This is just so beautiful. I'm still getting goosebumps even on the 4th and 5th time watching! Love this.
If you want more beautifully emotional stuff from Ren, I very highly recommend Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s a little older (I believe from before he finally got the right diagnosis of Lyme disease) and heart wrenching.
@@Shiroar oh man…that sounds like it’s a tough one. I just started these reactions and you want to make me cry already? 🤣🫠
@@musikbyjh I didn’t then. But now… 😂 Check out the song Freckled Angels. Ren wrote that song for his friend that he lost to suicide. Seriously though both songs are beautiful and worth checking out. The very real emotions turned into art is one of the best things about Ren.
You should check out Ren X Chinchilla How To Be Me the video version not the lyric version. It's AMAZING and sad. He wrote for his friend that committed suicide.
You'll notice in Rens videos he is actually singing live rather than lip sync like other artists do
Great reaction
This song is beautiful I would react How To Be Me with ft Chinchilla again and its another live performance it's about a friend of Ren who committed suicide but the vocals and lyrics are awesome
Maybe there is a lesson in Rens music for Audio Engineers.
The people love that raw unscrewed with sound.
Hungry for it.
Less ENGINEERING more of the natural sound.
Well...I mean you're opinion is certainly one a lot of folks can relate to. I LOVE raw and uncensored....but usually when I go see an artist live, is when I expect that. You get raw and uncensored the way they do this...but you also lose intricacies of their talent because you simply cant hear what's there. There's something to be said for that too. They both have their place my friend.
So heavy and yet so beautiful.
There is a studio version of the song as well. I like this one better though.
Oh nice! I’ll have to find that. This is probably a lot more raw, and real.
Fantastic song! Please keep reacting to Ren - I’ll be here to watch!
Thanks for sticking around and tuning in! Definitely will have more Ren on the way! Love this guy.
@@musikbyjh Love all of Ren’s music - kind of obsessed. 🤷🏻♀️ Will definitely be waiting for your next one. Thank you!
Great reaction. The following was collated by Jens Randolff, so respect to him for that.
"Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 4 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live in a single take (although not necessarily the first take). His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are also worth checking out; they are simply amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work
Thank you so much for that info! Sounds like Ren has done quite a lot! I'm so happy to have finally heard him, and can go on this journey of discovery! Loving it so far! Lots more to check out. Cheers!
Indeed! It was thanks to Jens that I found many of Ren's covers and The Big Push 😂 it's nice that you credit him here.
@@ericcecil989 Thanks, credit where credit is due!!
I've been watching this on repeat for months, I still get goosebumps, still get a little tearful. Great reaction - the Renegade is growing strong!
freakin vibed with it so much. gold tier sonic material. 🤘
His live recordings take advantage of place and space. In this case, as you heard when the chair opened and produces the echos from the walls, this propted the idea for the song, a metaphor for an empty space hence Chalk Outlines. CHINCHILLA also emerges from the walls and floor like an echo and her performance both singing and choreography is dictated by this aspect. My take anyway, would this explain the levels you talked about?
Nice! Thank you for such a thorough take on this. I guess it's more about the vibe you want to convey, rather than the actual audio quality. I have no issues with artistic freedom like that. I'm all for it. Could it be much better and still convey the message? Yes. But I DO love the rawness of it. It's not polished. It's pure emotion, vibe, and realness. I def. dig it.
Thanks again for watching and for your take!
@@musikbyjh they have this song on Apple Music, not the live version and imo it’s not as good. The live take, where they chose to film it, and the emotion and like you said rawness, makes is beautifully flawed. There’s more of an impact, I think. Great video btw 😊
@@jadebiteyou oh yes…totally agree. There’s a place for everything. If I was driving in my truck, I would absolutely want the studio version. But if I can sit and WATCH, then def want the raw version. Being an engineer as well as a band member, I’m very familiar with raw. It certainly has its place! I have no doubt that this live version is more powerful.
Great review. Chinchilla is a powerhouse vocalist and they sing beautifully together. But like you, I'm always afraid she's going to accidentally slice his face with the nails whenever I watch it. Ren has a number of fun songs too. What You Want, The Hunger and Losing It (Fisher Rap Retake) are worthy of a listen because he shows off his rapping skills. He goes double-time in Losing It & The Hunger, but he actually goes triple-time in The Hunger too. It's crazy. And then to see another facet of his versatility, be sure to check out his Bob Marley cover of I Shot the Sheriff.
