The rough opening of 65 inches for the opening, is that from the trim peice at the closed jam, or is that from the 2x4 stud behind it?

From the trim piece. After doing so many of these, I found it best to measure the 65 and then go beyond to the next stud to make it even bigger. That way you're not cutting it too close. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

did you have to cut out the bottom sill of the original framed wall?

Good question. Yes, there is often a few inches of bottom sill sticking out and I cut that with a reciprocating saw. How to make the floor look nice always depends on what's there on either side of the doorway and you have to get creative with it. Thanks for watching

Is the height 84 inches from the subfloor, finished floor, or bottom framing? Lol, sorry for the dumb question

Not a dumb question at all and sometimes it's hard to tell. Use the finished floor as reference. Also, I don't use the brackets that Johnson supplies anymore. Instead I mount the track directly to the header. However you do it, mount the track, then put the truck into the track, then measure from the bottom of the truck to the top of finished floor and make your door 1/2" shorter than that. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

@@askillthatpays why don't you use the bracket anymore? Why directly to the header?

I just wish I wasn't getting estimates for $3500-4500 to install a pocket door. It doesn't seem complicated.

That seems a tad high, and I'd keep looking around. If I did one where I had to open the wall, install everything, cover it up with drywall AND paint, I'd charge $2500. They aren't complicated, but it's a lot of messy work. You might want to hire someone to simply demo and install and then hire a handyman to do drywall and paint. It MIGHT save money.
