun.
One kick off I’ve been seeing in Plat for diagonal starting point. The player will boost with diagonal flip to the ball, the power steer so they are parallel will the goal, and then lastly side flip into the ball. I wanna say their thought process on this is to have more surface area coverage then just the tip. What are your thoughts on this?
Caleb Carter This only works if the opponent is slow to the ball. That change in direction to parallel slows, even if only slightly, your hit on the ball so someone that does their kickoff perfectly will hit it first and pinch it over you. Also, if/when you do lose the kickoff you could be facing the wrong direction so you can’t recover fast enough. It might work at plat but once you get to like champ and up it’s not really useful
I always just make sure to be the second one to hit the ball in the kickoff. The ball bounces towards you and then bounces off you and goes towards the opponent's goal. Works very well for me
@@TROPtastic Of course the mayority of rl players use controller, it's way better, but there is also people that play with keyboard, it's not ilegal xd. For example me and my friend we are both gc and we have used keyboard since we started playing. Btw it's a kick offs video, there is no relation between kickoffs and ranks. If it was a ceiling ground pinch tutorial u could suppose that the people watching are at least champ more or less. But in a kick off video people from any rank could be interested. Kickoffs are a mechanic used at any rank
Exactly what I thought, high ranked keyboard gang here. The front flip one is actually decent if you flip and boost at the right times, and you easily win the kickoff by 'predicting' which side they are trying to push the ball. (e.g what kind of kickoff they use/where their team mate is).
Fast kick offs are useless when your enemy hits the ball after your hit and the ball flies to your own goal, I always get the ball 85% to the enemy while not being always the first
@@zenex1741 They definitely work up to where i am, which is champ 2 and ive seen many gc players use them as well, you're probably not performing them correctly
Am I crazy? I really don't see any difference between "the perfect kickoff" and "a few of the bad kickoffs." It literally looks like they hit the ball at the same time
A good kickoff lands the ball on the opponent’s side of the field for you to get first touch and make a play. But some people intentionally let the ball land on their own side of the field for your teammate(s) to cheat up and get first touch.
I loaded in to a casual 1v1 game after clicking on this video. I immediately did a kickoff and the ball goes right into my own net. I then decided I should probably watch this video.
Im at GC rank, im going well with reacting to my oponents movements. That makes me let the ball go into the direction i want like 70-80% of the time. And i feel like beeing first on ball is getting less importent at this point, cause if my enemy does get first on the ball i just reakt to it and win the 50 with a good second touch at the ball. Still a good video to get another perspective on other kick off strategies
For the diagonal kickoff I recommend rebinding L1 for air roll left or r1 for air roll right so u can hold L1 or R1 while front flipping to get the perfect diagonal flip, and its way easier than just pointing ur joystick diagonally and flipping which is highly inaffective.
I just flip right as I'm at the ball. I usually hit it first if the opponent doesn't speed flip. When they do speed flip, my front flip usually allows the back end of my car to hit the ball again and the ball just goes over them. Works pretty well, not every time but most times. I don't usually play solo so my teammates will get the ball after that hit. Effective, not efficient, but effective
When I noticed that the problem is that I never touch the ball BEFORE my opponent, I started to touch AFTER purposefully, getting the rebound of force the opponent puts and trying to redirect the ball's course to the side to a teammate or to the goal.
You guys are playing to slow. Also. If you're solo queuing you can't count on coms. Lots of whiffs in bronze level play. That's gonna make you wiff and want to play slow.
There's quite a few new people to RL looking at this still, but if they see this comment just know. The corner kickoffs where you front flick is viable for a delayed kickoff and works pretty well even at a high level but there isn't much point then because everyone can do a speed flip and knows how to counter a delayed kickoff.
the Problem I got with this kickoff strategy is, that it's not really adaptable because you're going superfast. Knowing how to do this is great, but you should always be ready to change your kickoff depending on the enemy playstyle. Having the best kickoff is good, but having a predictable kickoff is weak
I've found that front flipping into the ball makes it much more likely to leave it sitting in the center. Whereas side flipping (facing the same way as for a forward flip, inbetween the ball and the goal, but the slightest bit to one side) hits it to the side while still often winning. I generally prefer sending the ball flying so i tend to go with a side flip. It also means if the ball simply rolls away, i already have a side flips worth of momentum going in the correct direction to follow it. But I'd be interested to hear more of your analysis on the difference between these two strategies and how to avoid killing the ball while still forward flipping
@@benduguid6363 That's good to know. I'm not high enough yet to need it but I'll put more effort towards learning it. Though, I have found speed flipping to be very hard to learn. Do you not have the same choice when doing a speed flip kickoff? What to do with the second flip you use when you reach the ball?
As a champ 1/ diamond 3 player I’m confident about winning 90% of my kickoffs bc all I like to do is play 1s and I just came here to see what other ppl do, pretty much the same
Honestly, calling diamond a low rank is both honest and helpful. It tells us that the most important thing isn't holding a rank, it's having fun with the game and for most of us watching this video: it's about getting better. I don't have rank anxiety anymore because I know I'll rank up naturally.
For the kickoffs where you're placed in front of the goal (not the ones on the far sides), I hit the ball a little to the side and don't flip for the touch. Usually, even in diamond matches, I get the first touch and then get the ball centered. The only con is that if you miss, almost a guaranteed goal
Ur my go to guy. I’ve improved so much. Thing I am doing is playing so much that I’m finding myself played out. Not to the point of giving up because I’m not a quitter and because of you I don’t care if I’m even winning (though it would be nice). But simply taking a break. Having a hard time flipping fast and landing straight though.
I actually use the diagonal flip to get around, just like you suggested, but for some reason never thought to use it in kickoffs. Thanks for the tip, I suppose, even though I now feel rather silly

I would rather spend a couple of mins more watching that than rewinding the video to watch it again. It just details but thank you again for this amazing tutorial.

aye. this video is so misleading with exacts and blanket statements about right or wrong.

Wayton, what about waiting a bit for the opponent to kick the ball into you?
As a firm believer in the wavedash kickoff, the person who did it for the video isn't great at them. They jump waaay to high for the wavedash.
I use the same one and do it much quicker as well. I mostly play 3s so not as effected. I was to inconsistent with his method
@@patricko8698 well you have to pratice the method to the same level as your other method before you can truly criticize it
Same for the straight forward and landing into the ball mid flight...
It’s been two years of me playing RL and I still find myself coming back to this vid
Exactly. I dont speed flip and I read them, 9/10 if someone does a speed flip I beat them on the redirect

Exactly what I thought, high ranked keyboard gang here. The front flip one is actually decent if you flip and boost at the right times, and you easily win the kickoff by 'predicting' which side they are trying to push the ball. (e.g what kind of kickoff they use/where their team mate is).
Never understood the point of fast kick-offs, you have way less control on where the ball goes if you hit it first.
Fast kick offs are useless when your enemy hits the ball after your hit and the ball flies to your own goal, I always get the ball 85% to the enemy while not being always the first

What would you bind boost to in that case?
This video in a summary: Flip
I like how you compare to the wrong way of kicking off and they still beat you to it or at least tie you
I just flip right as I'm at the ball.

There's quite a few new people to RL looking at this still, but if they see this comment just know.
The corner kickoffs where you front flick is viable for a delayed kickoff and works pretty well even at a high level but there isn't much point then because everyone can do a speed flip and knows how to counter a delayed kickoff.
Anyone else hates teammate who says "I got it" on kickoff but doesn't do a flip while kickoffing?
the Problem I got with this kickoff strategy is, that it's not really adaptable because you're going superfast.