Thank you! Chinchilla is amazing! Love it. But those CLAAAWWS! haha Thanks for the Ren suggestions! I've had a few suggestions for Losing It. Def. looking forward to hearing the rap skills. I mean, I've heard a little bit of it..but I know this dude can get down!
Thank you for reacting to this song and for the sharing of emotions and being open
I was just watching your last Ren reaction and hopped on over to see you are doing Chalk Outlines. One of my favorites for sure. I would recommend jumping over to his band, The Big Push and give War Pigs or I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop a try. Then maybe jump into a happy rap song like Losing it or The Hunger. That is only the beginning of his catalog.
Hey, thanks for tuning in! Yeah, so Ren just came out of nowhere for me and blew me away! Definitely will be doing more from him. Didn't know he had a band though! I'll certainly add that to the list! Looks like he just keeps going, with his versatility!
@@musikbyjh His I shot the sheriff/road to zion medley is fantastic for sure. Honestly, every song ive listened seems to be very intentional and a joyful experience. no two are the same..
Such a beautiful song, their voices compliment each other perfectly, love your react as usual 🖤
Everyone loves REN
That’s definitely clear. It’s pretty awesome! Haven’t seen one bad thing said about him. Love this dude.
You should react to Ren and his former band big push cover of 'i shot the sheriff' street performance or Ren x chinchilla 'onedance/drunk in love' for more of their vocal range. and DEFINITELY check out Ren money game 1 and 2 it's more like sick boi style i think you will love those especially money game 2
absolutely! Definitely meaning to check out the band. Sounds like he's got quite the catalog
I'm glad you enjoyed this. The part near the end when Chinchilla's voice picks up power and the guitar kicks back in gives me pleasure chills every time.
Follow any suggestions you've had from others so far and you won't go wrong but I'm going to throw 2 more suggestions into the hat for you to check out in the future. They are Ren - Genesis (studio version rather than live) and Ren featuring Eden Nash - Ocean. I like the production of both but that can be a personal thing.
Ren is incredibly creative and versatile so the only thing to expect is the unexpected.
Thanks for your comment! I definitely agree with you. Major chills! Definitely going to have to check out some more of these!
Love this one from Ren ... love all the ones from Ren!
Another great reaction mate. Possibly mentioned in the comments below but Ren X Chinchilla 'How to be me' (Live) is another one you should consider reacting to.
The live versions have a raw quality that is second to none, but both Chalk Outlines and How to be me have studio version lyric videos on Ren's channel. They add other things to the mix. Listen to them for your own enjoyment if you wish!
Thank you so much! I definitely would love to hear more with Ren and Chinchilla. I've got quite the list of Ren songs to do. I love it. They've all been very different. I'm really diggin' it.
Warning "how to be me" is about a friends suicide, it will melt your heart, I cry everytime I watch it, And I'm a 55 year old hairy arsed Scotsman.
@@panchomcsporran2083 yeah…I’m sure that is going to be another tough one. Definitely on the list.
Thanks for this nice reaction. I am also happy that you appreciated Chinchilla's voice. I would like to encourage you to try react to one of her solo performances like "Vero Presents: Chinchilla - Fingers (live)" because I believe that you only saw is a tip of an iceberg here. She is talented AF and have an extremely versatile voice. Also I beleive that the audio engineering of her live performance is top notch. Cheers.
Nice. Thanks for reacting to this.
You might really enjoy the big push. The band rens in. I shot the sheriff/zion rd/hip hop. That exact one.
I agree 💯 with this!
Yea for this one he recorded everything in 1 take and the rawness is completely intentional with all the imperfections too.
He is a completely independent artist so recording options is quite limited and probably hard to do as he doesn't have a big budget considering his medical situation.
The fact that he has the ability to produce music at this level with the fact of being sick for half his life and so many years tells volumes to the amazing talent he has.
Chinchillas voice and body language is so good in this one as well sounds amazing!
I like your approach to reacting.
I'm not getting any EGO ... I don't have to watch you recognize fellow talent then witness humbleness wash over you.
