    Hi Zack, how about safety (aborting the lift) whilst doing a split jerk? Also, should one train one side split jerk, or should the focus be on both sides interchangeably?

    • @andrewmontgomery1763
      @andrewmontgomery1763 6 років тому +3

      Besides working doing accessory exercises like push presses (and other press/tricep dominant exercises) to aid strengthen your ability to lock out the weight in the jerk, you need to practice with controlling the amount of drive you're giving a certain weight in the jerk. For example, you don't need to give an earth-shattering dip for an 80% split jerk weight, certainly not as powerful a dip as you would need for a 95% split jerk weight. It seems obvious, but for me personally, you have to provide just enough drive to get the weight moving up and and to push yourself under to make a solid lockout. It takes practice. Plus, making sure you send the bar up and back slightly (to get into the ideal, safe, and most stable overhead position) will help make it feel "comfortable". I'm an amateur of course, but I've just recently made huge strides in the past year working on that same issue.

      First question, are you Chinese? If not, don't bother with squat jerk. Second/third question, are you dropping fast enough and do you have good torso and shoulder stability for power jerk? If not, stick with split jerk.

    I have been doing a weightlifting Rogen for nearly a month now and I have the goal of 100kg clean and jerk and 70kg snatch. With the clean and jerk I believe that I will be able to do the clean as I have gotten a lot stronger in my squats. However I am very worried about the jerk. I am not sure if my technique and strength overhead will allow for me to do this weight!
