For decades, the #ToyotaCorolla has satisfied a lot of consumers looking for an affordable and reliable commuter cars. While that has always been a strength of the Corolla, when Toyota gave it a full redesign last year, they wanted to add some fun to the lineup which had been absent for the last two decades. The 2021 #CorollaApex is designed to be that first step, with a retuned suspension, sport exhaust system, and unique style cues, it certainly looks like a more enthusiast Corolla versus even the SE and XSE trims. However, with no engine upgrades, those of you hoping for a Civic Si or VW GTI fighter, will be disappointed in the lack of performance.

Putting the Camry 2.5 4 cylinder with 200+ hp with a bit more tq would have been nice. Sure it wouldn't have the low end tq that most of the other turbo powered cars would have. But its a decent power bump over the outgoing 2.0l 4 cylinder.

I have been thinking. I think it would be smart of Toyota starting Trying to do with what Hyandai and Honda are doing with the Accord amd the Sonata. Like I like the looks of the Corolla. And the Camry except to horrific fake vents that you can get fog lights. But the Accord and Sonota look good yet are dont really look sporty. I think Toyota should try the regal look or something in their sedan style language. Cause the of they want to try to make their cars sporty than they need to be. I am glad they dont throw turbos in them though like honda has done with the accord as turbos are standard with CVTs and the Civic has turbos on the higher trims. I hate turbos. Ruin the reliability. But a more sleek look Mazda has would fit the cars based on what Toyota tries to do

Great video! A little disappointed in the Corolla Apex, but as the name implies, it's more handling focused. Fingers crossed on the Corolla GR. Powerwise what the Corolla will have and what Toyota claims it will have remains to be seen. I can picture them detuning the GR engine 20 or so horsepower and giving it an automatic from the Camry or a CVT as an option. I'm a huge Toyota fan, but that type of spec wouldn't surprise me. Toyota's conservative approach to cars has been a big reason for their stellar reliability, but that conservative approach to reliability makes me think the GR will be a little disappointing. First of all you got to hear the Apex from the outside the exhaust does sound pretty good and different than the regular se and xse BUT LET ME SAY THIS.....
sorry for the long comment but I hope this motivates anyone with one of these Corollas SE XSE OR APEX
This is coming from somebody who's built tons of Hondas and has a full blown '95 Civic Coupe track car with a built k24 block and K20 head The only Corolla prior to this I ever liked was the '05 to '06 Corolla XRS with the 2ZZ engine
You can make them look really good honestly I mean my uncle picked up one of these he got a 2020 SE model really wanted an apex could not find one so we got the SE instead but you can get pretty much everything to make it look like an apex which is the same side skirts he has here in the video and then the Apex style front lip and rear lip
BUT LET ME SAY THIS.... After my uncle put on a set of coilovers or lowering springs I don't remember which one he went with IT COMPLETELY CHANGE THE LOOK OF THE CAR and those are very subtle things but basically turning it into the Apex on the outside gave it way more flair
AND FOR PERFORMANCE...... The first mod we did was a K&n short ram intake but here's the thing unlike all the other short ram intakes out there the K&n actually has a heat shield so that it doesn't get major heat soak and suck up hot-air it also has a spot in the heat shield where you can hook up the stock air duct that runs down to the front grill to still feed that intake cold air .. AND LET ME TELL YOU.. that was his first mod and it made it sound WAY WAY WAY MORE AGGRESSIVE!!!!!!!! Then was surprised how much better it made the car breathe
Then.... Next we ended up going with a custom 2.5-in catback exhaust made because the borla sounds good but is really expensive over $1,000 got a really nice custom 2.5-in cat back exhaust made and then just chose the style muffler we wanted and it has a nice deep tone just like the one in the video
And lastly we went with a header for it which eliminates the catalytic converters and that made a huge bump in performance and then got it Dyno tuned to those mods
That car is so much more fun and quick even when it just had an intake but after intake headers exhaust and a tune that thing is keeping up with my mom's 2012 Civic SI with a K series with similar mods and even My Mitsubishi lancer ralliart with full bolt ones and tune
Not quite quick enough to keep up with my track car that's 95 Civic Coupe with a k-24 block and K20 head naturally aspirated all motor with full bolt-ons but
I will say the car sounds good it looks good it's much much quicker than it was it's still reliable because it's all motor no turbo no nitrous no super charger and it's still reliable
And he will beat a GR86 stock with the mods he has then he has kept up with one at intake and exhaust from a roll
Of course the six-speed manual is the way to go but I will say even the CVT automatic Corollas if you put them in sport mode turn the traction control off and put it in manual shift mode since they have a 10 speed transmission they are actually slightly quicker than the six-speed manuals it's probably the only Corolla I have ever liked or had fun riding in or driving
Since the 2005 to 2006 Corolla XRS with the 2zZ engine So if you're having doubts about one of these go for it I think it's doing something different you'll really like it they look good they can decently quick and you'll have fun with it and who cares what the haters say

@@johnholst you have a point there however Europeans don't drive as much as Americans do and therefore their tiny turbo engine cars last longer because of that. That's why Hyundai made sure most of the 2021 Elantras have naturally aspirated engines. Only the N line has a turbo.

      @johnholst 3 роки тому

@@braetonwilson4296 Yes, you're certainly right about that. Not as many miles to drive in Europe. So, then maybe it's an issue of durability rather than strain? Makes me think of the truck wars in the US. Ford and its turbocharged engines vs. Chevy's large displacement NA engines.

It has so much potential, but is disappointing to me. I do think this would make a good first car for high school student cause it looks sporty and has a good manual transmission to learn on...I wish more young people could learn how to drive a manual so the manual transmission doesn't die out completely-I won't by anything except a manual. But if they put a turbo charger on that same engine and beefed up the transmission with short throw shifter that would be something I would like to drive! I think they should make the interior sportier as that looks like a cheap rental car lol. I think just changing the colors and adding unique textures or aluminum trim. I love the exterior though. But I would choose a Forte GT or Civic Si (too over styled for me), you just can't beat Kia's warranty and their reliability is amazing.

Back seat area could use some creature comfort upgrades as standard, with at least charging ports. Blind spot monitoring should be standard on ALL vehicles. I do like to see editions like the Apex because i think eventually we will see a version that we can all be happy with. I am not a hatchback fan and prefer the sedan. The only things I would like to see before I sign on the dotted line are more HP in the manual and please get rid of that god awful looking radio. It really brings down the interior.