You're already humble.
gj Man, ty 8-)
Great reaction I just subbed and I really think you'll love Ren"s Money Game 1 and 2. By the way this performance was live. Ren does a lot of one take live performances. If you want to hear his story telling he has a trilogy that's about 13 minutes long that starts with the Tale of Jenny..
Thank you so much! I'll def check out the trilogy very soon. Money Game keeps popping up, so that might be afterwards. Loving this guy's stuff.
@@musikbyjh this guy is soo talented it should be illegal. 😂
@@mikebeeby7583 yeah, it’s pretty insane what this guy can do. The thing is…realizing just how many more people are this talented, that never get seen. I’m just thankful he’s getting his spotlight.
I love how Ren is singing first vocal and she is second, contrary to their song How To Be Me where he sings second and she does the first
If you want to checkout some more of his creativity react to Ren 'the tale of jenny and screech (full)' it shows off his story telling skills really well
Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely plan on going down that path. for sure!
Beautiful! (And as a sidenote, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was afraid Chinchilla was going to accidentally Freddy Krueger Ren with those talons!)
In my opinion this version is better than the studio version just because it is so raw.
It definitely is very powerful.
Heyyy love the hoodie!!
Nice reaction
Thank you so much!!
Watch Chinchilla do Elements, also Cold Water, she great😁
I definitely need to check her out for sure!
I think they choose to record like this for absolute honesty. Most of his videos are recorded live in one take. No click track, no auto tune.
Natural reverb is phenomenal, there is an honesty to it... Ask John Bonham.
Budget may have initially had something to do with the almost Dogmatic style of film making, but I hope it's a truth they always keep, dispite their hopeful imminent success.
Beautiful 👏👏👏
Such a beautiful song
I think she scratched my one last feeling with those talons ... Some super powerful imagery there ~ "... In the Gallows, balanced on my toes , so I can breath ..." ~ This only comes from a mind that's been flirting with suicide for a very long time. Hell, I could feel the rope tight around my neck on my tippy toes !!! I'm trying to decide if REN is talking about the Opioids that some people end up using to try and get away from the numb nothingness of Sertraline which is exactly that ... ' a floating chalk outline. ' Compared to the chalk outline a person may as well be drawing on the sidewalk by escaping with Crack Cocaine or Heroine off the street ... Pushing it '... all down with a great big smile ...' , ' ... just for a while ... '.
That's where my head went anyway. I'm seeing my own addiction journey, in this song and most likely projecting. Either way this was a hard song to hear, but cathartic. And beautiful.
Belated THANK YOU for this comment, James...it caught my attention. Love the "scratched my one last feeling with those talons", LOL!! Please know you are NOT alone, and mad props to you dealing with your own additions. That shit cannot be easy and I applaud your strength. In case no one has told you lately, you are AWESOME and worthy!! Hope to see you around the comments soon. ✌🏽
Hey brother man
Ren can shred, guitar and bass, check out his band (lots of YT videos of them busking) they're called "the big push" pick any song, they're all golden, infact anything Ren touches is fire.
Although you’ve already seen it many people would like your breakdown of hi ren.
Thanks for the comment! I've gotten a few requests for that for sure...so guess what? Hi Ren Review will drop tomorrow! Hope you enjoy it!
Such a beautiful song ❣️
Absolutely!
If you haven’t already watch the studio recording of this
He seems to have it more studio clean on the actual release on Spotify......I think
I'm going to have to check that out. That's the version to listen to in the car.
Ren was a busker for a very long time so I think he has a love for the raw, live performance. It's definitely an aspect of his that separates him from the vast majority of other musicians out there and his collaboration with cinematographer Samuel Perry-Falvey on these live videos should not go unmentioned. Mind you, he still has numerous songs he's recorded in studio himself and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on them as well.
The Jenny/Screech/Violet videos are a display of absolute creative power unmatched in new music presentation. Watch the three in order for an unbelievable experience.
Oh yes! That will definitely be in the agenda! Can’t wait!
Chinchillas solo stuff is really good too. I like her melodies, they’re unique.
I'm curious about that. I'll have to check her out!
@@musikbyjh i like “Fingers”
@@MikeB12800 awesome!! I’ll have to add it to the list!
