New subscriber here - joined after watching several great videos. I'm a former logger (faller and skidder operator) and professional forester and worked my way though college running a firewood business in North Idaho. I can definitely relate to your content and have a lot of respect for how hard you guys work. I cut, split and delivered 30-50 cords each Fall, mostly as a one man show. I managed that while going to school full time and working another job on campus. I learned a lot about work flow and efficiency in the process. I'll try to jump in from time to time to share ideas you might be able to use to reduce handling and save your backs. The first thing I'll offer is your idea about getting a tractor mounted winch is a very good one. Definitely a work saver but they add new elements of risk that have to be managed (crush zones, tractor rollover, staying out of the bight of the line, recoil from broken cables, etc.). The best ones allow you to winch logs out of the woods and then lift the end of the log so you can skid it to a landing for processing. Exercise extreme caution on steep ground and avoid winching logs downhill. Logs can away from you fast and take your tractor with then when they go down the hill.

Just outside of Portland, Maine. I've been watching for about a month now. Enjoy watching, sometimes edit for time myself.
I really get a kick when one Tuber mentions another, you mentioning Wranglerstar, Out of the Woods giving you folks a nod.
Lets me know I'm watching the right channels.
Getting into April Wilkerson at the moment as well. Watched her sawmill build.
Well, keep up the good work, I'll keep watching.

That's kinda the way me and my dad stacked wood at his place. We hauled the tree to the back of the garage, then we cut it into sections and placed them in the log splitter, then they fell into the chute on the conveyor belt up to the house where my dad stacked the wood into the racks. We also had two racks in the garage for the small pot belly stove for the winter months and had two large racks in the basement of the house for that pot belly stove in the so called man cave. We had a large fireplace between the living and dining rooms. One rack on the porch had a large O on the top. That was oak wood for the smoker. My dad loved grilling but I did the smoking. Memorys. But we never ran out of wood when i was growing up

Hi & greetings from Exmoor in England.....
Its been pretty wet here for the last 2 months but very mild - normally have a few hard frosts and a dusting of snow by now but nothing this year.
We have 36 acres here, with 3 x lakes and a few acres of woodland and use a John Deere 3036E with a Finnish Hakki Pilke wood processor - a combined circular saw, splitting chamber and conveyor. We have a hydraulic splitter for larger timber and are awaiting delivery of a Norwegian, Igland winch so we can pull from deeper on the woods. Like you guys, its a job that me & the wife share.
Wishing you a very happy 2020 - we're pretty excited now we have a strong, new government and can finally get out of the European Union and be a free country again.
    Good times ahead......

Hi there.. My wife and I run a small firewood business in nova scotia. We use both a processor as well as a splitter with conveyor to process 8ft logs into 16 inch firewood. Using our HakkiPilke Greenspeed x42 processor, from the time the wood is loaded on my feed table and processed directly into the truck, 1 cord takes two hours ... and I am not slow (I don't think so anyways). That's with the table always being loaded with wood non stop so the processor has no pause time. Still takes us 2 hrs to load one full cord loosely. Honestly the speed of the wood going into the truck is no slower than in your video. I just cant see how you managed a cord in 30 mins. I have watched your video over and over. It takes a full hour and a half to get one cord into the truck with two splitters going at the same time non stop. I have watched many videos on here showing people using processors and getting 1 cord loaded in an hour. That would be a dream for me. I just can't manage to reach that level of efficiency. With your splitter (and it is a fantastic looking commercial level splitter), one guy splitting, into the conveyor, a 30 min cord does not make any sense at all (to me). Also, your dump trailer is 6x12x2 (is that right?) which is only 144 cf of space. A lose cord should fill at least 35% extra space to account for all those holes. Therefore 128 plus 35% would be approx. 180 cf of storage in your trailer. I am not convinced that you processed a full cord in that video. I would have liked to see a closer view of the wood inside the trailer after you were done. Doesn't really matter though because even if you did 90% of a full cord in 30 mins that still would be amazing. Having said all of that, we do like watching your videos and we really like your splitter and conveyor setup. Cheers from NS !

Melissa I love your hair and beautiful smile. It keeps you looking well under 50. Mike you have a great setup for firewood and I love the videos. You were completely right about the danger of cutting from a wood pile. I sold firewood as a side business when I was younger and on occasion, when I was desperate for wood, I would cut from piles rolled up by front end loaders. Lots of tension on those trees! I stopped when I cut thru my boot and almost lost my toes. Like I said, I was young, dumb, and bullet proof.

It is refreshing to find people on this channel that are god fearing and that make family the center of it all. God Bless you guys and keep up the good work. Mike - you mentioned in a recent video about safety and keeping the work area clean - YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!! About 5 weeks ago I had a simple trip and fall in the yard resulting in breaking my wrist (dominant hand) and have since had surgery. It has restricted my ability to do most anything, not to mention the time/effort for Physical Therapy and the related co-pays. So very frustrating and don't wish it on anyone. Good advice to be careful!!!

One of my in-laws does firewood but it's far from commercial. We're in Kiln, MS, splitting with a Tractor Supply 25 ton CountyLine. They get $100 per truck load, not a cord. I tell you, that spiltter is slow. It takes about 2 hours to get a truck load but it's stacked in the truck so I guess it's a little under a half cord. It's just after Thanksgiving so in South Mississippi, the firewood season is pretty much over with. Maybe a couple more orders but that's it. The wood is water oak and takes a good year to season up.

I wonder how long would your log splitter would last in Australia. Australian timbers logs are like lumps of concrete. Send one to Australia see how long it lasts. Because jeeps don't last not even 50.000 kms.

Grew up on 500 acre farm in middle Tennessee. Firewood was a yearly undertaking being that we used an Ashley wood stove for heat in the winter. The splitter and conveyer would've been a God send. We used the splitting maul. I was my dad's eldest son . ( Melissa works harder than my 2 brothers did 🤣)
At 49 years of age I laughed a lot and cried a little reminiscing of the good ol days while listening to the background music 😎👍

I don’t think 60k would cover it. When you factor in the tractor, splitter, conveyor, dump trailer, truck to deliver wood, chainsaws etc. You could buy a machine for the same money and get 100 an hour without all the work. I can appreciate what he’s trying to do, but I have done firewood off and on my whole life. There are much easier ways to make money. Firewood is hard and sometimes dangerous work. Love the channel. 👍
