    As a frequent visitor to the Isle of Man I can recommend the island as a destination with plenty to see and do, 3 legs aviation services do a superb job. Over the past few years the airport management has been lacklustre to say the least with utterly inexcusable policies that restricted parking to five aircraft when over TT race week in the past you would see 50-60 aircraft parked on the grass. There is little doubt that the shortsighted airport management over the last few years has badly let down the tourist industry ( ironic with one government department working towards tourism and another restricting it with petty parking restrictions on a huge airfield ). The interview with the new airport director seems to indicate a breath of fresh air in the airport management that is badly needed. I do hope that this indicates this very worthwhile GA destination becomes a viable destination once again especially during the motorcycle race weeks.

    Funny to hear that the lighthouse VRP was once Clarkson owned. During Covid-19 he was vocal about little buzzy aeroplanes flying over Diddly squat farm. I saw its location identified as a Skydemon unofficial way point.... Haha.

    Another superb review, Jon. You fill them with so much priceless info for us pilots, I could have easily sat and watched you waxing lyrical for another hour. Top class presenting. Loved it, thank you!👌👏👏👏

    Worked there many years ago, in ATC, this brings back very happy memories. Must visit soon, but alas I’ve now sold my little Beechcraft so it will be EasyJet with a beer in hand..!

    Wow an amazing Video, you have convinced me both I and my wife Val need to visit, albeit on Commercial Flight as not a PPL Pilot. Just a lover of Aviation since 10 years so 65 years now. I truly feel Jon you captured the beauty of the Isle of Man. The Steam Train was a added bonus. Outstanding Architecture. Seems the Government are trying to get GA Pilots to visit as well as the general public. Thank You. 👏

    Great honest review Jon and fantastic that you have positively highlighted their willingness to become more GA friendly. Hopefully we will see you soon at Newtownards, I understand the wheels are in motion. Take care.

    I got my PPL in the Isle of Man back in 2005 with the (sadly now defunct) Manx Flyers Aero Club. My Qualifying Cross Country was to Carlisle, Prestwick and then back to the Island, so I'm used to being all kitted out with a life vest and emergency raft in the passenger seat. Things have moved on since then and I have sadly lapsed as a PPL. Watching your channel inspired me to get current again but the cost of greed crisis has put that on ice, somewhat.

      Fascinating insights (hell of a qxc!). Might I recommend you try fixed wing microlights, you may be pleasantly surprised. They're not difficult to fly, just a different approach, modern aircraft are superb too. 3-4 gallons of mogas an hour, 50-75p an hour maintenance (iirc), what's not to like💜✌️😊

    • @chrisglaister9303
      @chrisglaister9303 Рік тому +2

      @@musoseven8218 There's a class of fixed wing microlight that still can count to normal fixed wing hours I believe. Would love to have something like that. I'm up at the north of the island these days where there are a couple of private strips. Maybe one day.

    Excellent video as always. Enjoying this series very much. Living in Northern Ireland I would obviously suggest another over water leg to Newtownards our local GA airfield. Keep up the good work.

    I’d planned to fly to the IOM earlier this year as part of our Fly-UK tour, en-route to Newtownards. It seemed a good opportunity to make the long water crossing as part of a flying group and tick another ‘country’ off in my log book. Mark at Three Legs Aviation was really helpful and secured PPR and parking for our group of microlights.
    Unfortunately the weather didn’t play ball and there were strong gale-force winds coming in off the Atlantic and swamping Ireland and Northern UK for that weekend. Would still like to go, definitely as part of a group though for the sea crossing

    Fantastic video; and part of the reason why I am learning to fly is to allow me to visit family on the Isle. Be good to see a follow-up video filmed during the TT’s or Manx GP 😉

    My flying pal Paul Feldhahn and I did MAN to IOM(VFR) in one of the MSF Cherokees back in the mid 1970s.We stopped over for a coffee before going on to DUB then Weston.I don't recall any particular paperwork being required although we did have to report to customs and the police when back in MAN the same day.We were concerned about such a long leg over water but our CFI assured us that engines don't know they are over water.It seems that modern GA is a touch more complicated these days

    I absolutely adore the Isle of Man. My best friend from my army days resides just outside of Douglas, and I have visited there many times with my family and alone. If you haven't been, it's well worth a visit. I once caught a huge mackerel at Peel harbor and rode my mountain bike on the TT race circuit. It's a stunning location.

    Jeremy Clarkson doesn't like a type of device that turn petroleum into noise (and pollution)? I guess I shouldn't expect anything less? Ah well. I look forward to visiting the Isle and flying in yourself would be a pretty ideal way to get there!

    I started to fly light aircraft (ctls, fk9] that fly so swiftly and can land on almost any field and watching these empty, clumsy, fuel hungry 4 four seaters that go hardly faster gives me uneasy feeling and memories I don’t feel desperate to go back to.

    Is no one concerned that a pilot, making a genuine mistake with the paperwork for a flight to the IoM, would be prosecuted under terror offences? Is that not a huge step too far?! More creeping fascism.... it’s getting worrying now.

    • @musoseven8218
      @musoseven8218 Рік тому

      I agree, it isn't even fascism, it's neo Maoism (see the CCP and WEF), especially, weird re the IOM, when you can rock up here in a rubber boat during a pandemic and no one bats an eyelid 🙄🤔🙄🤔🙄 So many inappropriate and/or broken systems in the UK.

    • @jamessutton23
      @jamessutton23 Рік тому +2

      They’re honestly not that anal. If you make a mistake the customs are more than happy to help.
      If you purposely provide misinformation then obviously you will have an issue