@@MikeB12800 her live performance of Fingers left me awestruck
I haven't read all of the comments, so I just want to say that Ren and Chinchilla have another song Called How to be me . It will give you the same chills . I also saw 3 clips from a performance of them playing in the Street ( busking) . Thank you for your reactions. New Sub.
Thanks for the sun and the suggestion! I do believe that song was mentioned. I’ve got quite a list going. But I’m excited for it! This is pure talent! And I def want to see Ren and Chinchilla busking!
The other version Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines ua-cam.com/video/4Vn_N5IHHoc/v-deo.html
Sweet reaction brother... You have to experience Jenny, Screech and Violet the full trilogy, it's a work of art.... ✊🏽
Thank you so much! Just reacted to that yesterday. Should be out soon my friend!
@@sikimagery amazing brother, can't hardly wait.... ✊🏽
I’m not sure, but part of me feels like Ren (who grew his music presence by busking on the streets) has roots in live music so much that it’s part of his identity. Plus the fact that he’s such a story teller it feels right that you hear his surroundings. In the world of pitch correction and chopped up music tracks, this naked kind of track really appeals to me. It’s like the opposite of Belle in the live version of beauty and the beast lol
That was great... but I must admit a part of me kept thinking she must not do dishes or laundry or really anything with those nails. Plus, I also worried she'd accidently cut him. I guess I'm officially old enough to just shake my head at the young folk and their impractical "fashion" trends.
RIGHT?! Those claws!! haha But hey...I SURELY remember some fashion trends from my 90's days that were absolutely questionable. LOL
Ren's voice is great, but Chinchilla''s totally makes this. I'm straight white and male woke's. My music! 🏴
Oh I agree. Chinchilla stole the shown on this. But as an artist…I’m sure Ren wanted, and expected that. She’s great.
Love it! Looking forward to more! If you love the happy sounding music under dark lyrics aesthetic, I can't recommend highly enough that you check out Twenty One Pilots' music, their track Migraine is a perfect example! Keep up the great work! 🩷 [edit, in fact I'd recommend Twenty One Pilots Migraine, recorded in the live room for you specifically]
Thank you so much! Def more to come! This guy is amazing!
And thanks for the suggestion! I’ve actually worked with Twenty One Pilots a few years back for the VMA’s…first time I heard them…and from that day, I was a fan! But I’m really only familiar with Blurryface and Trench. I fell of from them with the new stuff. But Migraine, I can’t say I’ve heard! Maybe I’ll have to visit that track! That’s the downside to being a musician, and engineer…I’m a HUGE consumer of lots of music…so I can’t really react to a lot of the songs that are really popular on these reaction videos. But, so far, I’ve def found a few rabbit holes that I was clueless about! And it’s a blast!
@muSiK yeah, you should def go check out their album Vessel that came out before Blurryface! They have an underground album from before Vessel called Regional at Best that has some great tracks as well
@@mama_nez oh wow! Yeah, I had no idea they had stuff earlier. Nice!!
@muSiK There's even a solo album by Tyler Joseph that he produced in his parent's basement when he was 17. It's called No Phun Intended
If this has been edited for radio or for release as a single I’m sure Chinchilla would’ve been mixed better but the point is there is no mix. This is a raw one take with a very low budget. We need more of this in music. Things have become far too overproduced. The barrier to entry used to be fantastic voices and talent. In the last 30 years I’ve seen too many live shows that I wish I had never gone to. I hope Ren and Chinchilla both get the opportunities that they deserve given their level of talent.
While I mostly agree with you….I definitely don’t think we need MORE bad mixes. Because talent like this isn’t exactly abundant. At least not in the open. So if more people did this, we’d just have a lot of bad sounding music. I like how raw it is. And that’s what I’d want to see LIVE. But when listening to recorded music, I kind of prefer to hear the elements mixed better. Maybe it’s because my background is engineering. I feel I lost Chinchilla in a part where she should have been more prominent. I don’t consider that necessarily a “good” thing. But I do love the raw, real feelings. So it’s a toss up. I DO like seeing it done in one full take. I love that kind of talent.

Shut up about the nails!
The most irrelevant part of the song
Do you comment about her hair cut?
More interesting would be if you wondered why they were both in white or what those books and papers were at the beginning.
But no, it is all about the nails 😀
Yup
