Hi John, interested in hearing how flying for these trips affects your enjoyment of a place once you're there. I often find myself distracted thinking about logistics, weather, timings of the return trip when I should be appreciating the experience of being there. Probably something that gets easier as you do more of them I imagine. Thanks for the continued vids
It's an issue for sure - especially if, as we did, Bertie had to be at school. James had to be at work etc, etc. I think having better weather knowledge helps with this, as you can make much informed decisions about your trip. So I could plan our 3 day trip well in advance, with reasonable confidence, we'd 'get back'. If you have this confidence, you are less likely to be worried during your stay, and enjoy it more. But the 'worry' doesn't go away.
Your flight preparation and execution is "top notch" and very professional. A great example to other VFR pilots in any country. Which navaid are you using in this video?... I use Foreflight but I have looked at others over the years. I only wish that the iPad screens were brighter on those sunny days. Thanks for sharing.

Great vid again. Good to know that these restricted areas are not as restricted as one might think. Looking at this H-shaped building again, and it's hard to see on vid, it seems to be red-white checkered in the middle. Although seeing this from the air would be even harder.

Hi, enjoying the videos , when you leave the uk I have seen on the videos that you submit your flight plan and passport details via the app , then you clear customs over in France at least touquet, when you are headed back out of France do you submit the flight details again but then the customs you clear is back in the uk, as in can you fly from the chateau you are staying at directly back to uk customs (this is in a helicopter ) , I hope that makes any sense , thanks 👍
Thank you John for this very educational video plus your earlier one on transit UK to France. Lognes is a great place to go to-ATC, refuel, restaurant. The LFR324 quite rightly is radio needed-nothing more so just plan for the Class As and controlled airspace. French is required on all FR ADs if non controlled or ATC not available-check their hours on iVAC/cartes vac. Notams available on SOFIA briefing but normally everything covered well by skydemon. Pontoise is an easy one to get into but a bit far Uber wise from Paris. Toussus is not at all easy and would advise stay clear-lots of locals still get busted there. St Cyr is half/half-snuck under an A, Chavenay RMZ, Pontoise CTA and Le Bourget TMA
I enjoyed this video, being a local of LFPL myself. Paris airspace is mad, but the complaints from neighbours and their consequences on the airfields are even worse. Chelles Le Pin just north of Lognes actually requires specific training like a mountain strip because of how tight the circuit is. LFPN Toussus le Noble requires dodging as much inhabited land as possible.
In a lot of Europe, each ATC unit (below controlled airspace) will have it's dedicated set of squawks which it will apply to aircraft talking to them, so that everyone around knows at a glance who they're talking to...as opposed to discrete codes for each flight/aircraft.
Usually makes things easier at both ends and en route. They have your details, know you’re coming. They don’t generally do PPR in France. It is not a requirement VFR in France, unless you meet the FPL criteria for inhospitable terrrain etc.
You get used to the common French RT phrases, or at least you can learn them, so you know what’s being said and can use that to build a picture of what’s going on.
They have Radar services, but not Basic, Traffic, Deconfliction etc. They apply a more ICAO compliant service- and the UK is likely to revert back to that suite of services.
Affirme as we say in France. There is no serice request in France. You say hello and thats it. They have you on the radar and will advise accordingly (VFR at least)

even FR locals get busted-often-flying into Toussus. Stay clear unless you want a challenge.

At some airfields yes, if they don't have ATC. Elsewhere, English (or French).
