That was exciting. That steep yellow pole trail following that guy on that two-ski wide groove was not where I expected to see a pedestrian. One thing this video did was give me a sense of how big that place is. How do they clear it of skiers at the end of the day. There are so many places to hide bodies. Thermal imaging cameras from choppers?
I enjoyed that run. It didn't originally go to plan, so I took that route. The video scheduled for Sunday is the intended route... I don’t think those guys were pedestrians, but a couple of snowboarders on an aborted mission. I don't think this trail is well suited for them... I'm not sure what it's like in the US, but at many places in Europe, the resorts aren't cleared as such. You can stay on the mountain once the lifts close. I see people ski back well into the night with their torches/flashlights... this isn't the case with all resorts though...
The last time you did that traverse you were all on your own-ne-o, and the decent this time had a better snow covering as it wasn't as icy or had the same size moguls. BTW, had a reply from the Stockli rep, and for me he recommended Laser CX at 149 cm [ I'm just about 167 cm tall ]. Before I try that run, if I go the Stockli route I'll have a pair of Montero's.
Yes, you remember well, more powder this time, but still an icy patch at the intersection with the sign post. I'm not really familiar with Stockli, but I assume you are going for a more carving ski?
@@ChasingSnow Yeah even the last time that flat area around that sign was icy. According to Darren the ski tutor on SKNG Ski school all ski's are essentially carving skis owing to the concave edge shape. But regarding Stockli, the Laser is a pieste designed ski, and the Montero at 80 mm is an all mountain. The laser is £1k. Pricy, but you get what you pay for. Anyway, I'll see what the G&S guys says when I go there on the 16th. Regarding ski's persay, in the gondola crowd, I haven't seen many Stockli, just once or twice, probably owing to their cost. Lots of Volkl, and the other main brands like your Scotts.
@@Puzzoozoo Sure, pretty much all skis have the concave edge though I personally prefer wider and longer skis for off-piste but still good enough on the piste. My narrowest are 105s under foot while my pure powder skis are 114s, though they are not very good on piste as there is not much edge on them...
@@Puzzoozoo The blue Scott skis are 105 under foot and 183 length while the black Head skis are 107 under foot and 189 length. Big skis for lots of stabilty... but not very good for carving or short turns...

Good to see you back on the slopes!
Always! :-)

@@ChasingSnow 105, damn, from your videos I had no idea you ride skis that wide on piests. 😲
