I like how you give the “why” to techniques and tips in your videos- such as in the no foot no hook exercise. Makes a big difference for viewers trying to learn. Appreciate the vids.
honestly zack I love your channel so much, I'm 6'3 and all of your advice so damn helpful, I've started oly lifting at my local 24hr gym that has one platform with power bars but I'm making do, since starting my mobility overall has gotten so much better and I now overall feel super healthy. I currently snatch 55kg, clean 80kg and c&j 65kg and hope to get much better by the end of the year. I'm getting better very slowly but since there's no clubs or coaches in my area so i'm constantly watching your videos. Keep it up, this sport is amazing and I'm so glad to have found your videos.
Great video, thanks. I've been struggling with the snatch for almost 4 years now. Everything feels heavy, and I just couldn't figure out where I was losing my power. What you were talking about in the video makes sense.
Can you please make a video snatch and clean pulls. Many coaches especially in crossfit teach you to do pulls with straight arms and use you're traps to shrug. However, klokov and Aleksey say it is important to bend you're arms when pulling cause if not the bar projects away from you're body. Personally i believe Klokov and Aleksey but i believe it would make a very interesting video and would be keen to her you're opinion. Cheers
Dude. almost 4 years later and this video is still paying dividends. I just started on the WL path this past year but I've been watching your channel for years.
Take this how you will. But your on the informative level of juggernaut training systems or athlenx. 10/10 my man. You make the oly lifts seem not so impossible lol
Zack Telander right we’ll have to check this out. This channel is excellent by the way. Training to become an OL coach and doing it all solo makes me reliant on books and UA-cam prior to working in a gym / with clients. Any book recommendations? I have Greg Everett’s bible and Bob Takano’s at the minute. Thanks buddy
I have a feeling that bit at the end with The Doors playing and you screaming is meant to be a reference to something but have no idea what... See you in May at MK anyway!
There are a lot of weight lifting slang/terms used in your explanation which goes totally over my head. I didn't get anything between 5:15 and 6:15. I understand low hang snatch, but not terms like "open chest" or "long hands" or "long legs" or "vertical drive". Is there a place I can read up on these terms to understand what you are actually speaking about?
What advice would you give to someone that wants to learn Olympic Lifts but is involved in other sports so doesn't have the time to dedicate to a weightlifting style of program?
What do you think about the differences in techniques. Like Klokov that slides his feet more like the Chinese and other people who jump more. Which technique is best?
I certainly think having proper balance through the foot is important, but to play devils advocate many elite athletes have visible space in between the platform and their heels during the pull. Granted, this is due to focusing weight on the mid foot vs the full foot and pushing the knees outward. I just don't think it's the most important factor determining whether a lift is successful or unsuccessful. I do agree that that weight should be balanced the entire time so you shouldn't see rocking back onto the heels or the toes during the pull. As always great video and content.
Zach Racow I totally agree. It was brought to my attention that the Chinese get their shoulders back very early. However this comes with YEARS of work and efficiency. This absolutely is only one school of thought. Thanks for the comment!
Regarding Chinese, I'm pretty sure you've seen that one already, but just in case you didn't - www.sportivnypress.com/2015/can-there-be-such-a-thing-as-an-asian-pull/
Interesting article, but it is comparing heavyweight russian men to smaller lighter chinese women. I imagine the proportions, anthropometrics, flexibility/joint structure are all very different. With or without steroids, the "russian pull" looks more comfortable for me, a 94kg male.
Question. So when I deadlift I manage to keep my back straight. But when I'm going for a clean/snatch my back keeps losing tension and It rounds. (New to doing it from the ground). Is that from not staying over the bar? Or weak muscle areas?
Zack I’m pissed that I just found out you’re in college station... I lived there for 4 years going to A&M and had no idea. Next time I’m in college station I’ll visit your gym
What would you do to help your athlete get lumbar extension from the beginning of the pull? I struggle with the same issue, I can maintain lumbar extension/good balance from a low-hang position, but I still can't from the floor... Same with my deadlift.. Is it a posterior chain flexibility issue? Do I need to just keep on working on my low-hang position with some weight to make my soft tissues get used to this range of motion?
When performing this pull to the hips and then a low hang snatch, should we peform this up unitl a certain percentage when working up to our work sets?
Slight critique and perhaps this is an opinion rather than a fact, so don't attack me people, BUT bar contact is a good thing, and Aleshky (spell check) actually promotes it within his classes. I would say the culprit of BAD contact, is extending too early (hence getting behind the bar) and the contact forces the bar out of the lifter center/balance. Covering the bar as long as possible keeps the bar in the center of gravity, up to contact when the shoulders get behind and bar stays in center of gravity. So my critique would be not that heavy contact is bad, but using heavy contact properly. Thoughts?
Barret Strate precisely. I hope I explained just that. Aleksey teaches contact immediately as do I. I just happened to believe that when athletes become more intermediate they tend to “search” for contact too early. Proper contact is always the best! Thanks for the comment
No everyone who is not stupid agrees with you Bar contact happens when someone keeps the bar close to CoG but some people try to get to the point of contact ASAP instead of extending up
I definitely use too much of my hips as a crutch. I think (?). So why do I have so much trouble (as a beginner) dropping lower than a power snatch when I try to get under the bar? See my channel for my latest best snatch.
You're a good guy Zack
Don't say it, show it, buy the merch.
And stop stealing his avatar
Opa, me encontré un flaco in the wild
Most underrated channel i've seen
Like 85kg lifter Benjamin Hennequin (300 kg squat) told us once :
If you want to snatch and clean more weight, just get stronger legs !
It's not the most efficient lifter, but surely he lifted great weights
thats a good point
I like how you give the “why” to techniques and tips in your videos- such as in the no foot no hook exercise. Makes a big difference for viewers trying to learn. Appreciate the vids.
God damn it. This is the best channel there is. I Love you man.

