I'm glad you posted a follow up on this intervention. I was seriously doubtful, but now I'm calling this plausible. Everything I researched on whitespot led me to believe that this wouldn't work, but the proof is in the pudding. I'm definitely gonna try an oversized uv sterilizer on my next tank. When you get away with it the 9 times before ,, you sometimes take the risk. I’d love to see LFS provide a quarantine service for customers who will pay the difference. It’s a great win on both sides
I did happen to me but because of this video my fish are safe I did buy the uv and for real it did work the only think I noticed do not turn it off right away because the water temperature I put a timer and started turn it off slowly thank you Kevin
Great to see everyone survive but one unlucky fish. :( Awesome you have the new UV in place so hopefully they all stay healthy and happy moving forward. That UV is a beast though! Ha
Great video and certainly great news to learn the outcome of the whitespot. Would love to see you do a video of how you do the process of collecting natural sea water and filtering etc. Keep up the good work Cam!! Happy Reefing!! 😊😊
Never knew this could be done on an established marine tank without taking the fish out to quarantine, great couple of videos Cam, always entertaining and educational. 👍🏴
@@GalleryAquaticaTV I do the same and i was successful but 3 weeks ago i noticed spots again and i realized the pump for uv sterilizer was off , i changed the pump and since 1 week fishes are clean again , i guess if you turn the Uv off it gonna start again , be careful about that .

I am not a believer in UV for parasite control. That being said I have never used one the size of a semi truck. I am so glad the fish are back up to speed and doing well. Good job Cam! 👍👍
Thank you Cam this a great demonstration of what it means to manage ich. In your experience with this method have you found that adding new fish will lead to another break out? Do you feel that the a fish can "build immunity" to ich? Thank you in advance from Minnesota, USA!
Been battling ich in my 150 for over 60 days now. QT everything, so it must have come in on a coral frag. At any rate, impossible to catch the fish out without destroying the reef. I just bought this unit and am going to give it a try. i have a smaller 50 watt unit on my DT, but its not enough. Tried hydrogen peroxide, metroplex, etc. My Powder Blue and Orange shoulder keep it constantly. 6 weeks was the time you had the sterilizer on? other than flow rate any other things to watch for?
Hey Cam or anyone else that reads this - do you reckon it’s worth having a little bag of Chemipure Blue (or other organic scavenger resins) in nano reef tanks? Or does it do more harm than good in terms of stripping nutrients from the system? I’m debating whether I should remove it from my tank (it’s only a 40 litre AIO) because although I have no algae issues I’m thinking my corals would be happier with more nutrients in the water column... my nitrate and phosphate levels are always 0.
What do you guys think about linking/ looping smaller UV units for smaller reef systems to increase exposure for smaller spaces? I imagine you could run flow through multiple small units before exiting output into your reef to minimize space and maximize exposure. Just a thought. I’ve been mulling the idea around for a bit for use on my chemical free quarantine
It’s definitely a good idea. We often link the UV Twist 57 watts together because they’re much easier to fit under a tank than something like a Pentair 150 watt which is 6 feet long. Cam
In this case it’s managed. We couldn’t leave the temporary UV there much longer as this is a commercial client of ours, the smaller UV will keep the whitespot at bay from here on. Cam
The good ones are usually expensive. I’d look out for a second hand UV twist 25 (or 57) watt. If you replace the tube on it it’ll be as good as new. Cam

@@neilphillips3193 but putting a fresh water fish into a saltwater tank isn’t the answer , all that is going to do is cause stress to the fish and reduce its immune system ,which in my book is a major factor to fight any disease.

Superb Cam. The use of the over sized uv steriliser makes absolute sense. Genius.
Awesome. I’m gonna ask my LFS if they will consider renting out large UV’s to those who need them.

Look at adding hydrogen peroxide dosing in parallel, PM if you want pointing in a direction for more info on it
