Thankyou for this, my late father had the joy of growing up with him and what you saw is what you got - 100% genuine and a really great presence on and off stage that never forgot or permanently left his roots.

@@MrDaiseymay I do have a funny story to share with you .Gerry Marsden was living at home with his parents. When Ferry song hit the charts at No 1,He was thrilled!
He was in his bedroom when he recieved the news. His mother called up the stairs to let him know that tea was ready.Gerry told her that he had hit the number one in the charts . She replied that was very nice but he had to get downstairs right away as his egg and chips were getting cold .lolll.RIP Gerry. X

I've met Gerry twice, once at the Club Fiesta in Stockton on tees where he was performing with his band 1984
I then met him at a Beatles convention,Adelphi hotel Liverpool a year later.
He was great, funny guy and very down to earth.

I only wished I'd asked him more when i had the chance.
I was surprised how small he was.
I did get a pic took with him,but thst got lost along the way as did the oic of me and Pete Best.
I also met and chatted to Johns uncle in the Cavern bar.
I did chat to Ray Coleman too that day.

Gerry was very friendly, just a normal bloke.
I just wish I still had that pic of me him and my mate Chris.
I met and chatted to Charles Lennon,John's uncle uncle, that was great.
Pete Best was promoting his book Beatles and tried to sell me a signed copy, wished I'd had the extra cash that day.

I’ve been waiting for the weekend to listen to this because I know I’ll be teary eyed at the end. His voice was so iconic and his music takes me back to parts of my childhood that still get me very emotional. Music is such a time capsule! I can’t still hear my cousin sing “fairy cross lamerzee”. Thank you for such a lovely tribute my friend!❤️

    • @grolfe3210

@@clivestraw1913 If you look at success or records sold or pop careers or influence then The Beatles as a group is the best from Liverpool.
But if you just say singing voice then Gerry is vastly better than any of the Beatles and anyone else from Liverpool that I can think of.
All of the Beatles had very mediocre singing voices. If you look at a peak song like Dont Let The Sun Catch You Crying and then listen to a Beatles song of that era - And I Love Her for example, you see how vastly better Gerry's vocal is.
None of the Beatles would even be in my top 10 Liverpudlian singers.

Gerry and the Pacemakers deserve more credit for the development of British Rock and Roll. Gerry admitted in an interview he could have done with having a rythmn guitarist in the band such as Lennon who Gerry counted more of a mate than McCartney.

I always liked Gerry and the Pacemakers. Gerry seemed like a genuinely good person. FYI Dingle is where Ringo grew up when he wasn't in hospital (look at that, you've got me typing British English-haha). He was performing up until the end. I saw a photo of Roy Orbison who was loved by everyone in rock & roll. Have you done Roy yet?

No haven't done Roy yet but have toyed with the idea though 🤔 I try to concentrate on musicians that don't have any or many videos on them but I have always loved Roy 🥰 Will no doubt need a box of tissues next to me doing his bio as I remember hearing some of the sadness and loss he suffered throughout his life 💔 And Gerry was such a likable person with a smile that could light up a room 😁 Always great to see you Chris 🥰

In 1963 I took part in a talent show as a pianist and came second.I was given a record token worth 10 Shillings. My nearest record shop was 2 miles away.So off I went on my metal scooter to get my record.I was told that I needed another penny as the record I was wanted was How do you do it and it was 10 shilling s and a penny.I went back 2 miles for the penny.I returned again to the shop with the correct amount, got my record and returned home again.Half way back my scooter broke in half and never even had a record player. So I gave it to my uncle. The last time I saw my uncle was 1994 and he didn't remember about the record.I suppose it was more important to me.Silly story but true.😅