"this sport is amazing" The perfect statement. Don't compare yourself to others, just compete and never stop working.
During the merch rant at the end you almost sound like Morty
Sean Donnelly Thought the same
Jeez Rick I-I don’t know if people will you know...buy the merch.
Didn't think I would find you here Sean
Great video, thanks. I've been struggling with the snatch for almost 4 years now. Everything feels heavy, and I just couldn't figure out where I was losing my power. What you were talking about in the video makes sense.
I believe in zack..he provides good content...i am grateful for ur videos

The Doors at the end... beautiful
Touch me in the final is art. You deserves more visuals
You good Man, your videos help grasp the lifts more better
Thank you, Zach-sensei. Will implement these drills. By far, staying over the bar is my biggest weakness; especially in the clean pull.
This is a great video. The stills and side-by-sides are super useful in identifying weaknesses of my own. Thanks!
I've been following Torokhiy for a while and I did not even wonder why he was doing this. This is great content, keep it up man!
The wait is over thank GoD!!! Music selection is always on point ZT your in Texas I'm in Houston?
yes he is (can confirm, I'm his gf)
The fact that he is in the Houston area is great, im in the freindswood area
Wow, this is totally my problem. The hip contact crutch. So thankful for this video!
A good guy you are Zack.
Love your vids Zach. Great stuff and your remarkably intelligent. The last part with selling shirts was hilarious. Keep up the awesomeness.
5:30 holy shit! I was totally there too that day. I was filming those lifts also from Torokhity. I was wondering who you guys were that were with him.
Beautifully said, low hang snatches are also useful for folks who "yank" the bar from the floor.
you are not just a good guy, you are the best guy Zack
Thanks again Zack for the knowledge bombs.
PS your a good guy
Your channel is awesome!
Dude. almost 4 years later and this video is still paying dividends. I just started on the WL path this past year but I've been watching your channel for years.
Thank you Zack, I am starting out and you have taught me a lot.
You are a good guy Zack
information that is priceless!
Take this how you will. But your on the informative level of juggernaut training systems or athlenx.
10/10 my man. You make the oly lifts seem not so impossible lol
Dude. I freakin love you.
notable complimentary exercise - bar muscle up with wide (snatch like) grip
Love that low hang. Definitely going to utilize more.
Zack!another great video! You remind me of Jeff nippard but for weightlifting! Do you think you could do a video about jumping forward in the snatch?
This is awesome content Zack. Seriously useful. I will consider your mercy if you ship to the UK and it’s snug
we do ship international! all of our t-shirts are snug as a bug in a rug.
Zack Telander right we’ll have to check this out. This channel is excellent by the way. That last one looked really good to me!
Really love these videos; Loved the ending! BY THE WAY that website link does work.
good shit zack!!
Where was this videos 10 years ago haha - love the Doors at the end ;)
thanks for this awesome vid man!
Thanks bro you have a nack for coaching
The last "I NEEEED IIIIIT" is Awesome xD. It made me wanna purchase anything xD
Amazing lifter with awesome content
Great video!
I saw the strength agenda in there, it's an awesome pad
The Doors!
I don't see Zack's "not tight lower back" tho. Can anyone guide me as to what to look for?
I have a feeling that bit at the end with The Doors playing and you screaming is meant to be a reference to something but have no idea what...
See you in May at MK anyway!
Thank you.
what is the song in the background during the intro?
Came over after your TLM collab

