I like this take on the devil. He's still unapologetic about what he did to earn his position but he's so jaded at this point that he that he just shrugs at the fact that it's his divine punishment but refuses to let people forget who and what he is exactly, and what he's been through.
You can see, albeit fleetingly, the fear in Chloe's eyes when Lucifer suddenly yells "And I'm the Devil!".

Well to be honest in reality it seems like the devil isn't doing his job as really bad things are happening around the world.
Let's put it this way.......Almost every person in this world knows right and wrong by what they get out of them.......generally, most of the people in the society dont become criminals just because it's "wrong"..... doing those things will lead to punishment .......if there's no punishment, no one is stopping anyone to just cause mayhem and going out m**dering people. So the devil is actually the only thing that is keeping the society in check.
Even if we assume there is no hell or heaven, the mere thought of punishment is the only thing that is stopping most of the criminals.
