Perfect ending, 9.9/10. I believe this is a "bridge the gap" car. Something newer is coming and Toyota wants to lead up to that moment with an "idea" of 'sporty' Corolla. This Apex ed is that idea. It uses current Corolla parts in an effort to boost sales of the name prior to the release of the next "big" Corolla". Personally, they (Toyota) need to develop the hatch more and give N.A. a Japanese "Focus SVT" for the 2020s.

Back a number of years ago, in 2014 maybe, I bought a 2000 Corolla for $1200 certified from my mechanic who I trusted with my life. This made me wonder what he was up to. I asked him if I was getting a vehicle that was junk. "Nope", was his reply. "You see, this is a standard and NO one knows how to drive a standard so this courtesy car just sits here". I bought it and loved it. I had it for three years and drove it like I hated it. I would dump the clutch at 5,000 and get 50 feet of rubber (there's a video floating around somewhere if you'd like to see it) and even get a chirp out of the tires into second. It was a riot!!! I lived in the hills around Sault Ste. Marie and if I drove it like a hybrid (where I shut the engine down once I'd engaged the clutch), I got over 50 MPG. For the first four tankfuls I put in, I got a smidgen over 55 ... each one.

I'm happy there's an other throttle house channel... But I'll admit here I was fooled, I wanted an intro sketch. Sometimes I don't care about the car just want the good fun. Like the last BMW intros made me laugh so hard.
Bought one of these earlier this year (2024). Needed a car now, and wanted a small, fuel efficient, low milage car. In my area, this was it. Couldnt find any other Corolla/Mazda3/Civic/Impreza that wasnt high milage, and no new ones. The stock tires dont do well in heavy rain, I will definitely need snow tires come winter (southern Michigan). Ride is harsh. But I am roughly averaging mid to high 40 mpg in my 15 mile drive to work. Much better than the car I was previously driving, which wasnt bad itself.
I know the Civic Si has rev hang and a worse infotainment system than a dishwasher, but I don't think I could stomach an Apex Corolla over the Si. It's a great car to drive and has some degree of performance credentials. Kinda.
How's the clutch engagement on the Corolla nowadays? I used to have a Matrix manual and the clutch was so high, it was super frustrating and uncomfortable. I tried the last generation Corolla and it was the same thing. My dad's 2000 Corolla was perfectly fine, so hope they went back to the old days of normal clutch engagement...
This is the fastest granny driving grocery getter in history! Nanna will be hitting those apex's around the local Costco curbing coming to a Florida parking lot near you this summer...
I would buy this car if it wasn't quite so expensive. It reminds me in a way of my 2013 Special Edition which also didn't get any engine upgrades but is way more fun to drive than the base Corolla if you don't mind having your spine jarred by the harsh ride.
5:40 yea.. for whatever reason you can't turn off traction control unless the car is at a complete stop. That's one of the weird things I don't like about my hatch
A few months ago I test drove a manual corolla and I absolutely hated the feel of the clutch and the shifter. The clutch and shifter felt so light that it felt like a toy with no precision at all. I ended up getting a mini cooper.

1:17 they leaned into it in 2015. The color from factory on my Corolla S is called “Slate”
This car reminds me of my old dodge neon I used to have. It was the SXT with some black wheels and 'sporty' falken tire and even had the little spoiler. I thought it was so athletic and cool. Then I bought an FR-S and realized I was stupid. This car is that dodge neon. It looks cool and seems sporty to the non-enthusiast who has no clue what sporty is.
Everyday Driver guys Paul and Todd already do a segment on their podcast called Track, Daily, Crush. Similar to what you were getting at towards the end with the Mazda 3, Civic and Corolla. Great video keep it up!
I'm happy there's an other throttle house channel... But I'll admit here I was fooled, I wanted an intro sketch. Sometimes I don't care about the car just want the good fun. Like the last BMW intros made me laugh so hard.
Awesome video lol, can't wait for more.
Much better than the car I was previously driving, which wasnt bad itself.
my 2005 corolla is still strong and no end in sight.. well only cluster light that died but easily replaceable.
Best part is you two have always different point of view... Content👌
I know the Civic Si has rev hang and a worse infotainment system than a dishwasher, but I don't think I could stomach an Apex Corolla over the Si. It's a great car to drive and has some degree of performance credentials. Kinda.
The Si is just an overall much better car. The infotainment isn’t a big deal with carplay/android auto, and the rev hang is easily tuned out.
The limited slip differential alone in the civic is a massive upgrade (makes a huge difference on any 2wd car) when you actually drive hard.
the TH channel for the serfs.
Just get the SE with a manual. Great price, looks decent and still fun!
'We don't have the ending'. Proceed to end the show. The best ending ever.
I like the look. But I’m tired of Car companies putting out cool trims that are just aero kits. Need to boost power to match the look
I’m secretly hoping that this is their “CSL” before the GR Corolla comes out ;)
well the AE86 corolla have "APEX" version too, i guess new gen toyota team bringing back those trim levels + some sporty models
I can't wait to get a Corolla Apex of my own :)
A few months ago I test drove a manual corolla and I absolutely hated the feel of the clutch and the shifter. The clutch and shifter felt so light that it felt like a toy with no precision at all. I ended up getting a mini cooper.
