There are two South Island trains being the TranzAlpine and the Coastal Pacific train that operates between Christchurch and Picton at the top of the South Island connecting with the Interislander ferry from to Piton to Wellington in the North Island. There is the one North Island train called the Northern Explorer that travels between the Wellington and Auckland. Both the Coastal Pacific and Northern Explorer trains have the same carriages but currently, these trains don't offer the Scenic Plus travel product.

Yep, thats correct. However the coastal Pacific doesn't currently operate during the winter months making the Tranzalpine the only scheduled rail service in the South island.