Does Eleiko and Alexi ever had a booth in the Arnold Classic ?
4:12, yes, not because hes hovering the weight over the floor but because he got a much better tecnique in 2s
amazing video!!!
spectacular!! ...very good
What advice would you give to someone that wants to learn Olympic Lifts but is involved in other sports so doesn't have the time to dedicate to a weightlifting style of program?
Zack Telehander. Almost as good as catalyst atlethics
Is that clean n jerk video at Texas strength systems in San Antonio?
Well said
Could you talk about how to find your optimal feet position at the start of the snatch, clean, and jerk?
What do you think about the differences in techniques. Like Klokov that slides his feet more like the Chinese and other people who jump more. Which technique is best?
Keep it up bro!

Hey Zack, question: where do you hit the bar in the snatch? I see people hitting it below/on the man parts and people who hit it above.
good tips!!!
Question. So when I deadlift I manage to keep my back straight. But when I'm going for a clean/snatch my back keeps losing tension and It rounds. (New to doing it from the ground). Is that from not staying over the bar? Or weak muscle areas?
for the clean you suggest the low hang clean and no hook no feet clean or other exercises?
Love it!
Hey zack, could you give some insight in how you should programma for olly taining 2 times a day? Didn't saw anyone making a video about it yet.
Zack I’m pissed that I just found out you’re in college station... I lived there for 4 years going to A&M and had no idea. Next time I’m in college station I’ll visit your gym
@zack Telander do you happen to teach at a gym? I’d like to attend a seminar.
where can you find a gym where you can drop the weights like that?
Could I send you some videos of my snatch I’m trying to learn and could use the tips

Zack, please provide the name of the song used. Thanks

Had to throw in the PR clean and jerk in the middle of that
Collin Phillips ;)
How has the progress been in the russian squat program? Hasnt it been 6 weeks?
Any tips for pulling under in the snatch?
Do you have a size guide for the merch?
Michiel Corryn they are unisex (I think that means men sizes?) and they are a polyester blend (good for training).
Zack Telander What size do you wear in the shirts? That will give an idea.
XL

Enter the illusive pubic bone bruise lol
That merch rant 😂
Ay, can you please come visit Germany ? Really wanna meet/train with you once ^^
the website doesnt work?

chill with the jump cuts man
GOOD VID
Zack, are you still on the Russian Squat Program?
Imran Shah finished that one up before my comp. PRs all around!
Zack Telander 👏👏👏
Did your training max increase, and by how much?
I tied my PR in the squat but had 1kg prs in competition for both lifts. Seems small but I have been training for so long it felt good!
what is yur Squat max?
Will you mailed a T-shirt to Mexico?
The Doors!!!!!
"A video of Alexei and Sergej and I"
ZACK, KEEP THE GRAMMAR PRESSURE EVEN
Zack is BAE 😍
I love Valentin.

Loled at the end
